Volunteer Hours Opportunity: The Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is a unique 12-hour community event that takes place overnight on June 8–9 at the Nepean Sportsplex. It is a fun and uplifting event that is filled with energy. Organizers are looking for oodles of volunteers that are interested in taking 4 or more hours to volunteer during the night. Preferably a Grade 11 or Grade 12 student who can take child to park to play...no studying involved. Family looking for someone on Saturday afternoons (3 hours) or Sunday afternoons (3 hours). Barrhaven Community CHEO Family Fun Day: Everyone is invited to help support our Children's Hospital of Easter Ontario Family Fun Day hosted at Ross' Independent Grocer in Barrhaven, 3777 Strandherd on Sunday, June 3rd, 2007.

This will be the fifth annual "Family Fun CHEO Day" hosted at Ross' Independent Grocer. This year, the festival has expanded with a new twist by partnering with the first ever Barrhaven Multicultural Festival. The combined festival is a celebration of "Our Kids, Our Culture, Our CHEO". There will be food, games, music, fashion shows & traditional dances with beautiful dresses and colors. Performances will be performed by the Chinese Children's Choir, East Indian, Columbian, Scottish, Irish, Muslim and Tamil Dance groups. There will be midway games for kids to ride and many games displays of reptiles and mad science. There will also be a number of interactive multicultural exhibits for kids to experience unique crafts and activities from different countries. All proceeds raised from this event will go to CHEO as part of the weekend CHEO telethon.

Barrhaven has grown rapidly in population over the past 8 years and so has the diversity within our community. This festival is an opportunity to celebrate our sense of community and help create awareness and information about the diverse backgrounds that make up our community while raising funds to support a critical resource in our community - CHEO.

Live It Up: Students who volunteered to help with the carnival activities are asked to see Mrs. Hopkins in room 103 at the beginning of lunch today for an important update.

Summer School Co-op: Students are able to sign up for a one credit co-op program which will take place during summer school (July 3 to July 25). The course consists of two parts: 1. the classroom component during the first two days and two integration days in July and 2. supervised learning and training in the community for full days where they will apply the knowledge and skills learned in a related course. There are some skilled trade apprenticeship placements as well. Friday, June 1 is the last day to register. More info and a registration form can be picked up in Student Services.

Carnival tickets will only be sold the afternoon of the Carnival at a price of $1 for 4 tickets. Please note that grade 7/8 students are NOT permitted to attend the high school dance. 7/8 Duathlon Participants: 1. Continue to bring in your permission forms. 2. Mandatory meeting on Monday after school to go over the route and finanlize teams. You MUST see Ms. McKenna on Monday at lunch if you cannot make it to the meeting after school. 3. Bike inspection: drop bicycles off to Mr. Nearing at the auto-shop Monday or Tuesday.

Skills Canada Bilingual Summer Camp: In the summer of 2007, Skills Canada – Ontario, working in partnership with various organizations across the province will be hosting for a seventh season, ‘Skills Work® For Youth,’ Employability Skills Camp for students entering Grades 7 or 8. These one week "Skills Work!® for Youth" Employability Skills Summer Camps run across Ontario throughout July and August from Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30 pm. Cost is $150.00 per week per participant. Volunteers Needed: From June 1 to 3 thousands of women and men will unite for one weekend and walk 60 kilometres through Ottawa in a bold display of courage and commitment. This history-making event is called The Weekend to End Breast Cancer. The money raised in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer will benefit The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. We are still looking for plenty of Volunteers to take part in this amazing weekend. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer needs people like you for a couple of hours or a whole day to help with:

We will meet in the parking lot of the Barrhaven United Church on Jockvale Rd. (near the railway tracks) at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. This should take 2 hours maximum. We supply gloves and trash bags. Students should dress for the weather conditions. Those interested can just show up on Saturday.

With the forecast calling for beautiful weather and the Senators having an evening off, why not come out to the Mother Teresa Education Week Open House on Thursday, May 3. There are lots of activities and displays to see. Come for dinner, BBQ opens at 5:00 p.m. and the action continues in and around the school until 7:30 p.m.

7/8 Duathlon Information: There is an mandatory meeting for all those who have signed up for the Mother Teresa Duathlon TODAY at the beginning of lunch (12:41 P.M.) in room 318.
