HS Day 2 - 7/8 Day 1

WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Alpine Ski Team:  Due to the mild weather, Mt. St. Marie will not be able to accommodate us for our ski team training day on Dec. 17. We will try to re-schedule. Stay tuned. (AB Dec. 17)

There will be a bake sale for both lunches Friday, December 11th, 2015 in front of the cafeteria to support the Outdoor Club. Make sure to bring some money and come and enjoy delicious treats. (MF Dec. 11)

Christmas Blessing Collection 2015. It's that wonderful time of the year when our homerooms are collecting money for food gift cards so we can distribute them to local families the Christmas. Homerooms should set a goal, and maybe even enter into a competition with another class to encourage some generosity this time of the year. Our collection finishes on Dec 16th. #mttitanpride. Hour of Code: The Learning Commons will be hosting Hour of Code participants Monday afternoon, all day Wednesday and all day Friday this week.  Please note that most of our mobile devices will be used for the workshops and will not be available for sign-out by students during these times.  Please plan accordingly.  We will also be closed for both lunches on Wednesday and 7/8 Lunch on Friday. The OCSB Choirs will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 14th at 7:30 PM at St. Basil’s Church (Maitland at the 417).  The concert, “A Light Has Come” features the OCSB Children’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Boys Choir and guests.  Tickets are $15 at the door or $25, the Choir’s 25th  Anniversary fundraiser ticket price.  Choristers are students from 36 schools across the Board. Of the 116 students in the choir, 18 attend schools in the Mother Teresa Family of Schools. (KW Dec. 14)

7-8 School Play: Auditions for the play will now take place in the new year, following the Christmas Break. Please listen for announcements regarding this when we return. Thank you to all those who have signed up. Looking forward to watching your auditions. (JB Dec. 18)

Debate Club: High school students are invited to attend any or all of the following Debate Club dates.  All meetings are until 4:15 and will take place in Rm. 138 after school.

We need a minimum of four debaters to attend each meeting.  The mock debates are a great way to develop thinking and oral skills.  Plus, it's a lot of fun. November 2 resolution: This House would abolish grades and adopt a pass or fail educational system. (JS Dec. 14)

The STUDENT SERVICES WEBSITE at ss.mths.ca is set up as an information tool, including information about: Community Service Hours Opportunities, Courses, Careers, Graduation, Scholarships, etc.

Any grade 12 student applying for a Prestigious Award (scholarship) at a university for next year is required to submit their application to Student Services a minimum of 1 week before the due date. Please do not request letters of reference from a teacher until you have submitted your application to Student Services and spoken to your Guidance Counsellor. (JH Dec. 18)

Christmas Blessing Collection 2015. It's that wonderful time of the year when our homerooms are collecting money for food gift cards so we can distribute them to local families the Christmas. Homerooms should set a goal, and maybe even enter into a competition with another class to encourage some generosity this time of the year. Our collection finishes on Dec 16th. #mttitanpride. LF Volunteers for the Manotick Family Christmas Party on Saturday, December 5th, 2015.  We need students from 1pm to 4:30pm to help with the 10 activity stations set up in the basement of the Manotick United Church.  It's a fun afternoon.  Please contact Donna Ouellette or Laurel Slattery at 613-692-4625 (Rideau Valley Child Care Centre). Christmas Blessing Collection 2015. It's that wonderful time of the year when our homerooms are collecting money for food gift cards so we can distribute them to local families the Christmas. Homerooms should set a goal, and maybe even enter into a competition with another class to encourage some generosity this time of the year. Our collection finishes on Dec 16th. #mttitanpride. Students with overdue books and fines are asked to go to the Learning Commons after morning announcements. (MP Dec. 4)

The OCSB Choirs will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 14th at 7:30 PM at St. Basil’s Church (Maitland at the 417).  The concert, “A Light Has Come” features the OCSB Children’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Boys Choir and guests.  Tickets are $15 at the door or $25, the Choir’s 25th  Anniversary fundraiser ticket price.  Choristers are students from 36 schools across the Board. Of the 116 students in the choir, 18 attend schools in the Mother Teresa Family of Schools. (KW Dec. 14)

Alpine Ski Team: Please pick up a permission form outside room 201.  Our first practice will be after school in the weight room on Wednesday November 24th and then December 2nd and December 9th. (AB Dec. 9)

The Mayor's 15th Annual Christmas Celebration taking place at Ottawa City Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5thth, 2015. Festivities will include skating on the Sens Rink of Dreams, horse-drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows.  Indoors, children can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and make a craft in Santa’s workshop.  There will also be live entertainment in Andrew Haydon Hall.

We are asking volunteers to arrive no than 12:30 p.m. at the Festival Control Boardroom (located on the 1st floor of City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) to sign-in, get a briefing on how the event will unfold, have a bite to eat and get into position.  A light lunch will be provided to volunteers before the event – a vegetarian option will be available. Please be prepared to work until approximately 7:30 p.m. given that we will need help after the event to assist with clean up. We are asking volunteers to arrive no than 12:30 p.m. at the Festival Control Boardroom (located on the 1st floor of City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) to sign-in, get a briefing on how the event will unfold, have a bite to eat and get into position.  A light lunch will be provided to volunteers before the event – a vegetarian option will be available. Please be prepared to work until approximately 7:30 p.m. given that we will need help after the event to assist with clean up.
