Day 2 - H.S. & Day 4 - Gr. 7 & 8

7/8 GIRLS attending the Queen's University trip in May please meet in Room 130 for a quick meeting at lunch today.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC EXPERIENCE: There will be a meeting after school on Monday in the Chapel for students who went to the Dominican Republic in February. Please let Mr. Nearing know if you are unable to attend. (Mar 9)

ATTENTION GRADE 10 GIRLS FITNESS STUDENTS: This is a reminder that you are excused TODAY at 10:10. Please go to your locker and gather all your belongings and then meet Miss. Kuchma at 10:10 in the atrium for attendance before going to the OC Bus stop.

MISSING GRAD RING - A grad ring was left in the girls’ washroom on Wednesday March 4. It has a lime green stone, a cheerleader on one side and hearts on the other. It is a 2009 ring with engraving on the inside. If found, please return it to the office. (Mar 10)

STUDENTS’ ACCESS TO GYM: A reminder to our students that you are NOT allowed to be in our gyms unsupervised. Students need to be constantly reminded that they cannot access our gyms without teacher supervision. This is a major problem after sporting events when spectators are playing sports in the gym after the games are finished. In some cases students are letting other students into locked gyms. Please know that if students are not obeying this rule they run the risk of being banned from the gym. Thanks for your cooperation with this as it is for your safety.

CONSTRUCTION FOCUS PROGRAM: Are you interested in "Building a House" for H.S. credits? If you are, please check out the Construction Focus Program information in your Course Selection Booklet on page 96. This one semester program is open to next year's Gr. 11 or Gr. 12 students. Mr. Damien Brown-Graham, the teacher of this program, will be here at Mother Teresa H.S. on Tuesday, March 10, during period 2, to speak to students who are interested in the program. If you would like to attend, please sign up in the Student Services office by Monday at 3:15 p.m. (Mar 9)

CAPPIES CHORUS: Want to perform on one of the biggest stages in North America in front of a couple of thousand adoring fans? Auditions for the 2009 Cappies Chorus will take place soon, and anyone can try out. Auditions take place Tuesday, March 3 at Merivale High School, Wed., March 4 at Lester B. Pearson High School, and Thursday, March 5 at Earl of March High School and Wed., March 11 at the National Arts Centre. MATH CONTEST RESULTS: Smartest Students: The results of the fifth CNML math contest are in and a 8 student scored a very respectable 4 out of 6 on the contest. However, the top students were Antony Bae, Young-Seok Lee, and Colin Miyata with a score of 5 out of 6. A great accomplishment on an extremely challenging test. The last contest takes place on Tuesday, March 24th. (Mar 6)

UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO: Students who participated in the University of Waterloo math contests (Pascal, Cayley and Fermat) on February 18, 2009 can see Mr. Cop at lunch or after school in Room 322 to obtain their results. (Mar 6)

STRATFORD 2009: The Stratford trip is still on but we need 13 students to complete our crew of theatre buffs heading to Southern Ontario in October of 2009. If you're still on the fence, it's time to get off! See Mrs. Simpson in Room 138 for details. You will not regret it! (Mar 13)

WRITING COMPETITION: Carleton's English Department writing competition is accepting submissions until May. See Mrs. Simpson for entry forms and word limits. Poems, stories, literary essays and scripts are all accepted. (Mar 13)

Ontario Launches Summer Jobs Programs: Ontario has a range of summer job opportunities for students, through Ontario’s Summer Jobs Programs. The Summer Jobs Service offers students free self-marketing and job search services, and offers employers a $2-per-hour wage subsidy to encourage them to hire students. These programs are open to students aged 15 to 24 years (up to 29 years for a person with a disability) who are planning to return to school this fall. Carleton University's Engineers Without Borders Chapter is hosting a conference on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 for Grade 11 and 12 students who are interested in learning about human and social development. Participants can be from any academic background; the sciences, social sciences, the university stream or college stream. This conference will be a great opportunity for students to experience workshops on a range of development issues, converse with university staff and students and to develop a better understanding of how the sciences and social sciences can work together to create positive change in our world.
