WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Breakfast Club – The breakfast club runs out of the tuck shop in the atrium every morning till 8:30 a.m. It is free for all students. We know many of you are rushing out the door in the morning, so you are more than welcome to grab one or some of the following; a bagel, a piece of fruit, milk and/or a granola bar. The menu varies throughout the year but we want all students to know they are welcome and the program is for them! (KM)

Ski Club Members - Please check the list outside room 213 ASAP to ensure your information is complete and to check the Ski Club Info Board. Ski club begins Wednesday, February 7th. (SM Feb 7)

Course Changes: Students looking for a change to their schedule for second semester, must make an appointment with their Guidance Counsellor through my.mths.ca. Check back regularly on my.mths.ca for the date and time of your appointment. Last day for course changes is Thursday, February 8th. (LB Feb 8)

Red Pine Leadership camp: Are you interested in attending a leadership camp run by Red Pine camp.  A one week overnight camp, for youth entering grades 7-11, will run the last week of August.  The camp will focus on leadership training.  Days at camp are filled with games, sports, drama, swimming, crafts, boating, low ropes course and so much more. If you are interested, or would like more information, please see Mrs. Byrne in Student Services.  Deadline to apply is March 15th.  

Ottawa University’s Mini Medical School presents:
-       6 week courses on Thursday Evenings from April 12, 2018 - May 17, 2018 at the The Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus and/or
-       DOC for a Day on Tues., April 24, 2018 in the evening at the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre.

Looking for Math Enrichment opportunities in our community? 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7/8 Badminton: Reminder for members of the Gr. 7/8 Badminton Team, we have a practice after school this Friday, February 9th in the wood floor gym.  Please see Mr. Pewa or Mme Kinloch if you are unable to attend.  (JK Feb 9)

There are two new lunch clubs in the LC for students in grades 7 and 8! We are happy to announce the Chess and Code My Robot lunch clubs will both begin meeting at the start of lunch on Wednesdays in the Learning Commons. Bring your lunch and meet in the LC Seminar Room at the beginning of the lunch period. No experience necessary. 7/8 Girls Basketball tryouts will be on Monday, February 12th and Wednesday, February 14th. Both in the tile floor gym. If you cannot make either try out please see Ms. Mandia in room 332. There is no signup sheet. Please just be there at 3:00 pm on Monday after school. (SM Feb 14)

The Learning Commons' clubs have begun, but new members are always welcome.  The Makerspace and Red Maple books clubs start at the beginning of the lunch period and students are asked to bring their lunches with them.
  • The Makerspace club is a fun club that includes crafts, Lego, knitting and so much more. This club will meet Tuesdays for Grade 7s and Thursdays for Grade 8s. 
  • Our Red Maple book club will meet every Friday at lunch. This year's club will be reading up to 10 Canadian Fiction selections selected specifically for students in grades 7 and 8. The titles have been announced and will be discussed at this week's meeting. 
The Learning Commons lunch passes: Please stop at the Learning Commons' main desk, before 8:35am, and sign out your pass for the day.

Jr. Girls Volleyball:  Any Junior Girls interested in trying out for this year's volleyball team are invited to come to the tryouts on Wednesday, February 7th and Thursday, February 8th at 3:00 in the wood floor gym.  Please see Mr. Beaulne or Ms. Hadwen with any questions. (CH Feb 8)

Attention all Gr. 9 - 11 Students:  If you are interested in writing the Waterloo math contest come to a short but important meeting on Wednesday, February 7th in room 326 at lunch. (RM Feb 7)
What's Your Type? - Are you 17 yrs old? Do you want to know what your blood type is? Then sign up for an appointment on the school calendar starting Monday, February 5th .Go to  my.mths.ca to sign up for an appointment. Then on February 12th, bring ID to the Learning Commons at your appointment time and find out your type! Volunteers from Blood Services Ottawa will be doing the blood typing. (SS Feb 12)

There will be a MANDATORY meeting for all students who are participating in the New York City trip this May on Thursday, February 8th 2018 at lunch (11:25 am) in Room 136. Important information/updates will be shared and hotel room groupings will be organized. Winter 2018 Night School Program from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board: Registration forms are now available in Student Services.  Registration is from January 22nd and February 13th.  Classes are given at a new location, The Adult HS located at 300 Rochester Street. To register, you must have the registration form duly signed by student, parent and guidance counsellor and a student status sheet.  Register at 440 Albert Street in Room E122B. (KW Feb 13)

UNB Visit: A representative from The University of New Brunswick (UNB) will be here for a second visit on February 22nd, at 8:10 am, in the atrium. (KW Feb 22)

Beginner Driver Education - Winter 2018 - with DTSM Driving School - Register online at conted.ocsb.ca or by mailing/faxing/dropping off the registration form to the Continuing Education Department (570 West Hunt Club Road).  Registration forms are available in Student Services.  Registration runs until February 16th.  Classes at St. Mother Teresa High School will run on Wednesdays, from 3:15 pm to 6:00 pm. First class is February 28th. 

OCSB Baysitting Course: Our OCSB Continuing and Community Education Department is offering the Canada Safety Council babysitting training course at our school for the winter 2018 session. Dates are: Saturday, January 13th, February 3rd or March 3rd, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.  The cost is $70. Students must be 12 years of age, must establish a passing grade of 75% on the final exam to receive their certificate. Students are asked to bring their own lunch and snacks to the class. The Milk Bag Club will be meeting on Thursdays from 11:30 am to 12 noon. These are the dates for this school year:  January 18, 2018; February 15, 2018; March 8 2018; April 19, 2018; April 26, 2018; May 17, 2018 and May 24, 2018.
