2019 Technovation: Any girls interested in participating in this year’s  2019 Technovation Challenge are asked to pick up an information package from Resource Room 132. “Girls in grades 7-12 (will) work in teams of 3-5, paired with a female mentor from high tech, to develop a mobile app that is relevant to their community, conduct market research, write business plans, and create a “pitch” for funding. There is a monetary prize for the winning Ottawa team and the chance for the top 2-3 teams to compete globally! Last year’s top teams came from Colonel By, Mother Teresa and Summerside Public School. Final week to order Titanwear.  All online orders are due by Friday, October 26th. After that the ordering website will shut down. (LB Oct. 26)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Makerspace Club: Our Makerspace club is so popular, we need to divide the club into two different groups. The first group will now meet on Mondays at lunch and will include students from 7-01 - 7-05. Our Tuesday group will include students from 7-06 - 7-10 and all students from grade 8.

Red Maple Book Club: Unfortunately, this week's Red Maple club is cancelled this week due to a High School class presentation taking place in the LC. We will definitely meet next Thursday, November 1st - hopefully the books will be ready to check out. Thanks for understanding. (NBD Oct. 25)

New Group for 7/8's concerned about the LGBTQ+ Community: We are starting a new group for students who are concerned about LGBTQ+ safety and inclusion in our school community.  Inspired by our school motto "Love and Dignity', we will gather to help create safer spaces for LGBTQ+ students at SMT.  All our welcome.  Our first meeting will be in Mr. Connor's room #333 on Thursday, November 1st at lunch. The Gr. 7/8 WE Team meeting is changed from Wednesday to Thursday, Oct. 25 (rm. 334).  We will cover important information for WE Day. Please bring your lunch! (LF Oct. 25)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

HS Track and Field: Any Grade 9 - 12 student who is interested in the track and field team this year and who missed the Victoria, BC meeting last week is asked to attend a quick second meeting opportunity in Room 136 at lunch tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:30am. (MR Oct. 24)

Quebec City Trip: There will be a meeting on Friday, October 26th at Lunch in room 103 for all those interested in the Ski trip to Quebec City. We will be giving out permission forms and letters at this point. (AP Oct. 26)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LF Volunteers:  Manotick Family Christmas Party. December 1, 2018. Require students from 1 pm to 4:30 pm. Must provide own transportation to and from the church (Manotick United Church). It is a fun day for everyone. Lots of activities.  Please call 613-692-4625 and speak with either Laurel Bajwa or Cathy Ablers. (KW Dec. 1)

LF Volunteers: MPB Halloween Party, October 26th, from 4pm to 9pm. Need 10 students to dress scary and haunt the halls. Need 3 students to run the canteen (popcorn, chocolate, water) and 2 students to assist Mrs. F. Furey.
