Day 2 - H.S. & Day 3 - Gr. 7 & 8

7/8 STUDENT COUNCIL: There will be a 7/8 Student Council meeting on Wednesday, January 23rd after school at 3:05 in the 7/8 Art Room. We will be making advertisements and decorations for the upcoming Saint Valentine's dance. This will be another chance to get your picture taken if you missed the group Yearbook photo taken on Friday.

7/8 BADMINTON: Try-outs for the 7-8 badminton team will be held this week. The boys’ tryout will be held on Wednesday from 3:10 to about 4:30 and the girls’ tryout will be held on Thursday from 3:10 to about 4:30. If you can't make it, please let Mr. Bouchard know as soon as possible.

RED MAPLE MEETING CHANGED: Pizza Party Plans....Presentation...Prizes...and Picture. The Red Maple Club will meet TODAY (not Wednesday) during junior lunch in the library seminar room. A group picture will be taken so bring your books and lunches and try to arrive by 12:45.

LIBRARY CLOSURES: The library will be closed after school on Wednesday, January 23 AND all morning on Friday, January 25th.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Please return/renew your library books before the exams, especially if the books are due next week.

YEARBOOK COMMITTEE: Reminder - Due to high school exams, the Yearbook Committee will be meeting TODAY after school in Room 103. Those working on layout/design are asked to attend. The Committee will not be meeting on Thursday.

VOLUNTEER HOURS: The Board Musical "Anne of Green Gables" is looking for volunteers during each show night to sell programs, greet guests, be ushers in the Theatre, sell food at the canteen, etc. For more information, students can contact Tammy Doyle at tammy.doyle!@ottawacatholicschools.ca or at MPB 613-825-7544. You will need to arrive by 6:45 pm and would be able to leave after the intermission - by 9:00 pm (approx time). You would earn 2 1/2 hours of volunteer hours per show you volunteer. The show runs February 14th - 17th and February 21 - 23rd.

DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM: Application forms are now available in Student Services. In-class lessons will be on Wednesdays, starting February 20th from 3:15pm - 5:45 pm, if we have enough students signing up for the course.

ATTENTION ALL GRADE 12 STUDENTS: If you were unable to pick up your grad proofs on January 17th, dont' worry, you can pick them up in Student Services.

REACH FOR THE TOP: Round Two continues TODAY as the THRESHOLD OF PAIN take on TY-PHO-ZEN for temporary trivia glory. As always, buzzers are activated at 11:50 am. The featured match-up on Wednesday JAN. 23 is no other than I AM SPARTACUS versus COUNCIL OF DOOM. Tourney participants should be aware that following this game there will be a short exam recess. Reach will be back in February; see Room 200 schedule for details.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: The deadline for application to Ontario Colleges is February 1. Students can make their application, online, at www.ontariocolleges.ca. Do not wait until the last day (you are in exams at the end of the month!). An information sheet explaining the application process can be found on the school web site at www.mths.ca under NEWS and DOCS – GRADS.

ITALY TRIP: There will be a meeting for all students interested in going on the trip to Italy in November 2008. Stop by room 212 at noon on Wednesday to get all the details.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: It's NGHA's annual Hockey tournament Feb.1-3 and we need volunteers for the Silent auction table, 50/50 draw, Raffle table etc….The volunteer time would be spent at either the Nepean Sportsplex or the Walter Baker Center. It can be as small as a 2 hour block. Call Elena at 823-4555.

STRATFORD FESTIVAL 2008: We are planning our 7th annual trip to Stratford Ontario from Tuesday, October 14-Thursday October 16, 2008. This three day trip will be of particular interest to next year's English, Music and Drama students because the season's playbill is amazing. Students in grades 8-11 this year are able to participate. We have secured tickets for two Shakespearean plays: Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet as well as two musicals: The Music Man and Cabaret. Workshops, discussions, and tours are also part of this experience. All grade 9 students study Romeo & Juliet and grade 12 students study Hamlet. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see the drama live? You will find the cost of this trip very reasonable. Please sign up and pick up a form outside room 201or see Mrs. Brady for details.

Prizes include ten $5 gift cards for Indigo in Barrhaven for the ten runners up. The grand prize of a magazine subscription will be awarded to the class of the winning submission. The Irish Experience - summer credit programs in Ireland - Earn Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits in English and History. The credits are sponsored by the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

NEW PROGRAM AT ALGONQUIN COLLEGE: Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley (Pembroke Campus) is launching a new Golf and Ski Operations Management Program in Fall 2008. They have launched a new web site that provides additional information about the program. It is the only program in Canada that combines golf and ski operations, it will train graduates for a full-time career.
