clip_image012GR 9/10 POETRY CONTEST: The Refugees and Human Rights poetry contest has been extended. The closing date is now 17 May 2013.  If you are a grade 9 or 10 student and have not entered, this means you still have two weeks to write and express your feelings about issues such as war, violence and persecution, the pain and isolation of a refugee's life, cultural/religious difference and co-existence, the importance of welcoming refugees, the challenges of adapting to life in a new country, the need for being welcomed and for tolerance in our society.  Entry form and rules are available  on the UNHCR website at  www.unhcr.ca     Individual submissions can be sent by email topoesie@unhcr.org or by  fax at 613-230-1855 or by courrier to UNHCR Canada, Suite 401 - 280  Albert Street, ON K1P 5G8. clip_image016CHOIR PRACTICE SCHEDULE - Preparation for the last mass of the year. Practice dates are Wednesday  May 8th, Tuesday May 14, and Tuesday May 21st. There will be a practice the morning of mass as well. All practices are held in room 119 at lunch. Everyone is encouraged to attend to help make this a spectacular final mass. (SS –May 21)

clip_image020SUMMER SCHOOL: The Ottawa Catholic School Board Summer School Registration Forms have arrived.  Summer school classes run from July 3rd to July 24th.  The pre-registration period is from May 1st, 2013 to June 21st, 2013.  Students unable to register before this date will have to do so in person on July 2nd from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at all summer school locations.  The registration form must be signed by the student, a parent/guardian and a guidance counsellor.  (KW –May 17)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Help needed for the 3rd annual Maria Luisa’s Spring Day for Kids.  This event takes place on May 25, from 1 – 4 pm, at the Jack Purcell Community Centre (320 Jack Purcell Lane).  Students can earn volunteer hours in a fun way!  For more information contact info@mlmifcanada.org, or 613-789-7488.  (SD –May 17)

On May 25th and 26th the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will once again run its annual bottle drive to raise money for the fight against Leukemia and other blood cancers. Not-for-profit camp for the promotion of mathematics.  The classes on recreational mathematics will be held at  Carleton University, from July 8 to 12 and July 22 to 26, 2013. clip_image027THE NEPEAN BMX ASSOCIATION is a non-profit association which has recently constructed a BMX race track in Barrhaven. The Grand Opening of the facility is on June 1st, therefore they are searching for student volunteers to help with track maintenance each weekend leading up to the event. Students can request extra tickets by signing up in Student Services between Wednesday May 1st and Friday May 17. No extra tickets can be requested after May 17.  Signing up does not guarantee you will receive the number you requested. Festivities will start Friday, May 24th and will conclude on Sunday evening, May 26th. It's fun for all ages as there will be dancing, singing, authentic Aboriginal food, local craft vendors & more.  Odawa is still accepting volunteers for this event. Students/Individuals who have CPR/First Aid Training is an asset but not a requirement.
