Day 2 - H.S. & Day 1 - Gr. 7 & 8

OPEN HOUSE TODAY AT MTHS: This is EDUCATION WEEK. Drop by today at Mother Teresa H.S. for our Education Week OPEN HOUSE. Activities start at 4:30 p.m. and run through to 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of displays to see and the BBQ will be operating for those who want a snack.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are looking for volunteers (good for community service hours) for tree planting this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday. The Friends of the Jock River Society is organizing a tree planting session in which they hope to plant a 1,000 trees in the field opposite St. Joseph High School. It runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd and 4th. You can sign up for part of the time. If you are interested, please sign up in Student Services by Friday at noon. GRADE 12 UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO BIOLOGY COMPETITION INFO: The participants are reminded that they will take part in the competition today in room #211 during period #3. The students involved in the competition are: Min-Ju Kim, Micheal Chong, Jae-Ho Lee, Eric Ho, and Charuban Mohan.

OUTDOOR CLUB: There will be an important meeting TODAY at 12:15 pm in room 103 for all members of the Outdoor Club. We will hand out the application forms for the remaining activities for the year.

REACH FOR THE TOP: The Quarter Finals have transcended upon the Crazy Kitchen. TODAY’s MAYDAY edition of Reach will feature The Fists of Ricky in a rational showdown against the The McLovins. The winner will advance to face I am Spartacus, next week, to decide who will play TACO MAFIA in the tournament final! Buzzer activation - 11:50 am.

LOST: A black case was lost recently in the boys’ Phys. Ed. change room. It contained a student’s retainer, needed for orthodontics, as well as a cell phone, a dark blue watch and a wallet containing a driver’s license and school ID. There is a small reward available for the return of these items. Information is available in the Student Services office.

EURO-TRIP 2009 TO ROME AND GREECE: The Easter Europe trip is back next year! We will be travelling with other Catholic schools in our board next Easter. First stop: Rome. A 2,753-year-old city filled with places you've heard about your whole life. See the Vatican. Seats have been secured to attend a Papal Audience with Pope Benedict XVI during Holy Week. Take time to visit the Coliseum (as seen in Gladiator). We will then travel to Brindisi but will stop first at Pompeii which was destroyed around 90 AD by the eruption of Vesuvius. You think that's old? In Athens you'll see the Acropolis, dating back more than 3,000 years. If you have a passion for ancient History, this is the experience of a lifetime. Sign up outside room 201 or speak to Mrs. Brady for further details. An information meeting will be held in room 201 on Friday, May 9.

FR. BAXTER SCHOLARSHIP: For the graduation class of 2008, the Msgr. Paul Baxter Memorial Foundation will award six (6) scholarships valued at $1500 each, to six college or university bound graduates of our secondary schools. The application deadline is May 16th. The award is given to recognize perseverance, faith and service to others. It is NOT primarily an award for outstanding academic achievement. Application forms are available in the Student Services office.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN POLICING: There may be a career for YOU in policing with the RCMP. The RCMP does not hire anyone until they are at least 19, but they do encourage young people to apply while they are 18, as it takes about a year to go through the process. Also for those graduates going onto a college or university, considering a career with the police either as a peace officer or as a civilian member specialist could help you decide which degree to study or course to take. GR. 7 & 8’s - WANT TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE: International Languages (Elementary) Summer Program from July 7 to August 8, 2008. A 5-week elementary language program for students JK - Grade 8 offered free of charge to Ontario residents at St. Nicholas school, Monsignor Paul Baxter school and Frank Ryan Sr Elementary School. $10 consumables fee (cash only, payable at first class), out-of-province fee is $95. The Dominican Experience is intended to be an opportunity for students to live with people in conditions that are very different from life in Canada. In the Dominican Republic, you will be living with Dominican families, eating Dominican food and trying to speak and understand Spanish. Through this experience, you will gain a greater appreciation of the struggles of the people of a developing nation. You will learn more about the 2/3rds of the population of our world that live on just $2 a day and you will meet people who are working to make life better for those who struggle. This trip will definitely not be a holiday! But it will be a trip that can challenge your perspective and inspire you to ask questions about what is important to you and about how you want to live your life. If you are interested in learning more about this trip please sign up with your homeroom teacher to attend a presentation in the Library on April 21, during period 3.

7/8 BOYS TOUCH FOOTBALL TRY-OUT:
Wednesday April 9th, at 7:15 A.M. sharp is the final try-out for the Boys Touch Football team. If you cannot attend see Ms. Brownrigg or Ms. McKenna.
