WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

GRADE 7 TO 12 CHOIR: There will be a meeting on Monday, October 18th at 11:30 in Rm 119 for any students interested in singing at our Remembrance Day ceremony. (AC –Oct 18)

SPIRIT WEEK: Hey MT!  It's time to show your spirit!  Our first spirit week of the year is here!  Monday is PJ Day (fuzzy slippers welcomed!), Tuesday is Retro Day (think 90's, 80's, 70's...or even farther back!), Wednesday is Titan Pride Day and our first SPIRIT RALLY, Thursday is Twin Day (can we tell you apart?) and Friday is GQ Day (Dress to Impress!).  Catch the spirit, and our Spirit Catchers may reward you with prizes! clip_image004ATTENTION MILITARY PARENTS & RELATIVES OF STUDENTS AT MOTHER TERESA: Any student who has a parent(s) or relative serving in the Canadian Armed Forces (army, air force or navy), police officer,  or RCMP is asked to invite their parent(s)/relative to our Remembrance Day Service on Thursday November 11th.  There will be two services, one at 9:00 am for students in grades 7, 8 and 9 and a second service at approximately 10:20 am for students in grade 10, 11 and 12.  All guests are invited to a reception in the school library following the second service. You are asked to arrive in uniform and to sit in the reserved seats at the front of the auditorium. clip_image006REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE -CADETS AT MOTHER TERESA: We are looking for students at MT who are involved in army, air or sea cadets to be a part of our service.  You'll be asked to wear your uniform and to assist with carrying a flag, marching, etc.  Please see Mme Milliard in Room 315.  Your presence is essential and most appreciated with this very important day. clip_image010ALL GRADE 7/8 VOLLEYBALL GIRLS! There is a practice Monday after school until 4:30 pm!  Get ready to practice hard, as our first game is Tuesday October 19th vs. Sacred Heart and again on Wednesday October 20th here at Mother Teresa vs. All Saints! (EM –Oct 19)

GRADE 7/8 GAME CLUB: Find out about the game club at the first meeting on Monday, October 18th during the 7/8 lunch.  Bring your lunch to the library seminar room after period 4.  (CHV –Oct 18)

clip_image014IMMUNIZATION CLINICS: Reminder to all grade 7 students and grade 8 girls: Our first immunization clinics will be held on Thursday October 21 and Friday October 22. Grade 7's who have returned their permission forms will receive their Meningococcal C vaccine and Grade 8 girls who have returned their permission forms will receive the first dose of the HPV vaccine. Students are reminded to eat a good breakfast and to wear clothing that will easily allow them to receive their vaccine. (CB –Oct 21)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

STAND UP TO BULLYING SQUAD: Just a reminder to Stand Up to Bullying members to attend a very important meeting in the Career Centre at 11:30 on Monday, Oct 18th. Bring your lunch. (TC –Oct 18)

SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Open practice in C/D gym Tuesday Oct. 19th afternoon right after school. Come prepared to practice and play.  Second practice is on Tuesday Oct. 26th after school, Gym D. (SS –Oct 19)

clip_image018LONDON, PARIS AND THE ALPS: The Easter Overseas's trip (2011) is looking for a few more participants.  If you have always wanted to travel to Europe, this is your chance to see the Piccadilly Circus, the London Bridge, the Eiffel Tower, the Mona Lisa, the German concentration camp, Dachau and then the Swiss Alps and picture-perfect Vienna.  What an incredible educational experience!  Please see Mrs. Brady in room 201 on Wednesday Oct. 20 during lunch for more information. HOUSE OF COMMONS PAGE PROGRAM: Are you interested in being a Page in the House of Commons?  Information is available on the Parliament of Canada Web Site and applications must be submitted online at www.parl.gc.ca/hocpage.  High School students who maintain an average of 80% and who are fluent in English and French are invited to apply.  To be eligible, students must also be accepted at a university in the National Capital Region.  Those chosen as Pages will be contracted to work for a period of one year, beginning late August 2011.  Please note that the deadline for applications this year is Friday, January 7, 2011.  For further information, please contact the House of Commons Page Program (Recruitment), Human Resources, Corporate Planning and Communications Services at (613) 996-0897. ALGONQUIN COLLEGE – TRANSITION PROGRAM FALL 2010: Do you have issues with anxiety, depression/mood disorder, social phobia, post-traumatic stress, or schizophrenia? Are you in Grade 11 or 12? If so, then plan to attend the one day Transition Planning Workshop on Wednesday, November 24th, 2010.  The Centre for Students with Disabilities at Algonquin College is hosting a free one day transition planning workshop to assist students with mental disabilities prepare for post secondary.  For more information or to register, please check the website: www.algonquincollege.com/csd/dare. GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by May 13th, 2011.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 10, 2011.

Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Oct 29)

clip_image026 GRAD PHOTOS ARE COMING!  Monday, November 1st - Friday, November 5, 2010 in the Library Seminar Room.  **NEW THIS YEAR - You need to sign up for your appointment at www.bookmygrad.ca.  Sign up now to get the appointment that works for you.  You will need the three-letter school code located on your information pamphlet to sign up which is available in Student Services.  Info on sitting and cost fees are included on this pamphlet.  Dress code for gentlemen:  dress shirt and tie, ladies: white collared blouse or tank top for a bare neck look.  You will need casual clothes and props for contemporary poses.  You will need to hand in your sitting fee to the photographer at the time of your photos.  For more information, check out www.edgeimaging.ca.  Edge Imaging can also be contacted at 1-888-416-3343.
