MOTHER TERESA SCHOOL COUNCIL is FOR ALL PARENTS

The first School Council meeting of the 2014/2015 school year will be held on Monday, September 22nd at

7 p.m. in the school Learning Commons located on the 2nd floor. Although there is a School Council Executive that is elected each year, parents do not have to hold an official position on School Council to attend the meetings. All parentsare encouraged to attend the school council meetings to benefit from the many discussions held and to actively participate in these discussions. Student Picture day is September 10th. All Students must be photographed for student ID and yearbook. Retouching is available for your photos and retouched photos will be used in your yearbook. Remember to “dress nicely” and bring your money if purchasing a package to the camera on Wednesday, September 10th. For more information on photos please check out edgeimaging.ca (DD Sep. 10)

  • Choir Practice - new and old members of the choir are asked to see Mr. Currie in Rm.119 at lunch on Wed Sept 10. Please bring last year's folder and music and a water bottle. (SS Sept. 10)

  • Looking for help accessing your student accounts?  Drop by the Learning Commons for assistance.  We can help you get to where you need to be as well as help you get your password reset so you can access that information yourself.
  • Grade 7/8 Students are invited to stop by before school in the morning to pick up a Learning Commons Pass.  On Monday /Wednesday / Friday, grade 8 students are welcome to come after eating in the cafeteria on your lunch time.  On Tuesday / Thursday / Friday, grade 7 students are welcome.  Come see what the Learning Commons has to offer!  (No passes required before or after school)

  • 7/8 Lunch Clubs will start in October.  Watch the announcements for further details..
7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • All grade 7 students are invited to Mother Teresa's Honk N'Blow on Wednesday September 10 at Mother Teresa HS. Come and try all the instruments before your Music class begins. The fun starts at 6 PM! Please click on link to see more information. (IC Sept. 10)
  • Any 7/8 student interested in trying out for the 7/8 Golf team are asked to sign up outside of Mr. Quinn's phys. ed office (near the cafeteria gym).  There will be 3 tryouts next week.  Tuesday Sept. 9, Wed. Sept. 10, and Thurs. Sept. 11.  All tryouts will be held in the Cafeteria Gym from 3-4 pm.  Golf clubs can be dropped off and stored in the Cafeteria Gym the morning of each tryout. (TQ Sept.11)

· Ultimate Frisbee:  Any 7/8 boys and girls interested in trying out for the ultimate frisbee team are asked to sign up outside room 333. Try-outs will take place after school Tues., Wed.,Thurs.  (KS Sept.11)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • ATTENTION all Grade 11 and 12 ANCIENT HISTORY STUDENTS from THIS YEAR and LAST YEAR, there is an important meeting on Thursday during the second half of lunch (12:50) in Room 304 regarding this year's TRIP TO TORONTO.  If you cannot make the meeting please see Mrs. Galbraith ASAP in Room 304. · Try-outs for the Junior Girls' Basketball team will be Tuesday and Friday after school.  Please see Ms. Hadwen or Mrs. Rose for questions.(MR Sept. 12)

· High School Sports: Tuesday - There will be a mandatory information meeting at the beginning of Lunch Tuesday Sept. 9 in room 309 for any High School girl who would like to try out for this years Girls' Hockey Team.  Please see Mr. Gervasi in room 309 if you can’t make it. (MG Sept. 9)

· Cappies 2014-2015 -- For all those interested in joining or finding out more about the MT Cappies team, please come to Rm 138 after school on Tuesday.  If you can't make the meeting, see Mrs. Simpson. (JS Sept. 9)

  • There is an important meeting for members of the High School, History on Film Club on Wednesday September 10, during lunch in room 304.  Please bring your lunch. (MG Sept. 10)
  • Thursday - There will be a mandatory information meeting at the beginning of Lunch Thursday Sept. 11 in the multi-purpose room for any High School boy who would like to try out for this years Boys' Contact Hockey Team.  Please see Mr. Gervasi in room 309 if you can’t make it. (MG Sept. 11)

  • HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM: Any grade 9 to 12 students interested in playing golf this fall, please sign in room 315. Try-out will be on Thursday, September 11th after school. (KM Sept. 11)

  • If you are a high school student and are interested in furthering and improving your vocal music abilities, Mr. Linke will be continuing last year's vocal program on an extra-curricular basis starting in the third week of September.  The goal will be to build your skill level, perform at school functions and prepare you to perform on a competitive level at local festivals. Rehearsals will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting on September 16th.  Sign up on the stage door. This year's drama production will be Alice in Wonderland.  Auditions will start next week and there will be an information session this Friday at the beginning of senior lunch on the stage.  Audition sign-ups will be on the stage door starting Thursday, September 4th. · There will be a try-out for all girls who are interested in playing for the Varsity Girls Basketball team. Next Monday, Wednesday and Thursday after school. (KS Sept. 11)

· All Leadership Camp Participants: Your final payment of $60 for camp is now due. Please see Mrs. Byrne in room 200 before school, or during periods 1 or 2 with a cheque. If you did not submit your permission form, or still wish to attend, please bring all paperwork to room 200 by Friday, September 5th. There will be a meeting for ALL participants, Wednesday, September 10th in the chapel. Attendance is mandatory. Camp runs September
15-17. (CV Sept. 10)

· HS Cross Country practices begin next week. Sign-ups are still taking place all next week. Please show up to a practice in order to sign up. Students need to make 3 practices per week. There are options: Mon.-Thurs. mornings: 7:30am Meet in AtriumMon./Wed.: Mrs. Hussey Tues./Thurs.: Mrs. Earle Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons: 3:00pm Meet Mrs. Galbraith in Atrium. · There is an important meeting for all High School Cross Country runners on Friday September 12 at lunch in Room 304 to pick up Permission Forms for this year's meets. (MG Sept. 12)

STUDENT SERVICES

The STUDENT SERVICES WEBSITE at ss.mths.ca is set up as an information tool, including information about: Community Service Hours Opportunities, Courses, Careers, Graduation, Scholarships, etc.

  • Driver Education Forms are available in Student Services.  Registration period is until October 15th.

Sign up quickly as class sizes are limited. (KW Oct. 15)

We are in need of milk bags for our Milk Bags for Haiti and other countries' club.

Please drop off clean and dry milk bags to Student Services between 8:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday during the month of September only.  We will put out another announcement when we will require more bags. Thank you.

Milk Bags for Haiti and other countries' club will start up again the week of September 15th, on Wednesdays and Thursdays during high school lunch.  Come spend a half hour with friends or meet new friends in a fun and relaxing atmosphere all the while knowing that you are contributing to a great cause and getting community service hours at the same time!  See you soon.  Any inquiries can be directed to Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services. Ottawa-Carleton District School Board - Night School - Fall 2014.

Come pick up your registration form from Student Services, complete it, have a parent/guardian sign it, have your counsellor sign it. Then register: Registration is from now until Friday, September 12th during the day at Continuing Education, 440 Albert Streeet, from 9 am to 3:30 pm.  Evening registration is at the school offering your course choice (either Adult HS or Merivale HS) on Tuesday, September 9th from 6pm to 7:30pm and Wednesday, September 10th from 6pm to 7:30pm.
