clip_image004TITAN WEAR!  Titan Wear order forms have been handed out.  ALL orders, accompanied by a cheque or cash, are due by Friday Oct 29.  Please hand them in to the Tuck Shop on Senior Lunch or room 216 at any time during the day. (LB –Oct 29)

clip_image006BUS PASSES: Over the next two weeks, bus passes will be issued to all students who have a spot on our school buses. It is important that all students who ride on a school bus carry their pass with them and have it available to show the driver upon request. (CB –Nov 5)

clip_image008ATTENTION MILITARY PARENTS & RELATIVES OF STUDENTS AT MOTHER TERESA: Any student who has a parent(s) or relative serving in the Canadian Armed Forces (army, air force or navy), police officer,  or RCMP is asked to invite their parent(s)/relative to our Remembrance Day Service on Thursday November 11th.  There will be two services, one at 9:00 am for students in grades 7, 8 and 9 and a second service at approximately 10:20 am for students in grade 10, 11 and 12.  All guests are invited to a reception in the school library following the second service. You are asked to arrive in uniform and to sit in the reserved seats at the front of the auditorium. Please see Mrs. Kathy Landry in the main office or Mme Jacqueline Kinloch in room 234 for an invitation. (JK –Nov 5)

clip_image010REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE -CADETS AT MOTHER TERESA: We are looking for students at MT who are involved in army, air or sea cadets to be a part of our service.  You'll be asked to wear your uniform and to assist with carrying a flag, marching, etc.  Please see Mme Milliard in Room 315.  Your presence is essential and most appreciated with this very important day. clip_image014HALLOWEEN DANCE! On Thursday, October 28th, all Grade 7 & 8 students are invited to attend MT's Intermediate Hallowe'en Dance featuring DJ Leo. The dance will run 1:15 - 2:50 PM. Bring $2 to your homeroom teacher and not only will that buy you a ticket into the dance, but it will also get you a ballot to enter a draw to win yourself an iPod Nano! Dancing not your thing? The library will be available for alternative activities such as study hall (wanna get your homework done before the weekend starts?), computer time, movie, etc. There is no cost to go to the library, however, if you want in on the iPod Nano draw, bring $1 to your homeroom teacher to get a ballot. clip_image020MONT SAINTE ANNE AND LE MASSIF SKI TRIP: The Mother Teresa Ski Club presents 2 great hills for one exciting weekend.  As an added bonus Saturday night will be spent in Quebec City at the world famous Carnival. Forms are available from Mr. Nearing (Rm.111), Mr. Linke (Rm. 119, during the morning) and Mrs. Brady (Rm. 201). Avoid disappointment and get your form now.  Forms are due Oct. 29th. (KN –Oct 28)

If you have not yet dropped off a completed yellowish-orange application form (from Student Services) and your resume (including a soft copy if possible) to room 111, please do so this week. clip_image026LOOKING FOR A FUN VOLUNTEER HOUR OPPORTUNITY? Here is a great one. It's cleaning up the home of our urban turtles. Saturday, October 30th at 10:30 am - help the environment and enjoy community action. It's the FALL CLEANUP THE CAPITAL road and wetlands on Lester Road between the Airport Parkway and Albion Road in Ottawa South.  This area is the home to four of Ontario's eight turtle species.  For any questions, please call Cheryl Doran at 613 290-9968.  Pick up more information from Student Services. ·          GR. 5 MATH TUTOR NEEDED: Looking for a tutor for a grade 5 student for math to meet at the public library beside Walter Bakker Centre on Sundays for 1 hour each week, $10/hour. Please see Ms Coyle in Student services for more information. (TC –Oct 27)

HOUSE OF COMMONS PAGE PROGRAM: Are you interested in being a Page in the House of Commons?  Information is available on the Parliament of Canada Web Site and applications must be submitted online at www.parl.gc.ca/hocpage.  High School students who maintain an average of 80% and who are fluent in English and French are invited to apply.  To be eligible, students must also be accepted at a university in the National Capital Region.  Those chosen as Pages will be contracted to work for a period of one year, beginning late August 2011.  Please note that the deadline for applications this year is Friday, January 7, 2011.  For further information, please contact the House of Commons Page Program (Recruitment), Human Resources, Corporate Planning and Communications Services at (613) 996-0897. ALGONQUIN COLLEGE – TRANSITION PROGRAM FALL 2010: Do you have issues with anxiety, depression/mood disorder, social phobia, post-traumatic stress, or schizophrenia? Are you in Grade 11 or 12? If so, then plan to attend the one day Transition Planning Workshop on Wednesday, November 24th, 2010.  The Centre for Students with Disabilities at Algonquin College is hosting a free one day transition planning workshop to assist students with mental disabilities prepare for post secondary.  For more information or to register, please check the website: www.algonquincollege.com/csd/dare. clip_image032OSEF FRANCE CANADA:  France-Canada Summer Exchange for students 13 to 17 years old.  Discover France, experience the French language and culture. In July, live with a French Family and in August host a French Student. Ontario students' cost of the exchange program is $2,550 per student which includes Toronto-France return airfare, departure taxes and transfers in France, Paris excursions (Tour Eiffel, Bateau Mouche), Paris hotel (1 night), parent/student orientation, Toronto visit (Niagara Falls, CN Tower), Toronto hotel - 1 night, screening, selection of and matching of exchange partners, hospitalization and repatriation insurance and administrative fees.  What is not included is supplementary medical insurance, personal spending money/passport fees, flight cancellation insurance and travel to departure city in Canada.  To obtain a preliminary application form please contact:  www.osef.ca. GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by May 13th, 2011.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 10, 2011.

ALGONQUIN COLLEGE OPEN HOUSE: Are you considering college next year? Algonquin College is hosting its Open House the morning of Thursday, November 4th. Transportation will be provided.  If interested in attending, please sign-up in Student Services by Friday, October 29th and return your signed permission form by Wednesday, November 3rd. clip_image036 GRAD PHOTOS ARE COMING!  URGENT:  Grad photos are taking place the week of November 1st - November 5th in the library seminar room.  If you haven't already done so, pick up the information leaflet in Student Services.  You must make your own appointment on line at www.bookmygrad.ca. Our school code is MTH.  ALL GRADE 12 students must have a yearbook picture taken.  There is no cost for yearbook pictures and you don't need to make an appointment.  See Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services for more information.  You can also visit http://www.edgeimaging.ca or contact the company at 1-888-416-3343.
