SchoolCashOnline: Now that many families have signed up for our fast, friendly and convenient online banking option, we encourage parents to regularly check to see if there are any new additions to your child’s account. LEGO donations: We are looking for donations of LEGO bricks and/or sets for our new grade 7/8 club. Donations can be dropped off to the Learning Commons. Thanks! (NBD Feb. 20)
No Valentine? No Problem! If you're feeling adventurous, stop by the Learning Commons and get set up on a blind date... with a book! Those of you who are willing to take a chance, just may end up finding your one-true-love, or you might suffer a disappointing first date. There are only so many literary love connections to be made, so stop by the Learning Commons before they're all taken! (NBD Feb. 14)
IN THE LEARNING COMMONS:
The Grade 7/8 Read-A-Thon is coming up very soon. Please return all money and pledge forms to the Learning Commons as soon as possible to save your spot.
Friday: The White Pine book club will meet during high school lunch in the seminar room. New members are welcome.
The Red Maple group will meet in the seminar room - the Learning Commons will be closed to all other students because of a math contest taking place during HS period 3.
Unfortunately, there will be no grade 7/8 clubs on Monday and Tuesday, however, the Learning Commons will remain open during the 7/8 lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Do not forget to sign up for passes.
7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
Attention all 7/8 girls who signed up for the girls basketball team. Tryouts will be Tuesday February 17 (3-4 pm, Gym C/D), Monday February 23 (3-4 pm, Gym A/B), Tuesday February 24 (3-4 pm, Gym C/D), and Thursday February 26 (3-4 pm, Gym C/D). Please bring proper attire for game play. If you cannot make a tryout, please let Mr. Quinn know. (TQ Feb. 17)
Attention all 7/8 girls who signed up for the girls hockey team. There will be a brief meeting on Tuesday February 17 at the beginning of lunch in room 236 in order to go over tryout dates. (TQ Feb. 17)

Red Maple Book Club will be meeting this Friday. The Learning Commons will be closed during Friday's lunch, however, our Red Maple meeting is still on in the seminar room for members. 7-8 Boys Hockey: There will be a practice for Tier 1 team on February 23 @Walter Baker, from 3:00-4:30pm.

Looking for two responsible students who would be willing to referee a 7-8 Boys Hockey Exhibition Game
Attention all peer helpers, there will be a short but important meeting on Tuesday, February 17 in room 302 at lunch. All peer helpers must attend. Please be prompt. Topic: Kindness week activity. (MB Feb. 17)
The Matchmaker results will be sold during High School lunch Thursday and Friday. Make sure to bring a Toonie. Find out who is your match. This is for High School students only. (MF Feb. 13)
Math Enrichment: Students in grade 9 to 11 planning to write the Waterloo Math Contest are reminded to bring $5 to their enrichment teacher BEFORE exams. You must bring in your money to be registered to write the contest on February 24. We will meet next on Wednesday, February 4th. (NR Feb. 24)

Winter 2015 Night School - Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Classes run from February 18th to June 1st. Students must meet with their Guidance Counsellor to discuss course selection, complete the registration form and have a parent bring the completed/signed form to: During the day: 440 Albert St, Room E 112B, Monday, January 19th to Friday, February 6th 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Driver Education Program - Winter 2015. Registration runs from January 12th to February 18th.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Havenlea-Chapman Mills Community Association is looking for student volunteers to help with their 8th annual Winter Family Fun Day on Saturday February 14th from 11 am to 2 pm. The event will take place in Cresthaven Park (near St. Andrew Catholic School). Students will be helping to run the carnival games and generally help people if needed. Volunteers needed! We are coordinating our annual West End Basketball League (WEBL) Midget Girls Year-end Tournament and need basketball scorekeepers and timekeepers. The event takes place at LDHS starting from Friday (April 24th) after school until Sunday (April 26th) evening. We are looking for high school students and priority will be given to those who can commit to the whole tournament. This is a great way to pick up a ton of volunteer hours! Concordia University Admissions Information Day is Saturday, February 14th from 10am to 4pm. Register at: concordia.ca/admissionsinformation day. Complete your application on site! Also, it's portfolio day, when members of the Faculty of Fine Arts are available to meet with future students one-on-one.
