WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

clip_image002 “RENT” – SCHOOL EDITION: Performance dates are March 4th, 5th and 6th, 2010.  Shows start at 7:30 pm.  Tickets go on sale starting Monday, February 22nd, 2010.  The cost is $ 10.00 for adults and $8.00 for students.  They will be available for purchase by students during both junior and senior lunches. Members of the surrounding community can purchase tickets at the Mother Teresa office between the hours of 10 am to 3 pm.  Further information may be obtained by calling the school at 613-823-1663 during regular office hours. OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOK RETURN: Students can return all overdue library books for free on Friday, March 5 if they donate a canned food item per book. (CHV –Mar 5)

OPTION SHEETS:  Class presentations have started, to discuss course selection for next year. All classes will be visited prior to our Parent Information Thursday Night Feb 25, 6:30 - 8:00pm. Please check out our new High School Elective Course Guide for descriptions of all elective courses and our two new Focus Programs. The descriptions are found on our school website at www.mths.ca, on the right hand side below the Titan logo, just under the Daily Announcements. Option sheets are due Friday March 5th. (JH –Mar 5)

clip_image004CANNED FOOD DRIVE: ATTENTION TITANS!!  We still have a long way to go before we reach our goal of 10,000 cans.  So...we are extending our drive until Wednesday March 10, 2010.  Bring in your non-perishables ASAP.  Homeroom and individual challenges have been made!  Remember that there are prizes for the homerooms that bring in the most cans per student.  Happy Canning!! YOGA: Next Yoga session will run March 2nd to the 29th Tuesdays & Thursdays (no classes during March break). $61.00 for the month or $10.00 to drop in. Registration and payment can be done just before start of class in the studio. (JR –Mar 12)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

REACH FOR THE TOP: All Reach For the Top players are invited to come to Room 233 at the beginning of 7/8  lunch on Wednesday, March 3. (TC –Mar 3)

7/8 ART CLUB: Reminder that Art Club will be moved to Wednesday this week after school from 3:00-4:30pm. Please plan to attend. (CS –Mar 3)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

GRADE 9 MATH ENRICHMENT GROUP: Reminder of our meeting today at lunch in room 301.  We will be discussing and preparing for the second contest.  Please bring your lunch! (NR –Mar 3)

TRACK AND FIELD: Are you the next Kevin Smith (the track athlete) or Perdita Felicien?  Track season is around the corner and sign-ups are happening RIGHT NOW!  Please see Mrs. Galbraith in Room 305 everyday this week from 12:00 – 12:25 at lunch and get your name down for your events!   (MG –Mar 3)

YEARBOOK: Attention yearbook students! There are still some pages that need to be finished before our last deadline.  If you are able to help with these pages, please come to a meeting after school in room 103 on Tues. Mar 2, and/or Wed. Mar 3. It is also extremely important that any students who have taken photos for the yearbook this semester download their photos to the K drive BEFORE this meeting. (AH –Mar 3)

clip_image006ALL SEMSTER 1 POLICE SCIENCE STUDENTS! Our own School Resource Officer will be speaking during P. 4 Thursday March 4. An auxiliary officer will also be coming in as part of this presentation. This is a great opportunity to hear the female perspective of the job.  Interested students should see Mr. Prigent for an admit slip if they wish to attend. (DP –Mar 4)

STRATFORD 2010: Due to lack of interest, the Stratford trip will be cancelled.  We will try to re-order tickets in September so those who have made their deposit can hope that the trip will resume at that time.  If you are interested in the trip but don't yet have the money, please see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138.  The cost is $325.  If necessary, refunds will be given in September, 2010.  Thanks to all those who expressed interest in the trip -- it is a worthwhile experience! clip_image008LITERACY TEST PREPARATION: All grade 10 students in Ontario will be writing The Ontario Literacy Test on Thursday April 8. Successful completion of this test is a graduation requirement for all Ontario students.  Although many of you are preparing for the test at home, some students may be interested in a little extra individual help with the preparation here at school.  Literacy coaches are available before school, at lunch and after school to help with your preparation.  If you are interested in this extra support, please give your name to Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services. SHAKIN’ IT WITH SHAKESPEARE: The English classes will be gearing up for this contest in April.  Check out the BARD TROPHY in the first floor trophy case.  You just might see your name engraved on it! (JS –Mar 12)

PART-TIME WORK AVAILABLE: LF a job at our school?  Are you interested in working as a custodian, part-time on the weekends here at Mother Teresa High School?  Please see Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services for more information. (KW – Mar 3)

RANT LIKE RICK CONTEST: Memorial University is offering a grand prize valued at $10,000 for the top ranter! High School students are to develop and film their own rant about a topic that is important to them.  In addition to the grand prize, two runner-up prizes for a $2,250 tuition voucher will also be awarded.  Rant like Rick is open to grade 11 and 12 students currently enrolled in high school and who will be eligible to attend Memorial University in September 2010 or 2011.  The deadline for entries is Friday, March 19, 2010.  For more information on how to enter, including detailed rules and regulations, visit www.mun.ca/rant. VOLUNTEER AT QUEENSWAY CARLETON HOSPITAL: Become a volunteer at the Queensway Carleton Hospital during July and August.  Requirements for becoming a student volunteer are: must be 15 years of age by December 31, 2010 and have completed grade 9 by this summer.  You will need to attend an information session by April 9th.  Pick from the following dates: March 3, 15, 18, 23; April 7.  Most sessions start at 6pm.  See volunteer binder in Student Services for more information.
