TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY: Wednesday November 4 is Take Our Kids to Work Day. This is a mandatory activity that all grade 9 students are to complete as a part of their Grade 9 curriculum. We ask that parents or guardians arrange for their son or daughter to accompany them to work on that day or to accompany a relative, friend or community host. Grade 9 classes will not be held on that day and the students should not come to school, as there will not be supervision for Grade 9 students. This day helps students to appreciate essential workplace skills and helps to develop an appreciation for the importance of staying in school and getting a high school diploma. GIS DAY AT CARLETON UNIVERSITY: Attention any grade 10 or 11 student interested in the exciting field of GIS. If you are interested in using GPS units, Google Earth and making maps, this is for you. We are offering a course next year in GEOMATICS which explores all of these things. It is open to any student who will be in grade 11 or 12 next year (10-11 this year). If you are interested in this course, you may want to come to Carleton University on November 28 to explore GIS Day.... See Mr. McCloskey in room 300 if you are interested. (MM –Nov 6)

2010 WSIB STUDENT VIDEO CONTEST: Are you interested in making a video and having a chance to win money for it? Cash prizes for first, second and third place winners are awarded with matching monetary funds awarded to your school. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) in partnership with the Ministry of Education invite Ontario high school students to participate in the 2010 WSIB Student Video Contest. The Road to Zero is the WSIB's strategic plan for 2008 to 2012. For more information, check out the poster in Student Services and on the Student Services Info Board in the atrium. GRAD PHOTOS: Come sign up and pick up the information sheet about grad photos, in Student Services. You must bring your sitting fee of $30.00 at the time of your appointment. Appointments will be set up between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with each appointment taking no longer than 15 minutes. Gowns, caps and flowers are provided by Edge Imaging. You are encouraged to bring a set of casual clothes, a sport uniform, or musical instrument to reflect your personality or interests. Please note that you MUST have your picture taken for yearbook purposes - both for the photo, and if you would like to submit a grad write-up for the yearbook (submissions will not be accepted if there is no photo) - even if you don't plan on ordering pictures. HOUSE OF COMMONS PAGE PROGRAM FOR GRADUATES: A Page plays a key role in the communications network on Parliament Hill. They are actively involved in the House of Commons. It is a one year contract, where you will earn over $12,600, working a minimum of 15 hours per week on the hill. Criteria: must be a Canadian Citizen fluent in both languages, have an overall average of 80%, attending first year at either Carleton University or University of Ottawa in 2010. GRADUATING STUDENTS/COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: A new policy surrounding Community Service Hours has been adopted at Mother Teresa High School. All graduating students must have completed their forty hours of community service by the date of the school prom if they intend to attend their graduation dance. This comes about as a result of the practice of some students who left their Community Service Hours to the last month of school and were not able to graduate in June. We are encouraging all our graduating students to submit their hours by May 14th, 2010. (NM –Nov 6)

Period 1 - Each Grade 7/8 homeroom will send two representatives to the Atrium for a Pumpkin Carving Competition. The best pumpkin will win FREE admission to the next school dance for all members of that homeroom!
Period 4 - Return to your homeroom for a Door Decorating Challenge! Bring in or create Halloween decorations to design your homeroom door. The spookiest door will receive a PIZZA lunch for all members of that homeroom!
Period 5 & 6 - Halloween Dance & Costume Contest - Dress up in your Halloween costume for a chance to win the costume contest! Prizes will be awarded for best costume (top male & top female) so dig into that tickle trunk!

Come and see your friends perform an act or walk in the fashion show, proudly displaying their heritage. The buyout show will occur on Thursday, October 29th during Period 1 for grades 7, 8, 9 and Period 2 for grades 10, 11, 12. So bring your $2 to either your homeroom (7,8,9) or period two (10,11,12) teacher by Thursday, October 29th and join in the celebration! (NR –Oct 29)

Grade 9 classes will not be held on that day and the students should not come to school, as there will not be supervision for Grade 9 students. This day helps students to appreciate essential workplace skills and helps to develop an appreciation for the importance of staying in school and getting a high school diploma. All graduating students must have completed their forty hours of community service by the date of the school prom if they intend to attend their graduation dance. This comes about as a result of the practice of some students who left their Community Service Hours to the last month of school and were not able to graduate in June. Come and see your friends perform an act or walk in the fashion show, proudly displaying their heritage. The buyout show will occur on Thursday, October 29th during Period 1 for grades 7, 8, 9 and Period 2 for grades 10, 11, 12. TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY: Wednesday November 4 is Take Our Kids to Work Day. This is a mandatory activity that all grade 9 students are to complete as a part of their Grade 9 curriculum. We ask that parents or guardians arrange for their son or daughter to accompany them to work on that day or to accompany a relative, friend or community host. Grade 9 classes will not be held on that day and the students should not come to school, as there will not be supervision for Grade 9 students. This day helps students to appreciate essential workplace skills and helps to develop an appreciation for the importance of staying in school and getting a high school diploma. LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS ON SAT. OCT 17TH: It's the Fall Cleanup the Capital road and wetland activity, at the wetlands on Lester Road. The area is home to four of Ontario's eight turtle species. Students are invited to collect from these turtles' habitat and along the road abutting the Greenbelt. Four + hours would work towards your volunteer hours. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Greenbelt, The Turtles, and help in the efforts to protect them and their habitat. GO ENG GIRL 2009: This is an opportunity for Grade 7 to 10 girls across Ontario to visit their local university and learn about the wonderful world of engineering.
