WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

clip_image002COLD WEATHER REMINDER: Please encourage your son or daughter to dress warmly as the cold weather is upon us. Boots, hats coats and mitts are always recommended for the cold Ottawa winters. When the weather becomes too cold, the grade 7/8 students will not be going outside during their lunch recess. (MEA –Jan 22)

clip_image004SKI CLUB: Ski club started Jan 16. The bus list is posted near the career center and on the second and third floor near the main entrance stairwell.  A reminder to club members that their equipment is to be dropped off in the ski shed located in the auto compound. The shed is the blue building just in front of the gates. The bus location will be in the same area as the shed at the end of the school day. There will be no early dismissal. Also make sure that you all have your helmets, and leave any electronic devices at home. (KN –Jan 23)

 

 

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS clip_image006

clip_image0087/8 GIRLS HOCKEY: All grade 7/8 girls who are trying out for hockey are required to attend a meeting in room 340 at lunch today (Monday).  It will be brief so come prepared to continue downstairs for lunch. (MP –Jan 21)

FOR GRADE 7 STUDENTS: Babysitting Program flyers for classes starting the week of January 28, 2013 are available in Student Services for pick up. (KW –Jan 25)

clip_image010BADMINTON TRY-OUTS: Grade 7 & 8 boys and girls interested in playing on the intermediate badminton team are asked to sign up on the list posted on Mlle Pendergest's classroom door - room 236.  Try-outs will be held after school on January 30th and 31st (until 4:30pm).  Bring a racquet, if you have one, and bring your A game! HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

MATCHMAKER IS BACK: MTSAID is proud to bring back Matchmaker.  Fill out your questionnaire in homeroom Monday morning.  Period 1 spare students can pick up and return completed forms to the guidance office.  Results will be sold in February.

clip_image014HIGH SCHOOL EXAM SCHEDULE NOW AVAILABLE: The HS Exam Schedule is now posted on the Mother Teresa Website.  Extra copies are available in main office and Student Services, for those without access. All students are to return any textbooks or course items back to their teacher by end of semester. In the event that buses are cancelled on one of the exam days, all exams will be bumped to the next day. (MR –Jan 25)

clip_image018STUDENT SUMMER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: The City hires hundreds of young people, starting at age 16, every summer for everything from wading pools to libraries to construction sites.  The opportunity to apply is only available until early February. http://ottawa.ca/en/city-hall/jobs-city/summer-student-employment-program.  (KW –Jan 31)

 

clip_image020DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM REGISTRATION FORMS are available in Student Services for the March Session.  Registration runs from January 7th until February 27th.  Sign up quickly as class sizes are limited! (KW –Jan 31)

clip_image022NIGHT SCHOOL INFORMATION (session February 19th - May 29th) from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is available in Student Services.  Registration details are as follows:

  • During the day from Monday, January 21st to Tuesday, February 12th at 440 Albert Street from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm

  • Evening registration is at the high school site of your course choice (Adult HS or Merivale HS) on Monday, February 11th (6:00pm -7:30pm), Tuesday, February 12th (6:00 pm - 7:30pm)

  • Registration deadline is February 12th. 

All classes are conditional to sufficient enrolment and are subject to cancellation or transfer to an alternate location. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. clip_image026PROM COMMITTEE:  There will be a Prom Committee meeting on Monday January 21, 2013, in the library seminar room, during HS lunch. Please bring your theme ideas. We will be selecting a theme and discuss upcoming fundraisers. All fundraising proposals must be passed to Mrs. Rennick prior to going to administration for approval. (JR –Jan 21)

clip_image028SAINT PAUL UNIVERSITY is having an open house on January 23rd, 2013 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  at 223 main Street in Ottawa in the Cafe Paulo. Students need to register.  4 Scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Conditions apply. (KW –Jan 23)

 

clip_image030GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by Friday May 10th, 2013.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Monday June 10, 2013.

clip_image040MATH WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS - TUESDAY JANUARY 29:  Learn more about how math is taught in classrooms today and how parents can support their child's learning. CSPA, in collaboration with the St. Francis Xavier & the St. Mark Families of Schools, is hosting math workshops for parents of K-12 students. The event will take place at St. Mark High School (1040 Dozois Road, Manotick) on Tuesday, January 29, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  The workshops will be facilitated by OCSB Educational Consultants.
