7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Learning Commons' clubs have begun, but new members are always welcome.  The Makerspace and Red Maple books clubs start at the beginning of the lunch period and students are asked to bring their lunches with them.
  • The Makerspace club is a fun club that includes crafts, Lego, knitting and so much more. This club will meet Tuesdays for Grade 7s and Thursdays for Grade 8s. 
  • Our Red Maple book club will meet every Friday at lunch. This year's club will be reading up to 10 Canadian Fiction selections selected specifically for students in grades 7 and 8. The titles have been announced and will be discussed at this week's meeting. 
The Learning Commons lunch passes: Please stop at the Learning Commons' main desk, before 8:35am, and sign out your pass for the day.

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Grade 11 & 12 Biology Competition - all students participating in the Biology Competition on Thurs April 26th are asked to attend a meeting at lunch on Wed. April 3rd in room 202. Please bring your lunches with you. If you cannot attend, please see Ms. Soprovich in room 202 in the afternoon. (SS April 4)
SMT Leadership Camp 2018: Calling all grade 11 students interested in applying to become a leader at the SMT Leadership Camp in September 2018.  Please attend a lunch time meeting in the Career Centre on Friday, April 6th.  Interested students should have past leadership camp experience.  Please see Mrs. Byrne in Student Services if you are unable to attend the meeting. (EB April 6)
High School Girls’ Touch Football Tryouts: There is a sign-up sheet posted outside room 119 for any high school girls interested in trying out for the touch football team. The first three tryout sessions will be after school on Wednesday, April 4th (caf gym), Wednesday, April 11th and Friday, April 13th. (AC April 13)
Grades 9 to 11 Students interested in playing Football: There will be a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, April 4 at the beginning of high school lunch in room 119 for students in grades 9 to 11 who are interested in playing tackle football next year. (AC April 4)

Referees Needed for Elementary Basketball Tournaments- any experienced high school players who are interested in helping with the Elementary Basketball Tournaments at St. Andrews Elementary on Wednesday, April 11th (girls) or Wednesday, April 18th (boys) are asked to see Mr. Liska for more information. (JL April 18)

Any high school student interested in timekeeping the 7/8 Royal/Titan Hockey Classic in Barrhaven March 27th, 28th, 29th and April 3rd and 4th, please see Mr. Helman or Mr. Quinn.  Tournament games are between 8:30am and 3pm.  Six volunteers are needed for each date.  Pizza lunch is included on each day.  Students can volunteer for 1 day or multiple days.  Tournament games will either take place at Minto Recreation Complex or Walter Baker Sports Complex depending on the date chosen. OCSB Summer School - July 4 to July 25, 2018
Registration is from April 10 to June 27. Final registration date is Thursday, June 28th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at St. Nicholas Adult High School (West Campus) 893 Admiral Avenue, Ottawa.  You can download the registration form at conted.ocsb.ca.  Meet with your counsellor in Student Services.  Student, parent and guidance counsellor signatures are required on the registration form.  Summer school schedule will not be modified to accommodate personal summer plans. Final exams are compulsory and MUST be written on Tuesday, July 24th. Summer School locations are Holy Trinity Catholic HS, Immaculata HS, St. Pius X HS.  St. Matthew HS (online courses only)

Shifts are as short as 3 hours long and are in locations across the city.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students to accumulate volunteer hours.  The volunteer works with the Festival Staff at the onsite box-office, which is usually open from 8:45am – 4:00pm every day of the Festival. Because of the nature of this job, we appreciate volunteers who can work for several days. The box office generally needs 4 – 6 volunteers each day. Volunteer Duties include: Taking orders and filling out our forms, Selling tickets, Tracking sales, Checking and confirming arrival lists for school groups, Schlepping – carrying items to/from the office and storage trailer, Other tasks as assigned by the box-office manager

7/8 Waterloo Math Contest:  Reminder to all 7/8 students who are interested in competing in the Waterloo Math contest. You need to sign up with Mr. Shannon in room 235 and pay the $4 registration fee by Thursday, March 29th. The contest date will be in mid-May. (KS March 30)
