WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

April is Poetry month and the Learning Commons is looking for a few good poets. We will be displaying poetry from MT students throughout the month of April. If you would like your work included, please submit a copy of your poem to the Learning Commons as soon as possible. Prizes will be awarded to the best poems submitted before the end of the month. To be eligible for a prize, the poem must be created by you and not "borrowed" from another poet. (NBD April 27)

SchoolCashOnline: Our adoption rate has been climbing since we launched on October 31, 2014. Thank you to all of the families who have already registered!!  Remember, online payments are quick and easy.  There's no waiting for your cheque to be processed...BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! If you need a refund, they can be done right away without a trip to the bank!!  So, if you haven't registered, check it out at www.mths.ca, click on the schoolcash online link on the left hand side and register today! Don't forget to attach your child to your account so that every time an activity comes up, you will receive an email notification!! Then all you have to do is go to the account and pay!  Seriously, it's that easy!!! (KZ June 26)

LEGO donations: We are looking for donations of LEGO bricks and/or sets for our new grade 7/8 club.

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Singles and doubles Badminton tournaments brackets for 7/8 intramurals are posted between the phys ed offices in the caf gym. Please check the brackets for your game days. Tournament begins Monday May 4th

No lunch passes - the Learning Commons will be closed at lunch until Monday, May 4th, due to the documentary festival. Lunch clubs will run as scheduled in the Seminar room and devices/books are still available to sign out. Thank you for your understanding. (NBD May 1)

Fantastic books at very low prices (and free shipping!) are available to order from the Scholastic's Teen Readers Club flyers. These flyers can be picked up in the Learning Commons. Complete the order form and payment (cash or cheques made payable to Mother Teresa High School) and return both to the Learning Commons. Books are shipped very quickly and you will be notified as soon as they arrive. If you have any questions, please stop by the Learning Commons.  (NBD May 1)

In April 2017 students from across our school board will be traveling ‘In The footsteps of our Heros’ to Vimy Ridge, France. Each student will research a WWI soldier, create a tribute and represent that soldier at the 100 Anniversary Ceremonies in France. On April 29, 2015, we will be holding an information session for parents here at Mother Teresa at 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons.  If you are interested, please talk to your parents about this exciting opportunity and come to the meeting. HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spring Football: There will be a meeting today in room 119 at lunch for all high school students who are interested in playing Spring Football. (AC April 23)

Any High School girls interested in trying out for the Varsity Touch Football Team: There are two morning try outs scheduled Tuesday April 7 and Friday April 10 at 7:30 am. and two after school try outs Tuesday April,14 and Thursday April 16 at 3:00 pm. Please be aware that you must attend two try outs to be considered. Please see Mrs. Rennick if you have further questions. All try outs at this point will be indoors. We will be going outdoors once the snow has melted and the field is ready. (JR April 16)

Members of the high school girls and boys hockey teams are to return their jerseys ASAP to Mr. Gervasi in room 309 or Mr. Whitten in room 130. (MG April 30)

Attention Grade 11 students.  Are you interested in visiting Halifax, Nova Scotia this summer?

Annual Spring Cleaning Bee at Watson’s Mill: Watson’s Mill is looking for energetic volunteers on Saturday, May 2nd from 9:30am to 3:30pm to help clean the Mill in preparation for the upcoming season. Join us for a couple of hours, or stay for the entire day. Please call us at 613-692-6455, or email: manager@watsonsmill.com if you’re interested. The Mill is still cold at this time of year, so please wear warm clothing and appropriate footwear, and if you can bring your work gloves and any extra rakes and brooms and we’ll provide tea and coffee.   See you at the Mill! Looking for a female babysitter to look after a 13 month old boy, weekdays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm, to start in May. Family lives in Barrhaven. Please contact Mrs. Gravelle at 613-263-6035. Thank you.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Adopt a Grandparent: For two residents of The Court of Barrhaven at Longfields and Strandherd. 

Any students who are looking for volunteer hours, while doing something good in your own community by simply being a friendly visitor to some people in need. There is a 91 year old gentleman with the start of Alzheimers as well as a 90 year old woman who is legally blind and is wheel chair bound. She sits in a walker and he pushes her everywhere.  Both are in need of some good company.

Looking for a grade 11 or 12 student to do ground maintenance, once a week, to start by end of April. Tasks mostly include cutting grass and cleaning the grounds of a townhome property here in Barrhaven.  $$$ to be discussed.  Please call Mr. Carrière at 613-825-0830. (KW April 30)

We are currently looking for new volunteers for our exciting Ottawa Music Expo event taking place during the Music & Beyond festival on July 5, 2015. The volunteer team will assist with workshops, handing out brochures and balloons along the canal to encourage families to attend the Ottawa Music Expo. There will be many volunteer opportunities available including set up and tear down of the event so feel free to contact our volunteer coordinator who will work with you to find a position that you are interested in.Volunteer positions include (but are not limited to)(KW July 5)

Pre-Festival – Pre-festival volunteers help with office-related tasks such as advanced ticket sales and concert preparation.

Usher - Ushers greet patrons, take tickets, and direct people to their seats

Box Office - Box Office volunteers sell tickets at the door, as well as any other merchandise for that particular event.

Stage Crew – The Stage Crew helps move equipment and stage pieces and assists the stage manager as needed for the performance

Grads!  Last chance studio day for Graduation photos on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Walter Baker Sports Centre in Barrhaven. Students who had missed earlier opportunities and have been inquiring about a final chance for Graduation photos, please contact the customer care team at 1-888-416-EDGE (3343) for appointments and information. DELF B2 Certification:  Any students wising to challenge the DELF B2 exam are asked to obtain a permission form from room 314.  The listening, reading, and writing components of the exam will be held at Mother Teresa H.S. on May 11.  The speaking component will take place on May 12 at the Derry Byrne Teacher Resource Centre (165 Knoxdale Rd).  Students are responsible for their transportation to and from Derry Byrne.  There is a $30 cost, which covers administrative fees charged by the DELF Administrative Center.  Cheques are to be made payable to the Ottawa Catholic School Board.  Each school may send 7 students to challenge the DELF.  The spaces for Mother Teresa H.S. will be assigned on a first come first served basis.  Students will be placed on the list when they bring their completed permission form and check to room 314.
