Day 5 - Gr. 7 & 8 and Day 2 - H.S.

Open House: With the forecast calling for beautiful weather and the Senators having an evening off, why not come out to the Mother Teresa Education Week Open House on Thursday, May 3. There are lots of activities and displays to see. Come for dinner, BBQ opens at 5:00 p.m. and the action continues in and around the school until 7:30 p.m.

7/8 Duathlon Information: There is an mandatory meeting for all those who have signed up for the Mother Teresa Duathlon TODAY at the beginning of lunch (12:41 P.M.) in room 318. Student may continue to sign up for the Duathlon to be held on Wednesday, May 30th, 1:00 - 3: 00, at Mother Teresa School.

7/8 Games Room: 7/8 Teachers have been given this week's Titan Dollars for distribution. The Games room will be open Thursday during 7/8 Lunch for those wishing to use their Titan dollars or pay for pinball, foosball, air hockey and table tennis.

7-8 Badminton: Members of the 7-8 badminton team have practices on Thursday and Friday this week. .

Red Maple Club meets TODAY. Preparations will begin for our year end party.

Wonderland Trip: Those students interested in going on the Physics, Math & Business trip to Canada's Wonderland must return their forms to Mr. Miller before the week's end (Friday May 4th). If the interest for this trip is not demonstrated in sufficient numbers, the trip will be canceled.

Live It Up: Attention all members! Today is your chance to try Omnikin. We will meet in the Career Center at 11:45 to go over a few quick items, but we will then proceed to the back half of the caf for a game of Omnikin. For the rest of the school, stay tuned for your chance to play Omnikin!

Grads: Grads are reminded that Community Service Hour forms must be returned to Student Services ASAP. All potential grads need 40 hours of community service in order to receive a diploma. There are only 35 school days left before final exams. Get crackin’.

Community Service Opportunity: The Knights of Columbus Council 11271 of St. Patrick's Fallowfield parish are cleaning up along Jockvale Road this Saturday May 5, 2007. We would welcome up to 8 students who might need community volunteer time to help with this. The section of road is between Strandherd and Weybridge. We will meet in the parking lot of the Barrhaven United Church on Jockvale Rd. (near the railway tracks) at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. This should take 2 hours maximum. We supply gloves and trash bags. Students should dress for the weather conditions. Those interested can just show up on Saturday.

Reach For The Top: The winner of the VIXENS and the INTERGALACTIC WALRUSES will face the SHOULDA GRADS on Thursday to decide who will play in the GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP (against Kearney's undefeated FLYING MONKEYS). Location: Crazy Kitchen. Buzzer activation unfolds at 11:50 am.

Presentation: Renee Rathbone and Lauren Wong are presenting their findings from a day in Engineering at Carleton University. The presentation will take place TODAY during 7/8 lunch in room 211 (the Chemistry Lab). Future engineers are encouraged to attend...and bring your lunch.

MacSkimming Outdoor Science Centre: Gr. 7/8 students who have been given a permission form for the MacSkimming science excursion on May 1st, are reminded to return the bottom portion of the form and a $20 cheque to Mrs. McLaughlin in room 322 ASAP.

An Evening of the Arts: Showcasing Grade 7 and 8 Talent: Don't forget to get your tickets for the big event this Friday Night at 7:00 p.m. The evening includes art displays, band performances, dance performances and two dramatic presentations. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the door (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) or during 7/8 homeroom.

She is coming to Ottawa on Thursday, April 12, in the evening and is planning to do some interviews so people don't have to drive to Eganville. Youth Action Day: Be sure to mark Saturday, May 5, 2007 on your calendar, because co-hosts Volunteer Ottawa and United Way/Centraide Ottawa invite you to the biggest Youth Action Day ever seen in the city! Once again this year, hundreds of youths between the ages of 13-18 will volunteer their time and help out their community! Community organizations around Ottawa will be requesting volunteers to assist with all kinds of projects, from serving meals to seniors, to painting a youth centre, to fixing up a park. This event is a great opportunity to get involved in your community while receiving 8 hours towards your required 40 of community involvement.


How to Participate:

Lenten Regulations for Fasting and Abstinence

In the Roman rite, Ash Wednesday and, Good Friday (which is tomorrow) are days of fasting and of abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence from meat binds those who are 14 and older; the law of fasting binds those from 18-59.

Christian fasting obtains its full meaning when we deprive ourselves of food in order in order to be more open for prayer, to share more in the suffering of those who are starving, and to save money to give to the poor. Fasting is a penitential discipline intended to open our hearts to God and others, a means of purification and spiritual liberation, and a witness to the depth of our faith.” (Canadian Catholic Bishops)

Student Travel: A representative from Student Travel Society (STS) will be here at MTHS on Tuesday, April 10 from 11:40 - 12:25 in the Atrium to showcase some of their travel opportunities for students. Students will be able to experience different parts of the world first hand and in a manner that can be adapted to any curriculum. For all travelers, attending one of these tours will leave a very lasting impression and it will undoubtedly become an invaluable life experience. Youth Action Day: Be sure to mark Saturday, May 5, 2007 on your calendar, because co-hosts Volunteer Ottawa and United Way/Centraide Ottawa invite you to the biggest Youth Action Day ever seen in the city! Once again this year, hundreds of youths between the ages of 13-18 will volunteer their time and help out their community! Community organizations around Ottawa will be requesting volunteers to assist with all kinds of projects, from serving meals to seniors, to painting a youth centre, to fixing up a park. This event is a great opportunity to get involved in your community while receiving 8 hours towards your required 40 of community involvement.

How to Participate:

1. Get a team of friends together (aged 13 to 18)

2. Remember, each team requires a supervisor who is 18 or older. They could be a friend, family member, teacher, youth worker etc.

3. Visit the Youth Action Day website at http://www.youthactionjeunesse.ca.

7-8 Boys and Girls: 7-8 Boys and Girls wishing to tryout for the best sport of the year, Badminton, are asked to sign up in front of Mr. Bouchard and Mr. Quinn's Phys. Ed. office.

Red Maple Club: Regular club meeting is TODAY.

7/8 Girls Touch Football: Practices for the 7/8 girls Touch Football team will take place TODAY after school at 3:15pm sharp. Any girl unable to attend practice should speak with Ms. Brownrigg BEFORE the practice.

Library Notice: The library will be closed after school on Thursday, April 5th.

Do You Wanna Dance: For one time only, Dance Dance Revolution is back at Mother Teresa. TODAY in the Caf during both lunches, the Live It Up group will be having a free dance off. There are prizes to be won, so come on out and show off your moves!
