clip_image008SPIRIT WEEK:  Education Week is also a spirit week!  Monday is Twin Day - find a friend to match clothing with! Tuesday is G's vs. Gent Day - Gangsters vs. Gentlemen.  Wednesday is Nerds vs. Jocks Day.  Thursday will be our Multicultural Day where we will be holding a cultural fashion show during our multicultural show.  Friday get comfy for PJ/Comfy Day.  Remember the dress code is still in effect!!  Let's show our school spirit! clip_image009SPRING CLEANING FOR A GOOD CAUSE!  The Invinsible Nieghbours of MT are hosting a clothing drive during Catholic Education Week (May 6-10) to raise Money for the Canadian Diabetes Association.  Please bring your gently used clothes in bags to the chapel throughout the week and let’s see how big of a pile, and how big of an impact that we can make! clip_image015CHEM 13 NEWS EXAM: The University of Waterloo CHEM 13 NEWS EXAM will take place on Thursday, May 9th.  All grade 12 students participating are to proceed to room 211 at the beginning of period 2. (ED –May 9)

clip_image017CAPPIES GALA: The Cappies gala is being held at the NAC on June 2nd this year and ticket orders will be taken from now until May 13th.  The cost is $25 each, payable when ordering and cheques can be made out to Mother Teresa High School.  See Mr. Linke in room 212 to place your ticket order. clip_image019CHOIR PRACTICE SCHEDULE - Preparation for the last mass of the year. Practice dates are Wednesday  May 8th, Tuesday May 14, and Tuesday May 21st. There will be a practice the morning of mass as well. All practices are held in room 119 at lunch. Everyone is encouraged to attend to help make this a spectacular final mass. (SS –May 21)

Friday May 10 3:30 – 9:30 pm and Saturday May 11 6 am – 2 pm.  Volunteers are needed to help with setup, take down, parking, admission, and more! LOOKING INTO SOCIAL WORK NEXT YEAR??  Any student going into grades 11 or 12 next year thinking of pursuing a career in the field of Social Work at the college level, please see Ms Coyle in Student Services for an opportunity to take a Dual Credit in Addictions at Algonquin College from Sept 2013-Jan 2014 from 4-7 pm. clip_image025SUMMER SCHOOL: The Ottawa Catholic School Board Summer School Registration Forms have arrived.  Summer school classes run from July 3rd to July 24th.  The pre-registration period is from May 1st, 2013 to June 21st, 2013.  Students unable to register before this date will have to do so in person on July 2nd from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at all summer school locations.  The registration form must be signed by the student, a parent/guardian and a guidance counsellor.  (KW –May 15)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Help needed for the 3rd annual Maria Luisa’s Spring Day for Kids.  This event takes place on May 25, from 1 – 4 pm, at the Jack Purcell Community Centre (320 Jack Purcell Lane).  Students can earn volunteer hours in a fun way!  For more information contact info@mlmifcanada.org, or 613-789-7488.  (SD –May 17)

On May 25th and 26th the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will once again run its annual bottle drive to raise money for the fight against Leukemia and other blood cancers. clip_image030THE NEPEAN BMX ASSOCIATION is a non-profit association which has recently constructed a BMX race track in Barrhaven. The Grand Opening of the facility is on June 1st, therefore they are searching for student volunteers to help with track maintenance each weekend leading up to the event. Volunteers will be performing duties such as raking of soil and small rocks. If interested, please contact them at  NepeanBMX@gmail.com and provide your availability. (SA –May 24)

clip_image032DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM - SUMMER 2013: Students may register either by mailing /dropping off the registration form to the Continuing Education Department (570 West Hunt Club Road), or by having their parents call 613-228-3338 to register with Visa or MasterCard payment. Driver Education Program Registration Forms are available in Student Services.  Registration period is from May 1st - June 21st. (KW –May 31)

clip_image036SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS: ATTENTION GRADUATES! 

  • The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association offers a $1000 award called the Sylvester Quinn Memorial Award to a graduate enrolled in a college or university program. It is guaranteed to one graduate in our school but you must apply for it.  Applications are available in Student Services. Don't delay!  The deadline for submitting a completed application is May 14.

  • Attention any graduates who are planning to take a post-secondary program in Design or Architecture.  You are invited to apply for an architect’s award valued at $1000.  Applications for this award are available in Student Services. (RB –May 10)

clip_image038GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by Friday May 10th, 2013.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Monday June 10, 2013.

Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (JH –May 10)

clip_image040BUILDING UNIVERSITY TIMETABLES: Students who have accepted an offer from the University of Ottawa can begin to create their schedule for next year, as of Monday May 13. A representative from Ottawa U will be in room 212 at lunch on Tuesday May 14 to answer questions and help you on the computer. Students accepting from Carleton University will receive, before the end of May, an email which will explain the dates and times you can begin to create a schedule. ATTENTION GRADUATES:  Professional Engineers Ontario is offering two $500 scholarships to students who will be attending an engineering faculty at an Ontario University. Applications are available in Student Services.  (RB –May 16)

clip_image042GRADUATION CEREMONY TICKETS: Grade 12 students are reminded that each graduate receives 2 guest tickets. Students can request extra tickets by signing up in Student Services between Wednesday May 1st and Friday May 17. No extra tickets can be requested after May 17.  Signing up does not guarantee you will receive the number you requested. Students will be informed exactly how many extra tickets they will receive shortly thereafter. (JH –May 17)

INSPIRE 2013: On May 11th, 2013, YouthNet and Shopify will be hosting an unforgettable DJ/Graffiti/mentoring/anything but the kitchen sink experience called #inspire2013.  Youth who attend this event will have the opportunity to meet some of Canada’s top DJ’s, join DJ workshops, slam poetry sessions, murals and more! All for FREE! The event will be catered, have unreal prize give aways and amazing guest speakers and mentors! Event will take place at Shopify Ottawa!
