HS: Day 1


WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Learning Commons: The Learning Commons will be CLOSED during HS lunch today for the grade 7&8 Resiliency Day. (AH Oct. 14)

Learning Commons: Students MUST have their student cards with them in order to check out materials (book, iPads, Chromebooks, etc.). This will help speed up the check out process for everyone, especially during busy times.  Students who do not have a student card will need to log in to my.mths.ca, print off a paper copy with their student number and bar code, and bring this paper with them to the LC when checking out materials. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7/8 Boys Volleyball: The 7/8 Boys volleyball team will have practices Thursday and Friday after school this week from 3-4pm in the caf. gym. (KH Oct. 14)

Grade 7/8 Students are invited to visit the Learning Commons before school. Lunch passes have to be signed out every day.
Days for Gr.7/8 will alternate:
Mondays:  Gr.7/8 
Wednesdays & Fridays:  Gr. 7 only
Tuesdays & Thursdays: Gr.8 only
 Red Maple (the Grade 7/8 Book Club) is coming soon. Please sign up in the Learning Commons.

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Wrestling - There will be an information meeting for all high school students interested in joining the H.S. Wrestling team on Wednesday, October 19th during H.S. lunch in Room 333. (JL Oct. 19) 

Perfect Pitch Competition Workshop - Do you plan to compete in the annual High School Perfect Pitch Competition at Ottawa University this year? (Spring 2017)  The Business Department will be hosting workshops this Friday, October 14th during periods 1, 2, and 3.  If you are not currently taking a business class but wish to attend, please visit room 213 or room 216 for more info. During the lunch period, no High School student is permitted on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the new wing which is the 7/8 classroom areas. (MK)

H.S Boys' Varsity Hockey try-outs: will take place on November 8th @ Nepean Sportsplex "2" from 3:30-4:30 and November 10 @ Walter Baker "B" from 3:30-4:30.  This is Contact Hockey so Full equipment is needed, please make sure that you have a light and dark jersey with you.  See Mr. Gervasi in room 309 for more details. Business Club Meeting - Next meeting is Monday October 17th at 11:30 in room 213.  New members welcome! (SM Oct. 17)

Curling Team:  All students (boys and girls) interested in participating in the curling team are invited to a meeting on Tuesday, October 18th. The meeting will take place in room 301 at the beginning of lunch.  Experience is helpful, but not mandatory. (NR Oct. 18)

High School students will have an opportunity to buy out of class to see our Football team play on Friday, Oct. 14 at 1:30. Students can pay $2.00 to buy out of class at lunch time only in the Atrium from Tuesday to Friday. Students are expected to go to period 3 class on Friday and will then be issued a bracelet to leave class at 1:30 if they have paid. (AC Oct. 14)

Do you have basketball score keeping experience? Do you need community service hours? Mr. Rowley is looking for FOUR basketball score keeping experienced students to volunteer to score keep for the Senior Boys' basketball season. This will require 5 games after school at 4:00 pm between December and February and 3 tournament games on the weekend of January 12-14 2017 - earn up to 20 community service hours - if experienced and interested see Mr. Rowley in Room 136. BOSTON ALMOST SOLD OUT!!  4 SPOTS REMAINING.  Join the MT and St. Joes students going to Boston in  May.  What will we do??  How about a tour of Fenway Park before we see a game vs. the Baltimore Orioles.  How about a tour of Harvard University.  Ever heard of the Blue Man Group??  You will have after the trip.  Oh yeah... and a tour of Gillette Stadium (home of the Patriots) and a tour of Boston Gardens (home of the Bruins and the Celtics).  All of this plus the New England Aquarium, the Freedom Trail, Ben and Jerry''s Ice cream factory and shopping.  Come see Mr. Baldin in room 216 to get an itinerary to discuss with your parents. School Literacy Test: All students at MTHS eligible to write (Grade 10) or rewrite (Grade 11/12) the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test) will have an opportunity to write this test on October 20, 2016 which will be totally online.  Please visit the website listed here for practice of the online version of the test. The STUDENT SERVICES WEBSITE at ss.mths.ca is set up as an information tool, including information about: Community Service Hours Opportunities, Courses, Careers, Graduation, Scholarships, etc.

Driver Education Fall Program registration runs from today until October 19th.
Please pick up your forms from Student Services.  Classes are scheduled for Wednesdays,
3:15pm to 6:00pm starting October 25th. Students must be at least 16yrs old and have a G1 license prior to October 24th. (KW Oct. 19)

The Irish Experience Summer Programs in Ireland.  27 days in duration and offers 110 hours of instructional time to fulfill requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum requirements. Grade 11 English (ENG3U),Grade 12 English (ENG4U),Grade 12 English (ENG4C)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

St Luke's is holding a Halloween Spooktacular event on Fri Oct 28th from 5-9 pm. Looking for highschool students who need volunteer hours. Below is a description of the event:  Fri Oct 28th. Set up 4-5pm. Event 5-9pm. Clean up after. We need your help setting up tables, chairs, decorations, a haunted house, games and raffle tables. We also need volunteers to run the games and raffle tables with adult help, and help with clean up afterwards. Embassy Chef Challenge: Thursday, November 3rd from 5:00-10:00pm International Chefs are competing in a competition with over 400 guests. They need volunteers to help clear the dishes. A pizza dinner will be provided for volunteers. See Mr. Hallarn if you are interested. (JH Oct. 21)

Watson’s Mill in Manotick wants Volunteers for their Haunt Nights. They are looking for actors and actresses who would like to take on main roles, as well as hair and make-up artists. You will be needed for the evenings of October 20th, 21st, and 22nd from 5pm to 10pm. You must be 14 or older and will need parental consent.  Arrive wearing a base layer of stretchy, comfy black clothing.  Dress warmly.  Make sure you have transportation. You will be given pizza and soft drinks.  Groups of friends can volunteer together.  You don't have to do all three nights.  Please email: programs@watsonsmill.com (KW Oct. 19)
