ATTENTION TITANS!!!! We will be having a SPIRIT WEEK, the week of May 7-11! Monday is Comfy Day (wear your sweats, snuggies, and comfy clothes), Tuesday is Twin Day (match with a friend), Wednesday is Titan Pride Day (show your MT pride and wear blue and white), Thursday is Party Rock Day (animal print pants) and Friday is Multicultural Day! We will also have our annual Titans Around the World Multicultural Show on Friday, May 11th! Please as always beware and respect the school dress code. (MM –May 11)
HAVE YOU BOUGHT A MOTHER'S DAY GIFT YET? Akanaka will help you give your special mom a gift that keeps on giving...just like her. Visit the tuck shop in the Atrium during high school lunch to purchase a beautiful gift package of Fair Trade goods that may include teas, jewelry, and shea butter. PIZZA: Pizza will be sold Tuesday and Thursday after school in the atrium. $2.00 a slice, supporting this year’s Prom. (NR –May 31)
7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS 
CEC OVERNIGHT TRIP: All students attending the upcoming CEC (Canadian Ecology Centre) overnight trip are asked to attend a mandatory lunch meeting in Mr. Major's room (Rm 232) on TUESDAY, MAY 8. Students should bring their lunch and please be prompt. Thank you. (SH – May 8)
BAKE SALE: Bring in your quarters, loonies, and toonies for the BAKE SALE to support the RELAY for LIFE on Wednesday, May 9. Baked goods and delicious treats will be available during 7/8 LUNCH. (TC –May 9)
ATTENTION 7/8 INTRAMURAL PLAYERS: The start of the 3 on 3 basketball intramurals will have to be postponed until next week because of gym availability. We will begin on Monday, May 14th. Please check the schedule this week to see when you play. (MM –May 11)

MANGA CLUB: Manga Club will meet on Tuesday, May 8 at lunch in Rm 138. Anyone interested in attending the Ottawa Comicon must attend the meeting. We will also plan a Pokemon Tournament (DS), so your attendance is also appreciated. (JS –May 8)
HIGH SCHOOL REACH FOR THE TOP: Only four teams remain as we enter the semi-finals. The first game will be Wednesday May 9th between The Pierre Bouchard Experience and Team Number Juan. This will be followed on Thursday May 10th with a match between The Raging Rhinos and Uberspam. All games start at 11:40 in room 307. Spectators welcome. (JS –May 10)
PEER HELPERS: Attention all peer helpers going to the Peer Assistance Camp next week. There will be a quick meeting at the beginning of lunch on Thursday - please be prompt. The meeting will be held in Mr. Buccino's classroom, room 302. (MB –May 10)
ATTENTION STUDENTS WHO HAVE SIGNED UP FOR CO-OP NEXT YEAR: Co-op interviews start this week. If you haven’t handed in your application form and resume, please do it as soon as possible in order to get scheduled for the coop interview process now taking place! Don't delay and miss out on a great placement. Some employers are looking at fall co-op student applications over the next few weeks. (MO –May 11)
A REMINDER ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS! Please keep in mind that The Ministry of Education has developed a list of activities that may not be chosen as community involvement activities. This has been coming up lately and so we remind you that one of the defined ineligible activities is an “activity that takes place during the time allotted for the instructional program on a school day”. (However, an activity that takes place during the student’s lunch breaks or “spare” periods is permissible). Please make sure you are scheduling community service activities OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME. JOSTEN’S RINGS: A reminder that Josten's is here on Monday, May 7th and Tuesday, May 8th during senior lunch break in the atrium. Did you know that you can design your ring at jostens.com? Try it, it’s fun. Bring your $60 deposit on order day! Grade 11 students are encouraged to pick up a leaflet in Student Services. You can order now and receive your ring in the fall. (KW –May 8)
CAN YOU TIE A KNOT? A reminder to anyone who needs community service hours to come to the library (The Learning Commons) on Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. If you can tie a knot, you can help your community. It's easy and fun. See Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services for more details. (KW –May 11)
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Patricia Lavergne, Store Manager at the Merivale Road Running Room, is looking to recruit student volunteers to help set up the water station and hand out water cups for marathon participants on Sunday, May 27th from 5:30 am to 2pm. More specific information (exact location of water station, contact info) will be sent to those who reply but here are a few details so students know what they are expected to do:
What students can do:
1. Send an e-mail to merivaleroad@runningroom.com and include "NCM Water Station Volunteer" in the subject line
2. Arrive at the Tunney's Pasture water station location on time ready to help from5:30 am until 2:00 pm.
3. Bring hockey sticks to flick water cups off the road!
4. Bring volunteer hours forms to be signed upon completion of volunteer hours.
5. Sunscreen and comfortable shoes~no rest on marathon day! (KW –May 11)
SUMMER - DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM: Registration forms are now available in Student Services. Registration runs from May 1st until June 22nd. Locations include All Saints HS, Sacred Heart HS, St. Joseph HS, St. Peter HS and St. Pius X HS. The driver education program combines in-class, at-home and in-car instruction in preparation for the Ontario G2 Driver's Test. (KW –May 31)
SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION: Forms are available in Student Services and they must be signed by a Guidance Counsellor
1) OTTAWA CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 25th. Pre-register from May 1st up until June 22nd, 2012 in Student Services. After June 22nd, registration takes place at summer school locations on Tuesday, July 3rd, 9am to 2pm.
2) OTTAWA CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD. SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 27th. Registration May 1st - June 8th. Daytime registration is from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Albert Street Education Centre, 440 Albert Street. Evening registration at the high school of your course choice; May 15th (6pm to 7:30pm) at Sir Robert Borden and Longfields Davidson Heights Secondary School; Final Registration for Make-Up courses only is Wed June 27, 9:00am - 4:30pm or Thurs June 28, 9:00 - 7:00pm at 440 Albert Street (JH –Jun 8)

ATTENTION GRADUATES WHO ARE PLANNING TO TAKE A POST-SECONDARY PROGRAM IN THE DESIGN/ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES FIELD: Applications for the Edward J. Cuhaci & Associates Award are now available in Student Services. This is a $1000 scholarship and it will be awarded to two graduates in our school board. (RB –May 9)
All graduates going to the Prom please come to the atrium at Lunch on Wednesday May 9, 2012 and pick up your invitations/king and Queen ballots and table numbers. (JR –May 9)
GRADE 12: REQUESTS FOR EXTRA GRADUATION CEREMONY TICKETS: A reminder that if you require more than the allocated 2 Grad tickets that you must sign up in Student Services no later than Friday May 11. Signing up does not guarantee the extra tickets. You will be informed of the extra Grad tickets you will receive later in May. (JH –May 11)
ATTENTION GRADUATES: Applications for the Sylvester Quinn Memorial Award are now available in the Student Services Office. This is a $1000 bursary offered to each high school in the Board by the Ottawa unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association. The criteria for this award is service to others, scholastic achievement, need for financial assistance and strong moral and ethical values. (RB –May 11)

OFFICER’S NOTES – News and Information from our School Resource Officer
GET TO KNOW YOUR SRO… The School Resource Officer Program has been in effect in Ottawa Schools for over 17 years and was established for officers to provide support for school staff, students and parents. SRO’s may be involved in delivering lectures on various topics as well as dealing with incidents which take place at school during school hours or those that have an effect on the overall school environment. When an SRO becomes involved in dealing with an incident it may result in a conversation, mediation or a referral to an intervention or diversion program, or a charge. The School Resource Officer mandate is to build healthy, trusting relationships with youth of all ages by becoming a familiar presence in their schools.
FREE MENTAL HEALTH INFO EVENING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 17: In partnership with the Youth Services Bureau and Le Centre Psychosocial, Ottawa Public Health is providing Parent Information Sessions on Mental Health throughout the community. A public health nurse will provide information about healthy adolescent development, warning signs of mental health problems and give practical advice to parents around communication, role modeling and resolving conflicts.
