WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
MOTHER TERESA 8TH ANNUAL EUROPEAN ENRICHMENT TRIP: Spain – Morocco – Portugal. Together with six other schools in our Board, we will travel to Spain and be immersed in Spanish culture. The tour includes: Madrid, the centre of the Golden Age of Spain, Seville, Andalusi, the meeting point of Spanish and African/Islamic culture, Alhambra in Granada, Costa Del Sol, an excursion to Morocco, and finally, Lisbon, Portugal. The 11 day tour leaves on Monday March 29, 2010 from Ottawa and returns Thursday April 8, 2010. Students currently in grades 8-11 are eligible to apply to participate in this experience. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
SEEDS IN RESIDENCE: 7/8 Students attending the SEEDS in Residence trip, please return your Code of Conduct sheets to Ms. Stewart in Rm 130. Also, e-mails were sent out by the university to your parents to sign up for nightly activities. Please fill out these forms. (NS – May 11)
7/8 GIRLS AND BOYS TOUCH FOOTBALL TEAMS:
Practices: Monday and Wednesday 3:10-4:30 this week.
Home Game: Thursday girls game begins at 3:00 PM Vs. St.Joe's. Girls leave P. 6 at 2:30 PM (TM –May 14)
SUMMER SCHOOL GRADE 7 & 8 -OTTAWA CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD – NEW CHANGES:
A. Two remedial language arts for ELL students will be offered.
B. Two grade 9 math preparation classes intended for students achieving at level 3 but who may require additional support to prepare for the grade 9 academic program will be offered at Sir Robert Borden HS and Sir Wilfrid Laurier SS.
C. New explicit curriculums have been developed for the remedial literacy and numeracy program.
Completed registration forms are to be sent back to Continuing Education by June 5th. Forms available in Student Services. (KW –Jun 5)
HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
REMINDER: High School students are NOT to be cutting through the 7/8 wing (2nd and 3rd Floor of the new wing). This includes all times of the day…before school, between classes, at lunch, and after school. Violators will face consequences. (JP –May 22)
MARINE BIOLOGY TRIP 09: There will be a very important but quick meeting at the start of lunch in room 202 Monday, May 11 for all students interested in going on the marine biology trip to St. Andrew NB located on the beautiful Bay of Fundy. Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with marine life, from tiny sea urchins to the enormous and endangered Right Whale. You must be enrolled in grade 12 biology next year to be able to go. Please see Mrs. Sinclair ASAP if you are unable to attend the meeting. (JS –May 11)
ATHLETIC COUNCIL: There will be an important Athletic Council meeting on Tuesday May 12 at 3:10 in Room 135. See you there! (EK - May 12)
ATTENTION STUDENTS WHO HAVE REGISTERED FOR CO-OP NEXT YEAR: Co-op interviews will be starting next week. Only students who have handed in all of the following items will be interviewed: application form, resume, co-op fees. Those who have not handed in these items will be missing out on fantastic and exciting career opportunities. (MO – May 13)
STUDENT SERVICES
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Royal City Soccer Club is looking for summer camp volunteers, CITs and camp counsellors. Locations served are Jockvale P.S. Field (Nepean), A.Y. Jackson S.S. Field (Kanata) and Brewer Park (Ottawa). Pamphlet and applications can be found in Student Services. (May 15)
ART STUDENT NEEDED: A local resident is looking for an art student who could paint "scenes" on his fence. Please contact Aelian Weerasooriya at 613 825-8905. His address is 24 Colindale Avenue off Berrigan. (KW -May 15)
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Farley Mowat Public School is hosting a Family Mayfair on Saturday, May 30 from 10-2pm. Volunteers are needed to work from 8 am to 4 pm at the concession stands, bake sale, ticket sales, BBQ and games for all ages. On Friday evening (6 pm - 8 pm) volunteers are also needed to help set up. Please contact Karla Randell at krandec385@rogers.com for more information or to sign up. (KW -May 28)
VOLUNTEER HOURS AVAILABLE: Come to the Great Barrhaven Ball Hockey Tournament on Saturday, June 6th and help out. Pair up and work as game officials or at the registration desk. MPB NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: Monsignor Paul Baxter School is having a school Barbeque on Friday June 12. They are looking for student volunteers to help with set up, clean up, serving, face painting etc. A great opportunity to earn some community service hours right here in Barrhaven!
