HS Day 2


Shepherds of Good Hope Collection: The SMT toiletries collection for Shepherds of Good Hope starts on Tuesday, October 10th. We are collecting shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and moisturizer to be distributed to those in need. Travel sizes of these items are ideal. Our collection runs until Friday, October 20th. Please bring your items into homeroom. (SG Oct 20)

Looking for Math Enrichment opportunities in our community? If so, Carleton University's Math Enrichment Centre is offering a new course: Math Connections in Arts, Science and Beyond, for Grade 8 to 10 students. Classes will run from Sept. 26, 2017 to April 2018 on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 7:30 PM. Course details and online registration form can be found at: For more information, please contact the course instructor David Salusbury at:


The Learning Commons lunch passes: Please stop at the Learning Commons' main desk, before 8:35am, and sign out your pass for the day.

Gr. 8 Toronto Trip: There will be an information night for parents of Grade 8 students interested in attending the Toronto trip. The meeting will take place on Wednesday October 18th, at 7:00PM in the St Mother Teresa Learning Commons. If you are unable to attend, the presentation will be placed on the St. Mother Teresa website in the Grade 8 Toronto Trip folder. (GG Oct 18)

Blood donation Day - We are looking for 14 grade 12s who are 17+ and willing to give blood on Monday, November 6th. If interested, please attend a meeting in Room 202 at lunch on Tuesday Oct. 17th, or speak directly to Jordan Vecchio or Ms. Soprovich. Participants would be missing part of the morning and would have a pizza lunch provided.

Curling Team:  Any high school students interested in trying out for the school curling team are asked to come to a planning meeting on Thursday, October 19th.  The meeting will be in room 301 during lunch.  Please see Mrs. Robinson if you are not able to attend. (NR Oct. 19)

The Learning Commons' clubs will begin after Thanksgiving. Students may sign up for our clubs starting this week. The Makerspace and White Pine book clubs start at the beginning of the lunch period and students are asked to bring their lunches with them. (NBD Oct. 16)
·   The Makerspace club is a fun club that includes crafts, Lego, knitting and so much more. This club will meet every Monday during HS lunch. The first meeting will be on Monday, October 16th
·   Our White Pine book club will meet every Friday at lunch. This year's club will be reading up to 10 Fiction and 10 Non-Fiction Canadian selections -selected specifically for students in grades 9-12. The first meeting will be on Friday, October 13th

Looking for student volunteers (video recording and editing, social media; stage assistant, participants).  Youth night for mental health on November 4, 2017 from 7 to 9pm at Barrhaven United Church. The event includes a live concert and messages from mental health advocates, such as Neida Mercedes founder of the Faith and Mind Ministry (FAMM) an interdenominational group dedicated to mental health awareness.  Students may sign in by messaging FAMM (Neida Mercedes) on FB @Faith And Mind Ministry or by texting 613 220 2893. Looking for a grade 12 student to tutor a student in grade 11 university biology.  Must be willing to come to the student’s home in Barrhaven.  The tutoring might be needed a couple of times a week.  If interested, please ask for Robin at 613-889-8531. (EB Oct. 20)

LF Volunteers: Do you have what it takes? Watson’s Mill in Manotick wants you to join our cast and crew for a truly haunting experience. We need volunteers who will scare our visitors and leave them frightened of things that go bump in the night.  Volunteers will be need for the evenings of October 19, 20, and 21 from 5pm – 10pm. Volunteers must be 14 or older and will need parental consent.
