Welcome back! We hope your holidays were restful and spent with family and friends.

Are you interested in participating in The Enrichment Mini-Courses Program this year May 6-10th?  This opportunity is for students in gr 8 -11.  The courses take place at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, La Cite and Saint Paul's University Mon- Fri from 9 am - 3pm.  Students are responsible for their own transportation.  Courses are offered in a variety of disciplines including technology, psychology, engineering, journalism, music and law. If this opportunity interests you please pop by Rm 130 to pick up an application.  Forms are due - January 9th 2019.  We have a limited number of spots and completed applications will be chosen by a lottery system. (NC Jan. 9)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7/8 Futsal: Any girls interested in trying out for the GIRLS 7/8 Futsal team there will be ONE try out on Wednesday, January 9th in the Wood Floor Gym. Please see Ms. Mandia if you cannot attend the tryout. The two other practices will be January 17th and 23rd.  

7/8 Yoga: yoga continues in the Dance Room on Tuesdays at lunch time. New students are always welcome. Below is the schedule for this month; 
Tuesday Dec. 11th - Christmas Yoga (our last class before the break)
Tuesday Jan. 8th - Yoga returns every Tuesday.

LF Volunteers: Winterman Marathon – Saturday/Sunday February 16/17, 2019 (Canada War Museum)  https://somersault.ca/winterman-run/ Saturday would be from 9 am – 3 pm Indoor – Registration Outside – Site Set Up
Sunday would be from 6:30 am – 2 pm or 3 pm (or whatever time you can spare) Indoor – registration *come prepared to rotate outside positions after 8:30 am Outside (rotating) – Course Marshals, Aid Stations, Finish Line
Lunch is NOT provided (There is a volunteer room nearby for lunch and breaks, as well as the Museum Cafeteria).  We encourage volunteers to bring food/drink to get them through their time with us or purchase food at the Museum Cafeteria.

Calling all Artists: This year's applications forms for Young at Art are now available. Visual artists between 12 to 20 years of age are eligible to enter. Submitted artwork enters a jury process that determines which pieces will be exhibited in the City of Ottawa's community galleries. Attention Writers and Illustrators! MASC is pleased to present “Your Story: MASC’s Teen Authors and Illustrators’ Festival” on Friday February 8th, to be held at Confederation Learning Centre, 1645 Woodroffe Avenue in Ottawa.  Students in grades 8 through 12 with a special interest in writing and illustration are invited to register for one full day of workshops led by a stellar lineup of professional artists. The Deadline for registration is January 21, 2019.  Please visit the MASC website for further information about the conference, including bios of this year’s presenters as well as photos and testimonials from last years conference. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LF Volunteers: The Knights of Columbus (KoC) at St. Patrick's Church, Fallowfield. The KoC will be holding a New Years Eve event on Monday, December 31st, 2018 at St. Patrick's Church Community Hall. Looking for 4-6 student volunteers who would be willing to work at the event.  Duties would include hall set-up, assistance serving the meal (tentatively to be buffet style), washing dishes, hall clean-up and any other task as assigned.  Tentative time frame for the event is 6:30pm - 12:30am.  Set-up will likely occur earlier in the afternoon, time to be determined.

Makerspace Club: Our Makerspace club is so popular, we need to divide the club into two different groups. The first group will now meet on Mondays at lunch and will include students from 7-01 - 7-05. Our Tuesday group will include students from 7-06 - 7-10 and all students from grade 8.
