April is Poetry month and the Learning Commons is looking for a few good poets. We will be displaying poetry from MT students throughout the month of April. If you would like your work included, please submit a copy of your poem to the Learning Commons as soon as possible. Prizes will be awarded to the best poems submitted before the end of the month. To be eligible for a prize, the poem must be created by you and not "borrowed" from another poet. (NBD April 13)

LEGO donations: We are looking for donations of LEGO bricks and/or sets for our new grade 7/8 club.
7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
Math Munchers is changing to passes. If you wish to come to Math Munchers, any day Monday- Thursday, please see you math teacher for a pass. It will only be issued for students seeking additional support OR more challenging work. If you wish to work on homework or other subject material, please use the Learning Commons. This change will start Tuesday April 7th, 2015. (JD April 2)
7&8 Swim Team will practice at MINTO Recreation Complex April 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23 from 3:30-4:30pm. All swimmers are reminded to bring their practice permission form to Mlle Pendergest or Mr Lussier prior to the first practice. (CP & BL April 6)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Physics Public Lecture C164 Loeb Building, Carleton University. Thursday, April 9th 7:00-8:00 pm. Professor Thomas Gregoire, a theoretical particle physicist at Carleton University, will present ideas on what to expect after the Higgs boson discovery. (ED April 8)
Any High School girls interested in trying out for the Varsity Touch Football Team there are two morning try outs scheduled Tuesday April 7 and Friday April 10 at 7:30 am. and two after school try outs Tuesday April,14 and Thursday April 16 at 3:00 pm. Please be aware that you must attend two try outs to be considered. Please see Mrs. Rennick if you have further questions. All try outs at this point will be indoors. We will be going outdoors once the snow has melted and the field is ready. (JR April 16)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
We are currently looking for new volunteers for our exciting Ottawa Music Expo event taking place during the Music & Beyond festival on July 5, 2015. The volunteer team will assist with workshops, handing out brochures and balloons along the canal to encourage families to attend the Ottawa Music Expo. There will be many volunteer opportunities available including set up and tear down of the event so feel free to contact our volunteer coordinator who will work with you to find a position that you are interested in.Volunteer positions include (but are not limited to)(KW July 5)
Pre-Festival – Pre-festival volunteers help with office-related tasks such as advanced ticket sales and concert preparation.
Usher - Ushers greet patrons, take tickets, and direct people to their seats
Box Office - Box Office volunteers sell tickets at the door, as well as any other merchandise for that particular event.
Stage Crew – The Stage Crew helps move equipment and stage pieces and assists the stage manager as needed for the performance

April is fast approaching and the Canadian Cancer Society is looking for students to help with daffodil pin sales over the weekends of Apr 10th-12th and April 17th-19th. Locations are available across the city and students can chose a time and location of their choice at www.ottawa.myccsschedule.ca . Summer Jobs and Volunteer Opportunities for Students: Application Deadline for Positions: April 17, 2015
Summer Volunteer Opportunities: Assist with programming, cottage clean-up, laundry, animal care, gardening, weeding, painting, crafts, outdoor games etc. Mondays to Saturdays available. Summer volunteers are encouraged to participate one day per week, for 6 to 8 weeks. Interview and police check required. Must be a minimum of 14 years to apply as a volunteer. (KW April 17)

Important Prom information. Please fill out prom ticket registration details at my.mths.ca. This should be completed BEFORE you pay. Payments by cheque or cash will be accepted Tuesday To Friday April 7-10 at lunch in the Atrium. Avoid the line-ups and pay online! Guest tickets must be approved and purchased separately on Friday April 10th at lunch in the Atrium from a representative of the school administration. (SM April 7)
DELF B2 Certification: Any students wising to challenge the DELF B2 exam are asked to obtain a permission form from room 314. The listening, reading, and writing components of the exam will be held at Mother Teresa H.S. on May 11. The speaking component will take place on May 12 at the Derry Byrne Teacher Resource Centre (165 Knoxdale Rd). Students are responsible for their transportation to and from Derry Byrne. There is a $30 cost, which covers administrative fees charged by the DELF Administrative Center. Cheques are to be made payable to the Ottawa Catholic School Board. Each school may send 7 students to challenge the DELF. The spaces for Mother Teresa H.S. will be assigned on a first come first served basis. Students will be placed on the list when they bring their completed permission form and check to room 314. (SL May 12)
Prom will be held at the Sala San Marco on Preston Street on Friday May 29th from 5:30-11:00 pm. Grade 12 students are asked to sign into my.mths.ca and register their intent to attend, indicate food allergies, table preference, guest information (non-MT student) as well as vote for Prom King and Queen. At this time, each grade 12 student is allowed to purchase 1 ticket only. This can be done anytime online. During the week of April 6-10, tickets may be purchased in person at lunch, at which time guest tickets may also be purchased from your child's respective Vice-Principal and will require payment by cheque or cash ($80).
