Ski/Snowboard Club 2016 will run each Wednesday evening in February. Information Package and Application Form is available in the main office. Applications and payment are due on or before Tuesday, January 12th to room 213. Space may be limited. (SM Jan. 12)

Alpine Ski Team: Please be at school this Friday January 8 at or before 7 am to catch the bus to Mont Cascades. Don't be late! Our dry land practice this week will be Thursday January 7 after school in the weight room. All fees and permission forms must be handed in by Thursday to Mrs. Brady. (AB Feb. 18)

Homeroom Challenge:  Help the homeless with a “Clean” Start to the New Year.  Join us for the Shepherds of Good Hope Toiletries Collection. Over 6500 people in Ottawa experienced homelessness in 2014.  Almost 1000 16-25 years used a shelter in 2014.  Help those in need and bring the following items to your homeroom: Shampoo, Soap, Toothpaste, Lotion, Toilet paper, Kleenex, Deodorant, New Socks, New Underwear.  The homeroom with the most collected (by weight) by Friday, January 15th will win a Pizza Party! Update to Allerject Voluntary Recall Replacement Procedures: Important Allerject Information: Following the October 28, 2015 voluntary recall by Sanofi Canada of all lots of Allerject epinephrine auto-injectors and the announcement earlier this month that the stock of alternative epinephrine auto-injectors is now sufficient to replace all Allerject devices in Canada, we remind you of the following:

• Immediately return all Allerject devices to your local pharmacy.
• All Allerject epinephrine auto-injectors returned by patients to their pharmacist with an expiry date between October 2015 and December 2016 inclusively continue to be eligible for replacement at no cost to the patient.
• Please provide the school with a replacement (if you haven’t already done so). (MC Jan. 18)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Are you someone who likes a challenge?  Doing puzzles?  Solving problems?  Consider coming out and representing MT in the Annual OCSB Math Olympics!  Come by room 237 on Tuesday January 12 at lunch to try some sample tasks.  Math Olympics will take place on Tuesday January 26th.  Please see Mrs Chiasson or Mrs De Pippo if you have any questions.  (JD Jan. 12)

Reminder for Grade 8 After School Literacy: Our last class will be this Thursday, January 7th at the usual time and place. This is the make-up session we discussed, so please remind your parents and make any necessary arrangements. (AC Jan.7)

7-8 School Play: This year's school play is called Diary of a Wallflower. I'm looking for dedicated students who either have dramatic experience already or are interested in theatre. Athletes MUST be available for the West Tournament on February 22nd, 2015. GIRLS try-outs will take place Tuesday January 12^thfrom 3-4pm in the Caf Gym. BOYS try-outs will take place Wednesday January 13^th from 3-4pm in the Caf Gym. IMPORTANT: A first cut will be made after each first try-out and those who make the cut will be invited to a second co-ed try-out Thursday January 14^th from 3-4pm in the Caf. Writing Contest - Calling all poets and short story writers!  Carleton University's English Department is sponsoring a poetry and short fiction competition.  This year's theme is "Encounters with Technology".  First and second place finishers will have their work published.  As well, winners will receive cash prizes.  Register online.  Due date: February 19. Alpine Ski Team:  Due to the mild weather, Mt. St. Marie will not be able to accommodate us for our ski team training day on Dec. 17. We will try to re-schedule. Stay tuned. (AB Dec. 17)

There will be a bake sale for both lunches Friday, December 11^th, 2015 in front of the cafeteria to support the Outdoor Club. Make sure to bring some money and come and enjoy delicious treats. (MF Dec. 11)

Christmas Blessing Collection 2015. It's that wonderful time of the year when our homerooms are collecting money for food gift cards so we can distribute them to local families the Christmas. Homerooms should set a goal, and maybe even enter into a competition with another class to encourage some generosity this time of the year. Our collection finishes on Dec 16th. #mttitanpride. Hour of Code: The Learning Commons will be hosting Hour of Code participants Monday afternoon, all day Wednesday and all day Friday this week.  Please note that most of our mobile devices will be used for the workshops and will not be available for sign-out by students during these times.  Please plan accordingly.  We will also be closed for both lunches on Wednesday and 7/8 Lunch on Friday. The OCSB Choirs will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 14^th at 7:30 PM at St. Basil’s Church (Maitland at the 417).  The concert, “A Light Has Come” features the OCSB Children’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Boys Choir and guests.  Tickets are $15 at the door or $25, the Choir’s 25^th  Anniversary fundraiser ticket price.  Choristers are students from 36 schools across the Board. Of the 116 students in the choir, 18 attend schools in the Mother Teresa Family of Schools. (KW Dec. 14)

We need a minimum of four debaters to attend each meeting.  The mock debates are a great way to develop thinking and oral skills.  Plus, it's a lot of fun. November 2 resolution: This House would abolish grades and adopt a pass or fail educational system. (JS Dec. 14)

WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Christmas Blessing Collection 2015. It's that wonderful time of the year when our homerooms are collecting money for food gift cards so we can distribute them to local families the Christmas. Homerooms should set a goal, and maybe even enter into a competition with another class to encourage some generosity this time of the year. Our collection finishes on Dec 16th. #mttitanpride. Hour of Code: The Learning Commons will be hosting Hour of Code participants Monday afternoon, all day Wednesday and all day Friday this week.  Please note that most of our mobile devices will be used for the workshops and will not be available for sign-out by students during these times.  Please plan accordingly.  We will also be closed for both lunches on Wednesday and 7/8 Lunch on Friday. The OCSB Choirs will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 14^th at 7:30 PM at St. Basil’s Church (Maitland at the 417).  The concert, “A Light Has Come” features the OCSB Children’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Boys Choir and guests.  Tickets are $15 at the door or $25, the Choir’s 25^th  Anniversary fundraiser ticket price.  Choristers are students from 36 schools across the Board. Of the 116 students in the choir, 18 attend schools in the Mother Teresa Family of Schools. (KW Dec. 14)

Alpine Ski Team: Please pick up a permission form outside room 201.  Our first practice will be after school in the weight room on Wednesday November 24^th and then December 2^nd and December 9^th. (AB Dec. 9)

The Mayor's 15^th Annual Christmas Celebration taking place at Ottawa City Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th^th, 2015. Festivities will include skating on the Sens Rink of Dreams, horse-drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows.  Indoors, children can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and make a craft in Santa’s workshop.  There will also be live entertainment in Andrew Haydon Hall.

We are asking volunteers to arrive no than 12:30 p.m. at the Festival Control Boardroom (located on the 1^st floor of City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) to sign-in, get a briefing on how the event will unfold, have a bite to eat and get into position.  A light lunch will be provided to volunteers before the event – a vegetarian option will be available. Please be prepared to work until approximately 7:30 p.m. given that we will need help after the event to assist with clean up. WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Christmas Blessing Collection 2015. It's that wonderful time of the year when our homerooms are collecting money for food gift cards so we can distribute them to local families the Christmas. Homerooms should set a goal, and maybe even enter into a competition with another class to encourage some generosity this time of the year. Our collection finishes on Dec 16th. #mttitanpride. Students with overdue books and fines are asked to go to the Learning Commons after morning announcements. (MP Dec. 4)

Crêpes for Sale Thursday Morning: What's better than crêpes and hot chocolate? Nothing, that's what! On Thursday Morning, come to the atrium to start your day off right with crêpes at $3.50 + 0.50/topping and hot chocolate at $1.50 + 0.50/topping. Money derived from purchases will be used to fund the White Pine reading club's trip to Toronto! Bon appétit! (CA Dec. 3)

Lost and Found - Items will be on display starting Monday (November 30^th )  afternoon and continuing until Friday (December 4^th) afternoon. Any items not claimed by Friday afternoon will be donated to Dr. F. J School. (SS Dec. 4)

Tickets for Peter Pan will be sold at high school and 7/8 lunch today. Tickets are going fast. Get your ticket today! (MR Dec. 5)

The OCSB Choirs will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 14^th at 7:30 PM at St. Basil’s Church (Maitland at the 417).  The concert, “A Light Has Come” features the OCSB Children’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Boys Choir and guests.  Tickets are $15 at the door or $25, the Choir’s 25^th Anniversary fundraiser ticket price.  Choristers are students from 36 schools across the Board. Of the 116 students in the choir, 18 attend schools in the Mother Teresa Family of Schools. (KW Dec. 14)

Alpine Ski Team: Please pick up a permission form outside room 201.  Our first practice will be after school in the weight room on Wednesday November 24^th and then December 2^nd and December 9^th. (AB Dec. 9)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7-8 School Play: Attention all 7-8 students interested in being in this year's school play: Diary of a Wallflower by Craig Sodaro. Auditions are taking place on the week of December 14th. Sign up sheets and audition scripts will be posted on Mme Beraldin's door this Friday November 27th. Please spread the word. (JB Dec. 14)

Grade 7/8 Dance Club: If you love to dance and want to part of this year's 7/8 MT Dance Team, sign up outside of room 337.  We will be performing at various events throughout the school year. Dance style will be mainly jazz. Practices will be Day 1 at lunchtime in room 230. Practices begin Thursday, Dec. 3rd. (JC Dec. 3)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Math Enrichment: Reminder to all students involved in math enrichment that our next session is Wednesday December 2.  There are changes to the rooms.  Grade 9 is still in room 301.  Grade 10 and 11 are in room 303.  Grade 12 is in room 322.  Please bring your lunch and any other resources needed for this session. Debate Club: High school students are invited to attend any or all of the following Debate Club dates.  All meetings are until 4:15 and will take place in Rm. 138 after school.

Monday, December 14

We need a minimum of four debaters to attend each meeting.  The mock debates are a great way to develop thinking and oral skills.  Plus, it's a lot of fun. November 2 resolution: This House would abolish grades and adopt a pass or fail educational system. (JS Dec. 14)

Acadia University is offering a Parent and Student Night at the Hotel Indigo Ottawa, Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 7pm.  Register online at www.recruitment.acadiau.ca. (KW Dec.9)

MEI International Academy is having an information meeting at The Westin Ottawa - Alberta Room, 11 Colonel By Drive, Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 7pm to 9pm.  Students can take summer, semester and full year courses while gaining REAL-world experiences outside the four walls of a classroom. Scholarships are available for their 2016-2017 Big Year Program - up to $10,000. (KW Dec. 3)
Any grade 12 student applying for a Prestigious Award (scholarship) at a university for next year is required to submit their application to Student Services a minimum of 1 week before the due date. Please do not request letters of reference from a teacher until you have submitted your application to Student Services and spoken to your Guidance Counsellor. (JH Dec. 18)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

"Like working with children?  Need volunteer hours?  Enjoy Christmas activities?" Volunteers needed Saturday December 12 from 9-2. Mother Teresa will be hosting a Kids Christmas Party (for MT staff) and we are looking for volunteers to help set up/clean up, decorate cookies, do crafts, play games and face paint.  If you are interested please see Mrs. Chiasson (130), Mrs. DePippo (237) or Mrs. Cameron (337). St Andrew is hosting a Winter Wonderland Dance' on Friday December 4^th and we're looking for volunteers.  Time to be determined but likely 5:00-930 pm. Contact is Andreah at andreah1032@hotmail.com (TC Dec. 4)

LF Volunteers for the Manotick Family Christmas Party on Saturday, December 5th, 2015.  We need students from 1pm to 4:30pm to help with the 10 activity stations set up in the basement of the Manotick United Church.  It's a fun afternoon.  Please contact Donna Ouellette or Laurel Slattery at 613-692-4625 (Rideau Valley Child Care Centre). The Mayor's 15^th Annual Christmas Celebration taking place at Ottawa City Hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th^th, 2015. Festivities will include skating on the Sens Rink of Dreams, horse-drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate and roasting marshmallows.  Indoors, children can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and make a craft in Santa’s workshop.  There will also be live entertainment in Andrew Haydon Hall.

We are asking volunteers to arrive no than 12:30 p.m. at the Festival Control Boardroom (located on the 1^st floor of City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) to sign-in, get a briefing on how the event will unfold, have a bite to eat and get into position.  A light lunch will be provided to volunteers before the event – a vegetarian option will be available. Please be prepared to work until approximately 7:30 p.m. given that we will need help after the event to assist with clean up.
