WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

ATTENTION ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS! Please make sure to have reading material available to you for SIREN. SIREN stands for Stop Immediately and Read Everything Now. This silent reading time should occur at the beginning of EACH period and should last for 10 minutes. Teachers may ask students to read for pleasure or to read course-related work. The library has SIREN boxes available for classes that need reading materials. Throughout the semester, our Principal, Mrs. McDonald will award prizes to lucky participants through her “Get Caught Reading by the Principal” campaign. Now is the time to get ready to read. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

SOCCER: Could all 7/8 boys and girls interested in trying out for soccer please sign-up in front of Mr. MacCuaig’s and Mr. Nicoletti's Physical Education offices by the C/D gym. Times and dates will be posted on the sign-up sheets. (CN –Sep 4)

LIBRARY: Welcome back students. If you would like to use the library during lunch, please drop by the library in the morning to pick up a pass. (CHV –Sep 4)

7/8 BAND: Any grade 7/8 student interested in joining band this year is asked to sign up outside the music room 120. (CA –Sep 4)

7/8 ATHLETIC COUNCIL: There will be a 7/8 Athletic Council Meeting with Ms. McKenna, Mr. Quinn, Mr. MacCuaig, and Mr. Nicoletti today at the beginning of lunch (12:40) in front of the Phys. Ed. offices beside the C/D gym. Bring your lunch. You can attend the meeting even if you didn’t sign up yet. (TM – Sep 4)

ULTIMATE FRISBEE: Any grade 7/8 boys and girls interested in trying out for the Ultimate Frisbee team, should sign up in front of Mr. Lussier’s class (Rm. 231). Times and dates for tryouts will be posted there as well. (BL –Sep 8)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

PEER HELPERS: There will be an important meeting on Friday at lunch for anyone in grades 9-12 wishing to participate in Peer Helpers this year. Both returning students and new applicants are welcome. Peer Helpers visit grade 7 homerooms, mentor students and act as leaders in our school community. The meeting will be held in room 134. (FZ –Sep 4)

CROSS COUNTRY: Sign-up for the High School Cross Country team will take place at lunch, all week in room 305. Running will take place Wednesday and Thursday after school. There is also a mandatory meeting for all those interested in Cross Country on Friday at lunch in room 305 regarding singlets and warm up shirts. (MG –Sep 4)

NYC 2010: Senior students (11 and 12) are invited to attend an information meeting for the New York trip in Rm 135 at lunch on Friday, September 4. The trip will take place in May and will be unbelievable! Cost will be around $600 for four fun-filled days in New York City. (JS –Sep 4)

LEADERSHIP CAMP: Can the following leaders for Leadership Camp please come to a meeting in room 212 at 12:45 on Friday: K.D., S.K., S.G., W.S., N.Y., C.U., M.L., T.M., E.M., R.H. (PC –Sep 4)

OUTDOOR CLUB: Any High School students interested in joining the Outdoor club is asked to attend a meeting in room 103 Tuesday, September 8 at 12:00 pm. We have a lot of exciting outdoor activities this year. (MF –Sep 8)

STRATFORD 2009: Mandatory meeting for ALL Stratford students at lunch on Tuesday, September 8 in Rm 138. Your final installment of $150 is due by the end of the week (September 11). Room assignments will be determined and the schedule handed out. Please do not miss this one! (JS –Sep 8)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Any student looking for community service hours, and is available to help out at the grade 7 Honk 'n Blow on Tuesday September 8th from 6:30 - 8:30 is asked to visit Mrs. Antoine in Music Room 120 as soon as possible. (CA –Sep 8)

WEIGHT ROOM: The Weight Room will be officially open for all high school students beginning Thursday, September 10, at 3:15ish. It will be open for both male and female participants on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each week. Use of the weight room after school on Wednesday is reserved for female participants only, under the supervision of Mrs. Soprovich. Times and dates are subject to change. (CW –Sep 9)

BOYS BASKETBALL: All Junior and Senior boys interested in trying out for basketball this year are asked to attend a meeting on Wednesday, September 9th 2009 at Lunch - 11:40 AM in Room 136. If you have any questions please see Mr. Rowley prior to the meeting in Room 136. (MR –Sep 9)

CALCULATOR UPDATES: Students and teachers with their own TI-Nspire CAS handheld can come by room 303 at the start of lunch on Sept 3rd, 4th, 8th or 9th, to update their operating system. (TS –Sep 9)

TEEN READERS: Need a book for Siren? There are great prices on popular bestsellers like The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, The Graveyard Book, Cut, Pop, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod #3, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Bar Code Tatoo and more..... Drop by the library to pick up an order form. Orders are due by Friday, September 11, 2009. (CHV –Sep 11)

STUDENT SERVICES

NIGHT SCHOOL: The Catholic School Board is not offering night school; however the Public School Board is. Public School Night School registration forms are available in Student Services. Students may register during the day at Continuing Education, 440 Albert Street Wednesday, September 2nd to Thursday, September 10th from 9 am to 3:30pm OR evenings at the school offering the course (Adult High School or Merivale High School) Wednesday, September 9th (6pm to 7:30pm) and Thursday, September 10th (6pm to 7:30pm). Registration deadline is Thursday, September 10th. (KW – Sep 10)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! FOR: Blast off to Kids Wellness. What wouldn’t you give to help raise funds for Children At Risk? On September 19th 2009 Optihealth Wellness Centre, Greco Fitness and Children At Risk are partnering up to run the third annual Blast Off to Kids Wellness Day. This event is not for profit and the primary goal is to focus on kid’s health, safety and fitness. We are looking for volunteers who would enjoy helping us run this fun and educating event. These volunteers would be helping with flyer delivery, set up/ clean up, and running activities during the event. As our appreciation you will receive: Credit, Community Hours Form and Letter of Reference, a T- shirt, and Blast Off to Wellness Lunch & Drink.
