WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
 April is National Poetry Month and there will be a poetry display in the Learning Commons. We’d like you to be part of the display. Simply drop off a copy of your poem in the Learning Commons and please stop by if you have any questions. (MP April 30)
Ski Club Refunds: All online refunds were done as of Friday, March 7th and should be in accounts by this week. People who paid by cash or cheque can expect their cheques to be ready in main office for pick-up by Monday, March 21st. Please remind your child to pick-up cheques!
A reminder to parents to please not do any pick-ups (or have cars) in the traffic circle between 2:45-3:05pm. We appreciate your understanding to this matter. (MC)
A reminder that the visitor parking spaces at the front of the building are for those visiting our school, they are not intended for students or staff. (MK April 30)

Learning Commons Seminar Room - When not booked by a class, The Learning Commons Seminar Room will be a designated quiet study space.

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7/8 School Play: There will be an important meeting after school on the stage on Tuesday, April 12th from 3:00-4:15pm. (LL April 12)

Grade 8 Students Interested in Tackle Football: There will be a meeting on Monday, April 11th  during 7/8 lunch in room 119 for all Grade 8 students interested in playing high school tackle football next year.

7&8 Swim Team Try-outs - Those interested in joining the 7&8 swim team are asked to sign up on a list outside Mlle Pendergest's room (234).  Try-outs will be on held on April 12th from 3:15-4:15pm at Minto Recreation Complex (3500 Cambrian Rd). Attendance is mandatory at the try-out to be considered for the team. (CP & BL April 12)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Shakespeare 400: As most of you know, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth and death is April 23.  The English Department has BIG plans for April and May.  To kick things off, we invite students to participate in the following activities:
1)  Mural Design submission:  
  • Choose a space in the first floor English/Resource wing
  • Measure the space
  • Provide a detailed ORIGINAL coloured drawing of your mural with a Shakespearean theme.
  • Due:  April 29, 2016 to Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138
2)  Spoken Word Showcase:
  • Write a 1-2 minute spoken word poem on a current theme of interest to high school students (appropriate language, please)
  • Perform the spoken word poem for a small audience
  • Perform the poem again during Education Week (May 6)
Due for first performance:  April 29 with Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 after school. Please drop by Rm 138 if you have questions or need suggestions! (JS April 29)
Girls Softball:  All girls, from grade 9 to 12, interested in playing in the city softball tournament are asked to come to a very important planning meeting on Thursday, April 14th.  The meeting will be in room 301 at the beginning of lunch.  Please see Mrs. Robinson if you are unable to attend the meeting or if you have any questions. Any grade 9-10 girl interested in trying-out for the Junior Girls Soccer Team is asked to meet this THURSDAY (April 7th) in the woodfloor gym from 3-4:30pm.  Spread the word! (SM April 7)
Lights, Camera.....Dance! Mother Teresa’s semi-formal Oscar-themed dance is rolling out the red carpet on the evening of Thursday, April 21st. Be sure to vote for the awards nominees on my.mths.ca before April 8th. Tickets will be on sale for $10.00 at High School lunch the week of April 11th -14th. (EB April 14)
 High School Football: There will be a meeting on Monday, April 11th at the beginning of HS lunch in room 119 for all high school students interested in playing tackle football next year. (AC April 11)

Equity and Inclusion: Equity is much different than equality. In fact, some of us see it as "unfair" that certain people get perks; In fact, they are getting what they need to be as successful as everyone else. Come discuss these issues within our school and our community and more in room 310, next Monday, April 11th at lunch.

Attention all Grade 11 and 12 students attending the History Trip to Toronto, there is an important meeting Thursday, April 7th at lunch in room 304.  Room assignments and logistics will be discussed for the trip.  If you are not able to attend, please see Mrs. Galbraith this week to receive the information. Any high school girls interested in playing touch football are asked to sign up outside room 110. Please indicate your preferred position as defence, offence, or quarterback. (MP April 7)
Jr. Girls Soccer try-outs (grade 9 and 10) will be held *Wednesday April 6th and *Thursday April 7th from 3-4 at MT (Field located across the street from the front of the building, beside the baseball diamond).  Full soccer gear is required, please see Mr. Gervasi in room 309 for more details. *Weather Depending, check announcements regularly. Would you like to BE YOUR OWN BOSS? ...start your own summer business?  Applications are currently being accepted for the Government of Ontario - Summer Company Program which provides start-up money to kick-off a new summer business plus advice and mentorship from local business leaders to help get the business up and running. $3000 Grants available...  “Grant” means you don't have to pay it back!!!!! Summer Job and Volunteer Opportunities for students at Waupoos Family Farm.
Come see information sheet in Student Services for job descriptions. Summer volunteer opportunities include assisting with programming, cottage clean-up, laundry, animal care, gardening, weeding, painting, crafts, outdoor games, etc. Mondays to Saturdays available.  Summer volunteers are encouraged to participate one day per week, for 6 to 8 weeks.  Interview and police check required. The Daffodil Gala which is a charity event taking place at the Ottawa St. Anthony’s Soccer Italia Soccer Club (523 St. Anthony Street) in support of the Canadian Cancer Society is looking for student volunteers to support the committee on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Further information can be found at: www.daffodilgala.ca .Please note that we will require confirmation by noon March 23rdfor those who are interested and available to commit their time.  You will need to attend a brief (1.5 hours) orientation session on Friday, April 8th, 2016 at the Ottawa St. Anthony’s Soccer Italia Soccer Club. You need to arrive at 4:00pm on Saturday, April 9th and volunteer through to midnight. Dress is semi-formal/business casual - white shirt with dark pants or skirt (no tights please). LF Voluneteers for Run for Reach: We are pleased to invite your school to participate in the 31st annual Run for Reach, taking place on Sunday April 10, 2016 at City Hall. We would like to offer your students a unique and exciting opportunity to obtain their volunteer credits for their high school diploma. Volunteer positions include Set Up / Tear Down, Information Booth, On Route – barricades & water and more. Bands, duos and trios are also invited to play music for the participants and spectators along the Rideau Canal. By volunteering on race day, students will have the chance to win a great prize in our Volunteer Appreciation Raffle. LF Volunteers for CN Cycle for CHEO: On Sunday, May 1, 2016 we are holding our annual CN Cycle for CHEO, the hospital’s largest pediatric cancer fundraising event which last year raised over $942,000 for CHEO.  Funds raised are used to support lifesaving cancer research and treatment at CHEO.  This fun, non-competitive event offers a wide range of cycling (15K, 35K, 70K) and walking (2K, 5K) routes for people of all ages and abilities.  In order to make this a safe and enjoyable event, we need many volunteers especially Route Assistants!  Please log on to www.cncycle.ca , check out the position descriptions and sign up today!  You will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail when you register on-line, confirming the time and area for
