7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
Grade 7/8 Students are invited to visit the Learning
Commons before school. Lunch passes have to be signed
out every day.
Days for Gr.7/8 will alternate:
Mondays: Gr.7/8
Wednesdays & Fridays: Gr. 7 only
Tuesdays & Thursdays: Gr.8 only
Red
Maple (the Grade 7/8 Book Club) is coming soon. Please
sign up in the Learning Commons.
7/8 Boys Volleyball: Any 7
or 8 boy wishing to try out for the boys volleyball team is asked to sign up
outside Madame Haucke's room (238). The first tryout will be Thursday, September 29th after school from 3-4 in the gym. (KH Sept. 29)
Boys Flag Rugby:
practice will take place on Friday, Sept. 23rd, Monday, Sept. 26th and Friday, Sept. 30th from 3:00-4:00pm. Practice will be re-scheduled in the
event of rain. Please bring cleats and water. (JD Sept. 30)
Girls 7/8 Rugby:
Practice will be Wednesday,
September 28th and Thursday, September 29th from 3-4pm. (SM Sept. 29)
7/8 Girls Volleyball: There will be an
important tryout for any girls in grade 7 and 8 wishing to be part of the
Volleyball team Monday, September 26th after school (3:00-4:00) as well as Thursday,
September, 29th and Friday, September 30th. Be on time and ready to go! (MC Sept. 30)
7/8 Soccer: The 7 and 8 soccer practice
scheduled for tonight is
cancelled for the boys and girls. The
next practice will be Tuesday,

NEW this year - Business Club!!! Do you believe Business and
Leadership skills are important for future success? Do you believe
Business can be a Force of Good in the community? Practical skills, leadership
skills, expanding networks, and building a community are just a few of the
great experiences in store for you in the brand new MT Business Club. Pop by
room 213 on either Wednesday, September 28th or Friday September 30th
for a brief info session from 11:30 to 11:45 am. Hope to see you there! (SM

Literacy Test: All students at MTHS eligible to write (Grade
10) or rewrite (Grade 11/12) the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test)
will have an opportunity to write this test on October 20, 2016 which
will be totally online. Please visit the website listed here for practice
of the online version of the test. Students can get familiar with the test

Peer Helpers: There will be an important meeting on Tuesday, Sept.
27th at lunch in room 310 for all peer helpers. We will discuss
your first classroom visits and get ready for the second classroom visit. (CR Sept. 27)

York Trip: LAST CHANCE to be a part of
this year's New York City Trip is fast approaching! Forms and first
non-refundable payments are due on Friday, September 30th 2016 by 9:00 AM to Mr. Rowley in Room 136 - after

The STUDENT SERVICES
WEBSITE at ss.mths.ca is set up as an information tool, including
information about: Community Service Hours Opportunities, Courses, Careers,
Graduation, Scholarships, etc.
The MT Milk Bags Club will be running again this year. It's an easy way
to get 30 minutes of community service right here at the school. The Club will
meet on Wednesdays, 11:30am to noon, in the Career Centre.

information, please see Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services. It's time to turn
those milk bags into beautiful, colourful, comfy sleeping mats! (KW Sept. 30)
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Embassy Chef Challenge: Thursday Nov 3 from 5:00-10:00pm International
Chefs are competing in a competition with over 400 guests. They need
volunteers to help clear the dishes. A pizza dinner will be provided for
volunteers. See Mr. Hallarn if you

Volunteers Needed: Complete volunteer hours and raise money for Breast
Cancer Research. October 1 & 2nd, 2016 Select a time and location of

Watson’s Mill in
Manotick wants Volunteers for their Haunt Nights. They are looking for actors and
actresses who would like to take on main roles, as well as hair and make-up
artists. You will be needed for the evenings of October 20th,
21st, and 22nd from 5pm to 10pm. You must be 14 or older and will need parental
consent. Arrive wearing a base layer of stretchy, comfy black
clothing. Dress warmly. Make sure you have transportation. You will
be given pizza and soft drinks. Groups of friends can volunteer
