Would you like to enter a contest for a chance to win a cash prize and see your work published in a bilingual anthology entitled Pot-Pourri?  Teens (up to 17 years old) are invited to submit their work in English or French, to the Awesome authors contest. Contestants can enter online (see links below) or in person at any branch of the Ottawa Public Library. Please provide 2 copies of your work if you are submitting it in person. The contest ends Mon. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Reeds: Any 7/8 student who had Music during their first Arts block and owe Mr. Card "Reed" money, please make sure you pay for the reeds as soon as possible. You will not receive your report cards until these school fees have been paid. (IC Feb 10)

Learning Commons: Grade 7/8 Students are invited to visit the Learning Commons before school. Lunch passes have to be signed out every day.  Days for Gr.7/8 will alternate:
Mondays:  Gr.7/8

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

New York City Trip 2017: Those students who are going on the New York City trip in May are asked to meet in Room 136 on Friday, February, 3rd 2017at the start of lunch (11:30am). This is a mandatory meeting for all students as key information will be discussed and hotel room accommodations will be decided upon. (MR Feb. 3)

During the lunch period, no High School student is permitted on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the new wing which is the 7/8 classroom areas. (MK)

It's here!  The Winter 2017 Driver Education Program Registration Form is now available in Student Services.  Students may register online at conted.ocsb.ca or by mailing/faxing/dropping off the registration form to the Continuing Education Department (570 West Hunt Club Road). Registration runs until February 22nd.  Classes start on March 1st at Mother Teresa High School if enough students register. (KW Feb. 22)

Registration forms for the Winter 2017 Night School Program with the public board are now available in Student Services.  Once you have completed your form and have signatures from your counsellor and parent along with your student status sheet, you must register in person at 440 Albert Street from Monday, January 23rd to Thursday, February 16th.   The registration office is open from January 23rd to Thursday, February 16th from 9 am to 4 pm.  The office will close at 6pm on Jan 26th/Feb 2nd/Feb 9th and 7:30 on Feb 16thThe Winter session runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 9:51pmFirst night is Tuesday, February 21st and last night is Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Woodroffe HS (2410 Georgina Drive)

Free SAT Workshop Feb 14th from 7-9pm: A free workshop exploring how to study for SAT's, how it is considered in the Admission process, what the new SAT looks like as well as some tips to help along the way.

The Irish Experience Summer Programs in Ireland.  27 days in duration and offers 110 hours of instructional time to fulfill requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum requirements. Grade 11 English (ENG3U),Grade 12 English (ENG4U),Grade 12 English (ENG4C)

LF Voluneteers to come together to maintain/supervise the South Nepean outdoor rink at Ken Ross park.
The general duties are as follows: (KZ Jan. 31)
Maintenance:
-          Establish an ice surface within 10 days of being directed to do so by the City  (usually around December 15th, weather permitting)

Ongoing maintenance of the rink including:
-          Removal of snow within 12 hours of minor snowfalls and 24 hours of major snowfalls
-          Flooding of rink 4 times/week as weather permits, outside of regular operating hours
-          Maintaining an emergency access route to the rink from the street
-          Reporting of hazards, injuries and incidents to the City 
Supervision:
-          Minimum 30 hours/week of supervision spread across 6 days
-          Ensure the rink is supervised by a responsible adult aged 16 years or older
-          Make changing facility available to the public during operating hours
-          Record attendance statistics hourly
-          Have a first aid kit on site during operating hours

Songwriting Workshop: Have you ever tried to write a song? Would you like to be able to learn how to do it on the guitar? How about the ukulele? Never played before? No problem! Know how to play a little? Cool. This workshop will introduce you to some basic songwriting techniques including lyrics and 3-chord composition (it's all Bob Dylan worked with - seriously!) using a standard acoustic guitar or ukulele. All you need to bring is your instrument, some paper and a pencil.  For ages 13-18. Workshop takes place on Mon. Jan. 30th from 3-5 pm at the Ruth E. Dickinson Library at the Walter Baker Centre. 7/8 Ambassadors: All grade 7 & 8 students interested in becoming an ambassador please come to a meeting at 12:45 on Friday, Jan 27th in the chapel. Grade 7&8 ambassadors will help out with Kindness week, interview nights, education week etc...Eat your lunch in the cafeteria first and then ask the supervisor on duty to come to the chapel for the meeting. (TC Jan. 27)

Learning Commons: Believe it or not, high school exams are just around the corner.  To help students prepare for exams, the Learning Commons will be available as a quiet study space from now until Friday, January 27th. This means that any loud or distracting behaviour will not be tolerated, even during the lunch hour. Students are also reminded that food & drinks are not allowed in the Learning Commons at any time.
