WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

A reminder to all that Thursday, February 19th is an Early Dismissal for the whole school. Transportation will run 1 hour earlier. (DD Feb. 19)

SchoolCashOnline: Now that many families have signed up for our fast, friendly and convenient online banking option, we encourage parents to regularly check to see if there are any new additions to your child’s account. If you have yet to sign up for online banking, please go to: ocsb.schoolcashonline.com to register. If you don’t see an activity you wish to pay for online, please call Kathi Zimmer in our main office with details. (KZ Feb. 20)

LEGO donations: We are looking for donations of LEGO bricks and/or sets for our new grade 7/8 club.

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

READ-A-THON - There are a few spots left. Please return all pledge sheets and payments to the Learning Commons or complete the online payment at https://ocsb.schoolcashonline.com (NBD Feb. 18)

Students interested in trying out for the grade 7&8 Boys Basketball team are invited to sign up on the sheet outside of Room 240. The tryout schedule can be found on the signup sheet. See Mr. Cloutier or Mr. Rusch with any question. (AC Feb. 18)

Attention all 7/8 girls who signed up for the girls basketball team.  Tryouts will be Tuesday February 17 (3-4 pm, Gym C/D), Monday February 23 (3-4 pm, Gym A/B), Tuesday February 24 (3-4 pm, Gym C/D), and Thursday February 26 (3-4 pm, Gym C/D).  Please bring proper attire for game play.  If you cannot make a tryout, please let Mr. Quinn know. Attention all 7/8 girls who signed up for the girls hockey team.  There will be a brief meeting on Tuesday February 17 at the beginning of lunch in room 236 in order to go over tryout dates.  (TQ Feb. 17)

7-8 Boys Hockey: There will be a practice for Tier 1 team on February 23 @Walter Baker, from 3:00-4:30pm.

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Biology Toronto Competition - ALL students interested in writing the Toronto Biology Competition, please come to room 202 at lunch on Tues Feb 17th to find out about the competition date and to register. (SS Feb. 17)

Attention all peer helpers, there will be a short but important meeting on Tuesday, February 17 in room 302 at lunch.  All peer helpers must attend.  Please be prompt. Topic: Kindness week activity. (MB Feb. 17)

Math Enrichment:  Students in grade 9 to 11 planning to write the Waterloo Math Contest are reminded to bring $5 to their enrichment teacher BEFORE exams.  You must bring in your money to be registered to write the contest on February 24.  We will meet next on Wednesday, February 4th. (NR Feb. 24)

The Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto is hosting an information session for applicants in the Ottawa area on February 21, 2015 at the Ottawa Convention Centre, Room 205/207, 55 Colonel By Drive, from 3PM to 5PM (registration begins at 2:30pm).  Registration: http://uoft.me/FAS-Ottawa. The STUDENT SERVICES WEBSITE at ss.mths.ca is set up as an information tool, including information about: Community Service Hours Opportunities, Courses, Careers, Graduation, Scholarships, etc.

LF a responsible student to tutor a Grade 4 boy in French, 2 to 3 times a week, either for community service hours or $.  Please contact Julie at 613-784-9922. Thank you.

LF French Tutor: (immersion) for a grade 6 boy attending St. Luke elementary school. Looking for help once a week to start.  If interested, please contact Mr. Kay at 613-823-8482. Thank you.

Winter 2015 Night School - Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Classes run from February 18th to June 1st. Students must meet with their Guidance Counsellor to discuss course selection, complete the registration form and have a parent bring the completed/signed form to: During the day:  440 Albert St, Room E 112B, Monday, January 19th to Friday, February 6th 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Evening Registration:  At the School Offering Your Course; Merivale HS or Adult HS Monday, February 2nd and Tuesday, February 3rd from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. (KW Feb. 18)

Driver Education Program - Winter 2015. Registration runs from January 12th to February 18th.

Forms are available in Student Services.  Classes run at Mother Teresa High School on Wednesdays from 3:15pm to 6:00pm.  First class is February 25th. (KW Feb. 18)

Summer Student Employment.  Apply online February 2nd to February 27th, 2015. Ottawa.ca/careers. (KW Feb. 27)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Volunteers needed!  We are coordinating our annual West End Basketball League (WEBL) Midget Girls Year-end Tournament and need basketball scorekeepers and timekeepers. The event takes place at LDHS starting from Friday (April 24th) after school until Sunday (April 26th) evening.  We are looking for high school students and priority will be given to those who can commit to the whole tournament.  This is a great way to pick up a ton of volunteer hours!  For more information please contact: James Turner at vprec@nepeanbluedevils.ca (KW Apr. 24)
