7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

SUMMER SCHOOL GRADE 7 & 8 -OTTAWA CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD – NEW CHANGES:
A. Two remedial language arts for ELL students will be offered.
B. Two grade 9 math preparation classes intended for students achieving at level 3 but who may require additional support to prepare for the grade 9 academic program will be offered at Sir Robert Borden HS and Sir Wilfrid Laurier SS.
C. New explicit curriculums have been developed for the remedial literacy and numeracy program.
Completed registration forms are to be sent back to Continuing Education by June 5th. Forms available in Student Services. (KW –Jun 5)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

REMINDER: High School students are NOT to be cutting through the 7/8 wing (2nd and 3rd Floor of the new wing). This includes all times of the day…before school, between classes, at lunch, and after school. Violators will face consequences. (JP –May 22)

ATTENTION STUDENTS WHO HAVE REGISTERED FOR CO-OP NEXT YEAR! Co-op interviews appointment slips are now being given to homeroom teachers. If you have handed in your application form, resume and co-op fees then you will be given a co-op interview over the next few weeks. Please inform your parents of your interview and keep the appointment slip in a secure place. If you have a scheduling conflict please see Mrs. O’Sullivan to re-schedule. If you miss your interview you will be re-scheduled for a later date when there will be fewer job opportunities available. (MO –May 22)

GRADE 10 AND 11 STUDENTS: If you are interested in archeological excavation field work, please see Ms. D'Angela in room 211 following announcements. The Boyd Archaeological Field School is providing students with an opportunity to earn a grade 12 University Prep Credit in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDC4U). The course takes place between July 26th to August 15th. (ED –May 20)

MARINE BIOLOGY TRIP SEPTEMBER 09: This is a reminder to all students enrolled in Grade 12 biology next year, and who are interested in the marine biology trip next September, that your 3 post dated cheques are due this Thursday May 21 to secure your spot. Please see Mrs. Sinclair ASAP in room 202 for more information. (JS –May 21)

CAPPIES GALA: Please order your tickets to the Gala from Mrs. Simpson (Rm 138). The deadline for ordering is May 21 -- no exceptions. (JS –May 21)

STRATFORD 2009: Students attending the Stratford trip in October of 2009 are asked to meet in Rm 138 on Wednesday, May 20 at the start of lunch. We will discuss room assignments. Please be prompt. (JS –May 20)

STUDENT SERVICES

DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM – SUMMER 2009: Students may register either by mailing/dropping off the registration form to the Continuing Education Department (570 West Hunt Club Road), or by calling 613 228-3338 to register with Visa or MasterCard payment. Registration runs from May 15th to June 17th. The forms are available in Student Services. (KW –Jun 17)

VOLUNTEER HOURS: Farley Mowat Public School is hosting a Family Mayfair on Saturday, May 30 from 10-2pm. Volunteers are needed to work from 8 am to 4 pm at the concession stands, bake sale, ticket sales, BBQ and games for all ages. On Friday evening (6 pm - 8 pm) volunteers are also needed to help set up. Please contact Karla Randell at krandec385@rogers.com for more information or to sign up. (KW -May 28)

VOLUNTEER HOURS AVAILABLE: Come to the Great Barrhaven Ball Hockey Tournament on Saturday, June 6th and help out. Pair up and work as game officials or at the registration desk. Volunteer for one hour or four or for the day. If you need more hours, let us know. Send an e-mail to joeking@magma.ca with your contact information: name, school, grade and phone/e-mail. MPB NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: Monsignor Paul Baxter School is having a school Barbeque on Friday June 12. They are looking for student volunteers to help with set up, clean up, serving, face painting etc. A great opportunity to earn some community service hours right here in Barrhaven! RELAY FOR LIFE: Need volunteer hours to graduate? Interested in helping a great cause? Join the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on June 12 and 13, 2009 at the Nepean Sportsplex.
