WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

YOGA: So far we have 6 interested participants for yoga in the month of May. The sessions will be held on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 3:15-4:15pm for four weeks (8 classes), starting May 3rd. If you are interested, you can still sign up for these classes!  Email the instructor: julierollwagen@rogers.com, or see her at the class if you would like to join. (JR –May 7)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

GRADE 8 SEMI-FORMAL: The grade 8 semi-formal is coming and we are trying to put together a slideshow for the event.  If you have any pictures from last year and this year (end of the year trip, ski trip, etc) please send it to: semi-formal@hotmail.com. (KM –May 7)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

clip_image002ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS TAKING GRADE 12 BIOLOGY NEXT YEAR: Marine bio joke: Q: Why did the whale cross the road? A: To get to the other tide! There will be meeting in room 202 TODAY at lunch for all students interested in going on a 5-day field trip to study marine biology in New Brunswick next September.  If you are unable to come to the meeting, please see Mrs. Sinclair or Ms. Pipkins for more information. PEER HELPERS: There will be a Peer Helping meeting in Rm.134 at lunch on Tuesday. (VW –May 4)

SAY IT OUT LOUD: The March winner for Mother T's writing competition is A.A.! Congratulations.  Please see Mrs. Simpson for your prize.  Submissions for April's poetry contest will be accepted up to the end of the day on Tuesday.  Thank you to everyone who participated in all of the writing contests.    See you next year! NEW YORK CITY TRIP – MEETING: There will be a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, May 5th, in room 135 at 11:40 for all students attending this trip. Please see Mrs. Bell-Dagenais (Rm 135) or Mr. Rowley (Rm 136) if you cannot be at this meeting. Less than two weeks to go! (NBD – May 5)

GUITAR SHOWCASE MAY 6TH: There will be a guitar showcase in the library on Thursday, May 6th during High School lunch. Come on out and enjoy music performed by some of Mother Teresa’s guitar players. (AC –May 6)

ATTENTION STUDENTS WHO HAVE REGISTERED FOR CO-OP NEXT YEAR! Co-op interview appointment slips will be given to homeroom teachers this week. If you have handed in your application form, resume and co-op fees then you will be given a co-op interview over the next few weeks. Please inform your parents of your interview and keep the appointment slip in a secure place. If you have a scheduling conflict please see Mrs. O’Sullivan to re-schedule. If you miss your interview you will be re-scheduled for a later date. (MO –May 7)

STRATFORD 2010: We are resurrecting the Stratford trip!  If you are interested in seeing THREE fantastic shows, please see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138.  The shows are Evita and Kiss Me Kate (both musicals) and As You Like It (Shakespeare).  The cost of the trip is $325.  We'd like to get our numbers finalized by the middle of May.  Only a $100 deposit in required to secure your spot. clip_image006SUMMER FUN! The Royal City Soccer Club is looking for volunteers and counselors-in-training.  The RCSC is a non-profit, community organization.  It has hosted, for 18 years, soccer camp experiences for over 90,000 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 years.

  • Qualifications for counselor in training:  ages 16-18 by June 28, 2010. 

  • Qualifications for volunteers: ages 15 or 16 by June 29, 2010

Looking for applicants with the following qualities:

·         great with children (ages 5 - 13 years)

·         athletic and good soccer experience (counselor-in-training)

·         good communication skills

·         team-oriented

·         energetic and enthusiastic

·         interest in coaching/teaching soccer to children (counselor-in-training)

·         responsible

clip_image008CAMP FFIT – FEMALE FIREFIGHTERS IN TRAINING: For Young Women 15 to 19.  Get a real-life glimpse into the working life of a firefighter, at a week-long summer camp.  Discover how at ottawa.ca, or by calling City Services at 311. Registration opens May 3rd, and cost is $150. Poster is up on the Student Services Board in the atrium. (KW –May 7)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED –RACE WEEKEND: May 29-30, 2010 Ottawa's Race Weekend!  Volunteers are needed to work at the Sweat Check, water stations, information booths and more. For more information go to www.runottawa.com. (MP –May 21)

SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION:

Summer School registration is on a first come first serve basis. Registration forms must be signed by your counsellor. (JH –May 28)

clip_image012MOTHER TERESA SCHOOL LETTER: Every year at the Graduation Mass a select number of graduates are awarded the prestigious school letter. The school letter is an award that recognizes outstanding contributions made to the MT Community over your years as a student. To be eligible, graduates must submit the application by Monday May 10. The criteria and applications are available in Student Services. (JH –May 10)

ATTENTION GRADUATES – PARENT COUNCIL BURSARY:

  • The Parent Council of Mother Teresa High School is offering an award of $250 to both a male and female graduate.  Applications are now available at Student Services.

  • Applications are still being accepted for the following bursaries and are to be submitted to Student Services by Tuesday, May 18, 2010

    • The Archbishop’s Award for Catholic Leadership ($500)

    • The Director of Education Graduate Student Award ($1000)

    • Sylvester Quinn Memorial Award ($1000)

    • Msgr. Paul Baxter Memorial Scholarship ($1500)

  • ****All but the Baxter Scholarship are guaranteed to be awarded to Mother Teresa graduates. There are a total of six Baxter scholarships for graduates in the Board’s 14 secondary schools. (RB –May 14)              

GRADUATION CEREMONY TICKETS: Each graduate will be given 2 tickets for family to attend the Graduation Ceremony on June 24. To request more than two tickets students must sign up in Student Services from Monday May 3 to Friday May 21. This does not guarantee you will receive the extra number of tickets requested. Tickets will be distributed starting Tuesday June 1. (JH –May 21)
