WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Scholastic Book Fair has arrived! Every year Scholastic provides several amazing books and gifts to purchase in our “bookstore” (Learning Commons Seminar Room). Both high school and intermediate students are welcome to drop by before, after school, or during the lunch hour. All funds raised are used to buy literacy resources for our Learning Commons. Remembrance Day Services at St. Mother Teresa Catholic H.S. on Friday, November 10th:
Many of the staff and students at St. Mother Teresa are busy preparing for our Remembrance Day Services on Nov. 10th. We would like to invite any parents/friends who are serving or have served in the military/ police or other service fields.  All that is required is that you come in uniform and you will be seated at the front of the gymnasium.  The Services are scheduled for 9 am and approximately 10 am.  You have the option of staying for one or both Services.  There is a reception in the Learning Commons (library) following the second Service.  Please contact Jacqueline Kinloch by e-mail if you are able to attend and/or if you have any questions.

TITANWEAR ORDERING TIME HAS ARRIVED.  If you would like to be the first to wear St. Mother Teresa Titanwear please let your parent know that they can order on line.  The flyer and the link is on the school website under "Our School" at the bottom of the page.  You can come to room 216 any time to try on anything to figure out your size.  Grade 7/8's ..... come on up on your lunch if you like. St. Mother Teresa String Ensemble: Do you play a string instrument? Would you like to be a part of St. Mother Teresa's new string ensemble? All students grade 7 to 12 are welcome to join. Please see Mr. Card in room 120. (IC Nov. 17)

Looking for Math Enrichment opportunities in our community? The Learning Commons' clubs have begun, but new members are always welcome. The Makerspace and Red Maple book clubs start at the beginning of the lunch period and students are asked to bring their lunches with them. 
·   The Makerspace club is a fun club that includes crafts, Lego, knitting and so much more. This club will meet on Tuesdays for Grade 7s and Thursdays for Grade 8s. 
·   Our Red Maple book club will meet every Friday at lunch. This year's club will be reading up to 10 Canadian Fiction selections selected specifically for students in grades 7 and 8. The titles have been announced and will be discussed at this week's meeting. 
The Learning Commons lunch passes: Please stop at the Learning Commons' main desk, before 8:35am, and sign out your pass for the day.

HS SWIM TEAM - Any HS students interested in joining the St. Mother Teresa Swim Team are invited to an important information meeting at the beginning of lunch on Friday, November 3rd in room 310. Any questions can be answered by Madame Boily in room 314 or Mr. Coté in room 310. (BB Nov. 3)

SKI SKI SKI - The skiing season will soon be on us and this year we are planning a trip to Smugglers Notch in Vermont. If you are interested in the coming on the trip come to room 103 on Thursday, November 2nd at Lunchtime.  (AP Nov. 2)

SKI TEAM - All those in joining the ski team are invited to a meeting in room 103 on Thursday, November 2nd at lunchtime. No experience is necessary as they have novice races but you must be comfortable on a black run. (AP Nov. 2)

H.S. Sports: Attention all male hockey players in grades 9-12.  This years Varsity Boys’ Hockey Team try-outs are on November 1st (Sportsplex 2 3:30-4:30) and November 2nd(Sportsplex 2 3:30-4:30). 
This is high paced, full contact, OFSAA Division hockey.  Full equipment is mandatory and please have one light and one dark jersey available.  Any questions can be answered by Mr. Gervasi in room 309. (MG Nov. 2)

HS Girls Hockey Tryouts: Any High School girls interested in trying out for the hockey team are invited to the following tryouts. Please get a permission form from room 110 and return it prior to tryouts. See Mr Pelletier if you have any questions.

Looking for student volunteers (video recording and editing, social media; stage assistant, participants).  Youth night for mental health on November 4, 2017 from 7 to 9pm at Barrhaven United Church. The event includes a live concert and messages from mental health advocates, such as Neida Mercedes founder of the Faith and Mind Ministry (FAMM) an interdenominational group dedicated to mental health awareness.  Students may sign in by messaging FAMM (Neida Mercedes) on FB @Faith And Mind Ministry or by texting 613 220 2893. Ontario Colleges Application System is now open! Check your student email for the Ontario College Application Information. Deadline to Apply for equal consideration is Feb 1, 2018. (TC Nov. 23)

Grade 12s, don't miss this opportunity to visit Algonquin College on Tuesday, November 7th. We have booked a bus and it will leave SMT at 8:30 and return for afternoon classes. Pick up a permission form in student services and return it ASAP as it is first come, first served. (We will open it up to grade 11 students on Oct 3rd). There is no cost to the student. (TC Nov. 6)

Graduation portraits are taking place Monday, November 13 - November 17, 2017.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LF Volunteers: We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to man our kettles at over 35 locations across Ottawa. Our campaign runs from November 23rd to December 23rd, operating every day with the exception of Sundays. All money raised stays in the city of Ottawa to support various programs of the Salvation Army. Evenings and Saturdays are available for those interested in hours. Please note that students over the age of 16 are able to attend the kettle alone, under that age they must be accompanied by an adult. Register online:  www.salvationarmyottawa.ca/kettlevolunteer. LF Volunteers: If you are looking to do something in the school at senior lunch time, please consider helping out with the transformation of milk bags into sitting mats in the Career Center just off of Student Services.  Bring your lunch!

Dual Credit: Registration is open for semester 2 Dual credit courses at Algonquin College. The deadline to apply is Oct 31st. This is a great opportunity for students in grades 11 and 12, Pop by Student Services to pick up more information about Algonquin College's Dual Credit program. Earn 1 high school credit and 1 college credit at the same time! A variety of courses are being offered: Graphic Design, ECE, Chef Training, Trades Exploration, Career and College Success, Tourism, Canadian Music Industry, Accounting, Political Science, Logical and Critical Thinking, Math for Powerline Technicians and Aboriginal Studies.
