WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lost and found - starting Monday November 20th, lost and found items will be set out for parents and students to check for lost items. On Friday, November 24th (PD day), any items left will be donated to the Boys and Girls clubs. (SS Nov. 24)

Any interested female students in Grades 7 - 12 interested in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) are invited to the Technovation presentation on Thursday, NOV 16th at 12: 15.  (Intermediate students can bring their lunch to this presentation.) Jennifer Francis from the Ottawa Chapter of womenpoweringtechnology.org will be presenting. The presentation will be held in our Learning Commons. (SH Nov. 16)

The Scholastic Book Fair has arrived! Every year Scholastic provides several amazing books and gifts to purchase in our “bookstore” (Learning Commons Seminar Room). Both high school and intermediate students are welcome to drop by before, after school, or during the lunch hour. All funds raised are used to buy literacy resources for our Learning Commons. St. Mother Teresa String Ensemble: Do you play a string instrument? Would you like to be a part of St. Mother Teresa's new string ensemble? All students grade 7 to 12 are welcome to join. Please see Mr. Card in room 120. (IC Nov. 17)

Looking for Math Enrichment opportunities in our community? 7/8 Table Tennis tryouts: Grade 7 – Wednesday, November 15th in the dance studio after school

Grade 8 tryouts: Thursday, November 16th in the dance studio after school

Friday, November 17th - Final tryout for both 7 and 8 players after school

The Learning Commons' clubs have begun, but new members are always welcome. The Makerspace and Red Maple book clubs start at the beginning of the lunch period and students are asked to bring their lunches with them. 
·   The Makerspace club is a fun club that includes crafts, Lego, knitting and so much more. This club will meet on Tuesdays for Grade 7s and Thursdays for Grade 8s. 
·   Our Red Maple book club will meet every Friday at lunch. This year's club will be reading up to 10 Canadian Fiction selections selected specifically for students in grades 7 and 8. The titles have been announced and will be discussed at this week's meeting. 
The Learning Commons lunch passes: Please stop at the Learning Commons' main desk, before 8:35am, and sign out your pass for the day.

BABY PHOTOS: If you want that cute picture of yourself in the yearbook you need to submit it by November 31st
You can either email digital photos to  smtyearbook2018@gmail.com OR you can submit a hard copy in the box in student services. The deadline is November 30th. (AP Nov. 30)

There are only 20 baby pictures in at the moment. There are two weeks to go before the deadline of November 31st. Make sure you don't miss out once the deadline closes there will be no more submissions. Ontario Colleges Application System is now open! Check your student email for the Ontario College Application Information. Deadline to Apply for equal consideration is Feb 1, 2018. (TC Nov. 23)

Graduation portraits are taking place Monday, November 13 - November 17, 2017.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers needed: St-Mother Teresa is hosting two Wrestling tournament on Thursday, November 23rd, and Wednesday December 6th, and we need volunteers. Students volunteers will be away for the entire day and volunteer hours will be given. Please see Mr Connor in room 333 if you are interested. (BC Nov. 23)

Manotick Family Christmas Party, Saturday, December 2, 2017.  Looking for volunteers for their 10 activity stations set up in the Manotick United Church. Need students from 1pm to 4:30pm. Must provide your own transportation to and from the church.  Please contact Laurel Slattery or Cathy Ablers at 613-692-4625.

LF Volunteers:  Mayor's 17th Annual Christmas Celebration taking place at Ottawa City Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th, 2017.  Please apply online at:  www.ottawa.ca/volunteer
 Click on “BROWSE ALL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES” and search “MAYOR”. 
A​rrive no later than 12:30 p.m. at the Festival Control Boardroom (located on the 1st floor of City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) to sign-in, get a briefing on how the event will unfold, have a bite to eat and get into position.  A light lunch will be provided to volunteers before the event.  Please be prepared to work until approximately 7:30 p.m. given that we will need help after the event to assist with clean up. In compliance with Ontario law, all volunteers must have completed their AODA training to volunteer for an event.  If you have not already completed this training, you can do so online this link at: https://ottawa.ca/en/accessibility-training  All volunteers under the age of 18 require the signature of their parent / guardian. Parent/Guardian Consent form can be downloaded from our online application.

LF Volunteers: We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to man our kettles at over 35 locations across Ottawa. Our campaign runs from November 23rd to December 23rd, operating every day with the exception of Sundays. All money raised stays in the city of Ottawa to support various programs of the Salvation Army. Evenings and Saturdays are available for those interested in hours. Please note that students over the age of 16 are able to attend the kettle alone, under that age they must be accompanied by an adult. Register online:  www.salvationarmyottawa.ca/kettlevolunteer. LF Volunteers: If you are looking to do something in the school at senior lunch time, please consider helping out with the transformation of milk bags into sitting mats in the Career Center just off of Student Services.  Bring your lunch!
Dates available are November 16th, November 23rd and December 14th.   More dates to come in January.
