WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

BOOK WEEK WRITING CONTEST FOR KIDS & TEENS:  Each year the Canadian Children’s Book Centre runs a writing contest for students in Grades 4 to 12. Young writers from across Canada are invited to submit their stories and/or poems to the Book Week 2013 Writing Contest for Kids & Teens. Judging is done by noted writers from across Canada and one winner from each grade will receive a $250 gift certificate for the bookstore of his or her choice. Two honourable mentions from each grade category will also receive $50 gift certificates. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2013. Entry forms can be picked up in the Learning Commons. (C. SPIRIT WEEK:  Next week is spirit week!!!  Monday is Character Day (think villains, heroes, cartoons etc), Tuesday is Titan Pride Day, Wednesday is Halloween (costumes MUST show face at all times and adhere to dress code), Thursday is Employee of the Month Day, Friday is Comfy Day (pj’s, sweats etc.).  Show your TITAN SPIRIT!!

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7/8 AMBASSODORS: Any student interested in becoming an Ambassador is invited to a short meeting at the beginning of lunch Friday in Room 230. (MP – Oct. 26)

7/8 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: There will be a practice Friday October 26 (3:00pm-4:30pm) in the Caf gym. (JB – Oct 26)

7/8 STUDENTS: There will be a SPOOKTACULAR dance just for you in the Cafeteria Gym on Wednesday, October 31. $2.00 only! You can dance the afternoon away with your friends! (TC – Oct 30)

7/8 WRESTLING:  There will be a 7/8 Wrestling Tryout on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 3 o'clock in the cafeteria gym. The tryout will be approximately one hour long. Please ensure you have your shorts and t-shirt to change into. (TQ – Oct 25)

EUROPE 2013: All students participating in the trip to Europe this March are asked to attend a short and important meeting this Friday at 11:30 in Student Services. (MP – Oct. 26)

Includes information about: Courses, Careers, Graduation, Scholarships,etc.

HOUSE OF COMMONS PAGE PROGRAM:  Information about the Program is available on the Parliament of Canada Web site and applications must be submitted online at www.parl.gc.ca/hocpage. Deadline for application is Thursday, December 20, 2012. Check the Student Services Bulletin Board in the Atrium for more information. (KW – Nov. 15)

PEER MENTORS: Peer mentors work with younger students and lend social or organizational support. Any grade 11 or grade 12 student interested in becoming a peer mentor is asked to sign up in Student Services this week. (MP – Oct. 26)

 TUTOR NEEDED:

·         Looking for a male tutor for a Grade 6 student attending MPB school. Looking for help in math and possibly other subjects, once or twice a week. Please contact either Dwayne or Marie at 613 440-0732. (KW- Oct. 25)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

·         Fun volunteer opportunity - We are looking for 5 or 6 student volunteers to help out at St. Luke School Movie Night on Friday October 26th. It will be from 5-9 with various tasks, set up, take down, snack booth, etc. Please email stlukecouncil@gmail.com  (KW – Oct. 26)

 

·         Student volunteers needed on Saturday, October 27, 2012. It's the Fall Cleanup the Capital road and wetland activity. Pick up forms in Student Services.

INTERESTED IN THE CANADIAN FORCES?? Any Grade 11 or 12 student interested in learning more about the Canadian Forces, is invited to go to Student Services and sign up to attend an information session by Sergeant Contini. He will be at Mother Teresa on November 6 at 9:30 am. All students that sign up will report to the multi purpose room on that date and time for the presentation. GRADE 12’s / GRADS

GRAD PHOTO’S: Grad Photos will take place in our multi-purpose room from Monday, November 19th to Friday, November 23rd.  Students are to book their own appointments online. Go to www.bookmygrad.com, select sitting type, date and time, confirm appointment via e-mail. School code is MTH.

Pamphlets will be distributed to all graduates and a few will be available in Student Services. Students with a period 1 spare are asked to pick up a pamphlet in Student Services.  Students not interested in purchasing a Grad Photo package must still get a Grad Photo taken, at no cost. This photo is used for the Yearbook and Grad Composite which hangs in the atrium. (JH – Nov. 23)

GRADE 12’s: UNB (University of New Brunswick) will be in the atrium on Thursday Nov 1 at Lunch. (JH – Oct. 26)

ALGONQUIN COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE: Students interested in attending Algonquin College next year are invited to spend the day at the college on Thursday, November 1st. Please sign-up & pick up a permission form in Student Services. First come first served with a signed permission form gets you a seat on the bus. (MP –Oct 26)

MCGILL UNIVERSITY WILL BE HOSTING ITS ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE for prospective students and their families on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Faculty, students and administrative staff from all units, including the academic departments, Admissions, Recruitment, Scholarships and Financial Aid, Student Services and members of McGill's student societies, will be on hand to answer questions and talk about academic and student life at McGill. FROM OUR CHAPLAIN – CALL FOR HELPERS:

  1. Shepherd's of Good Hope: Saturday January 26, 2013. Meal preparation from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm. Please let me know if you will help out (15 staff Members required).
  2. Barrhaven Food Cupboard needs our help. They have a huge delivery coming in from John McCrae school (200 boxes) and they need help unloading, sorting and bagging. We would be needed for 2 hours after school Wednesday November 7. We need at least 10 people to help.

HPV VACCINATION (NO COST) FOR YOUNG WOMEN IN GRADES 10 – 12: The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has announced they will provide three doses of the HPV Vaccine for eligible young women in Grades 9 through 12.
