WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Are you interested in coding? To celebrate Computer Science Week, the Learning
Commons will be hosting a lunch and learn on Tuesday during both the high school and 7/8 lunch hours.
Please bring your lunch and, if possible, a device and headphones. There will
be extra devices on hand for those who need to borrow one. Happy Coding!

Great News! Booklets of 5 tickets for Morning Munch cereal program can be
purchased through school cash online until December 13th.
Energize and inspire with a healthy bowl of cereal and milk for a limited time.
Each Morning Munch contains an inspiring note or a prize voucher! The student
run company is part of the Junior Achievement program helping students develop
leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Morning Munch supports the Ottawa Humane

A Note to Parents regarding Online Payments: If there is something you would like to pay online for
your child and cannot find it on the
school cash online system, please call the school to inquire and we will

Looking
for Math Enrichment opportunities in our community? If so, Carleton
University's Math Enrichment Centre is offering a new course: Math
Connections in Arts, Science and Beyond, for Grade 8 to 10 students. Classes
will run from Sept. 26, 2017 to April 2018
on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 7:30 PM. Course

Magazine
Fundraiser: Grade 8 students are reminded to please make sure to get the
information out to your friends and family about the magazine fundraiser. Money
raised individually will take money off your own personal trip to Toronto. (SM and JTS Dec 13)
The Learning Commons' clubs have begun,
but new members are always welcome. The
Makerspace and Red Maple books clubs start at the beginning of the lunch period
and students are asked to bring their lunches with them.
- The Makerspace club is
a fun club that includes crafts, Lego, knitting and so much
more. This club will meet Tuesdays for Grade 7s and Thursdays for
Grade 8s.
- Our Red Maple book
club will meet every Friday at lunch. This year's club
will be reading up to 10 Canadian Fiction selections selected specifically
for students in grades 7 and 8. The titles have been announced and will be
discussed at this week's meeting.
The
Learning Commons lunch passes: Please stop at the Learning
Commons' main desk, before 8:35am, and sign out your pass for the
day.

THE GLOBAL EXPOSURE PROGRAM - still has a few spots available for the 10-day mission trip
to Guatemala in March 2018. This will be an opportunity to live in
a developing country while working in some of the poorest areas, on community
projects and with students. Furthermore, we will be exploring Guatemalan
culture at some of its most breathtaking locations, as well as visiting
historical sites like the Mayan Ruins. It is a trip that will impact your
life. Please see Mrs Ragaisis if you are interested in this incredible
once in a lifetime experience. (SR Dec 18)
Ski Trip: If you are
interested in the ski trip to Vermont I now have the provisional letters
available. The dates are the 2nd - 4th March and
the price is $425. If you are interested in the trip, come and collect a form
and return it with a $100 deposit by the 15th
of December to secure your spot on the bus. (AP Dec. 8)

The Milk Bag Club will be meeting
on Thursdays from 11:30 am to 12 noon.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
LF Volunteers: Mayor's 17th Annual Christmas
Celebration taking place at Ottawa City Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday,
December 9th, 2017. Please apply online at: www.ottawa.ca/volunteer. Click
on “BROWSE ALL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES” and search “MAYOR”. Arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. at the Festival Control
Boardroom (located on the 1st floor of City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) to sign-in, get a
briefing on how the event will unfold, have a bite to eat and get into
position. A light lunch will be provided to volunteers before the
event. Please be prepared to work until approximately 7:30 p.m. given
that we will need help after the event to assist with clean up.
In compliance with Ontario law, all volunteers must
have completed their AODA training to volunteer for an event. If you have
not already completed this training, you can do so online this link at: https://ottawa.ca/en/accessibility-training
All volunteers
under the age of 18 require the signature of their parent / guardian.
Parent/Guardian Consent form can be downloaded from
our online application. Also,
please note that the majority of festivities will be taking place outdoors,

LF a FrenchTutor for a Grade 1 female student
attending one of our feeder schools. Looking to tutor once or twice a week.

LF Volunteers: If you are looking to do something
in the school at senior lunch time, please consider helping out with the
transformation of milk bags into sitting mats in the Career Center just off of
Student Services. Bring your lunch!
