WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
FIRST AID KIT FUNDRAISER: This is a reminder to ask your family, friends and neighbours if they would like to purchase a first aid kit. The top seller will be included in the fundraiser company’s quarterly draw for a prize and the top selling class will receive a pizza party – all we need to do is sell at least 500 kits! The goal is to sell first aid kits to raise money to purchases needed supplies for the school. (KZ –Nov 20)
ALPINE SKI TEAM: All skiers (grade 7-12) interested in joining the Alpine Ski Racing Team should sign up outside of room 201. If you own a pair of skies and are interested in learning both how to ski better and learn a new sport should join this team. See Mrs. Brady or Mr. Steinke for more details. (AB –Nov 23)
BOOKFACE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST: Calling all photographers. Do you like to take pictures? Enter the first MTHS BookFace Contest. Check out contest details on the posters around the school or drop by the Learning Commons for more information. Deadline for entries is November 30th. (CHV –Nov 30)
SKI/SNOWBOARD CLUB: Forms are available in the main office, as well as on the MTHS website, under the News & Docs tab. Please return ASAP as the demand is high and space is limited. (KN –Nov 30)
BOOK WEEK WRITING CONTEST FOR KIDS & TEENS: Each year the Canadian Children’s Book Centre runs a writing contest for students in Grades 4 to 12. Young writers from across Canada are invited to submit their stories and/or poems to the Book Week 2013 Writing Contest for Kids & Teens. Judging is done by noted writers from across Canada and one winner from each grade will receive a $250 gift certificate for the bookstore of his or her choice. Two honourable mentions from each grade category will also receive $50 gift certificates. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2013. Entry forms can be picked up in the Learning Commons. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
READ-A-THON: On November 22, do you want to wear your pjs, hang out with friends and READ for fun all day in the TLC? Prizes! Pledge forms are available in the TLC. (CHV –Nov 22)
7/8 TABLE TENNIS: There will be a tryout tonight (Tuesday November 20) after school in the multi purpose room (Rm 131) for all grade 8 boys and girls interested in playing on the 7/8 Table Tennis team. Note: the grade 8 girls tryout has been moved to tonight! There will be practices on Wednesday and Thursday for all team members. The team list will be posted on Mr. Lussier's door (231) Wednesday morning. (BL –Nov 22)

FOOTBALL EQUIPMENT RETURN - Wednesday, November 21. Please return all football equipment to room 119 at lunch on Wednesday, November 21. Please wash all practice jerseys, pants and girdles. Members of the football team can keep their game jerseys. (AC – Nov 21)
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Two students from Algonquin College will be running a charity bottle drive this upcoming Saturday, November 24 in Barrhaven. The drive will take place between 11am and 2pm. The money raised from the bottle drive will support Movember and sons charity. Community service hours will be given. For those interested, please contact Mark at 613-262-9200 for further details. SAINT MARY'S UNIVERSITY STUDENT AND PARENT INFORMATION SESSION. A representative will be offering an information session on Tuesday, November 20th, from 7:00-8:30pm at the Holiday Inn and Suites Kanata-Ottawa. The session is a great opportunity to learn about studying on the East Coast, Saint Mary's University programs, admissions, scholarships and more. (KW –Nov 20)
GRAD PHOTO’S: Grad Photos will take place in our multi-purpose room from Monday, November 19th to Friday, November 23rd. Students are to book their own appointments online. Go to www.bookmygrad.com, select sitting type, date and time, confirm appointment via e-mail. School code is MTH. Pamphlets will be distributed to all graduates and a few will be available in Student Services. Students with a period 1 spare are asked to pick up a pamphlet in Student Services. Students not interested in purchasing a Grad Photo package must still get a Grad Photo taken, at no cost. This photo is used for the Yearbook and Grad Composite which hangs in the atrium. GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES: In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June. As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa:
· PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance. The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by Friday May 10th, 2013.
- GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Monday June 10, 2013.
Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Nov 23)
OTTAWA UNIVERSITY INFORMATION EVENING AND FAIR, THURSDAY DEC 6 AT 7:30PM: The presentations will focus on the undergraduate studies admissions process for high school students in Canada, important deadlines and ways to increase scholarship and bursary potential. In addition, faculty representatives will be on hand during the fair to answer questions. Students must confirm their attendance by completing the online registration form. Those unable to attend the on-campus event can join us online instead for a live webcast of the presentations. We will stream the English-language presentation at 7:30 p.m. (EST) and the French-language presentation at 6 p.m. (EST). GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY: Any High School girls interested in improving their field hockey skills this winter are encouraged to check out the Ottawa Capitals Field Hockey Club at www.capitalsfhc.com. This club offers a skills development program every Sunday (8-10am) from January 20th to March 31st, 2013. The program will run at Carleton University and focus on ball control, passing (pushing, sweeping, and flicking), short corners, and various game play situations.
