7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS 
ATTENTION GRADE 7/8 BOYS TOUCH FOOTBALL PLAYERS: Team tryouts are being held this Wednesday (May 2) and Thursday (May 3) after school from 3:05 to 4:15. Please meet outside at the back doors, changed and ready to go! (AO –May 3)
7/8 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL INTRAMURAL SIGN-UPS THIS WEEK!!! Any 7/8 student interested in playing 3-on-3 Basketball at lunch is encouraged to sign their team up this week, in the caf gym at lunch time. There will be 2 divisions (Competitive division/Recreational Division). Each team can have a maximum of 5 players, and the entry fee is 1 dollar per team. (TQ –May 3)
HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
M.T.S.A.I.D: There will be an important MTSAID meeting on Thursday May 3rd at the beginning of lunch in room 326. (MK –May 3)
BLOOD DONOR CLINIC: The annual blood donor clinic will be running at MT on Friday May 4th.
· Grade 11 & 12 homeroom teachers have been given information about the clinic. Students may sign up through their homeroom teacher (minimum age is 17 years). Please see Mrs McLaughlin in room 130 if you do not have a homeroom but are interested in donating blood. (DM –May 3)
FOOTBALL MEETING: There will be an important meeting for all high school students interested in playing football next year on Friday, May 4 in room 119 at 11:30. (AC –May 4)
NEW YORK CITY TRIP: There will be a MANDATORY meeting for all those students going on next week’s New York City trip Friday, May 4th 2012 at the start of lunch in Room 136. (MR –May 4)

A REMINDER ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS! Please keep in mind that The Ministry of Education has developed a list of activities that may not be chosen as community involvement activities. This has been coming up lately and so we remind you that one of the defined ineligible activities is an “activity that takes place during the time allotted for the instructional program on a school day”. (However, an activity that takes place during the student’s lunch breaks or “spare” periods is permissible). Please make sure you are scheduling community service activities OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: www.volunteerottawa.ca/youth is a new website geared towards students volunteering in the Ottawa area and accumulating their 40 hours. Click the GO! Volunteer tab to search for Volunteer opportunities. There are numerous volunteer opportunities during the school year. At times, there are too many to post in the written announcements. We ask that you make it a habit to stop in to Student Services and check out what is available. (JH –May 4)
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS - FACE PAINTING: Approximately 4 hours – this Saturday, May 5th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm during the Charity BBQ at the M&M Meat Shops in Barrhaven. This is an event that Diana Devine has been doing for the past 6 years to raise money for Threads of Life, who is a workplace tragedy and support organization that provides help and support to families who have had a family member killed in workplace accidents. LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR PIERRE ELLIOTT TRUDEAU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PICNIC:
Number of spots available: 30. Date: June 12th. Hours: 4-9pm. Location: Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School, Longfields Drive, Barrhaven. THE CHEO FOUNDATION has additional volunteer positions which we would like to offer to students. The CN Cycle event held on May 6th, is in need of 100 volunteers to fill our Route Assistant’s position. See information in Student Services. (KW –May 4)
JOSTEN’S RINGS: A reminder that Josten's is here on Monday, May 7th and Tuesday, May 8th during senior lunch break in the atrium. Did you know that you can design your ring at jostens.com? Try it, it’s fun. Bring your $60 deposit on order day! Grade 11 students are encouraged to pick up a leaflet in Student Services. You can order now and receive your ring in the fall. (KW –May 8)
CAN YOU TIE A KNOT? A reminder to anyone who needs community service hours to come to the library (The Learning Commons) on Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. If you can tie a knot, you can help your community. It's easy and fun. See Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services for more details. (KW –May 11)
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Patricia Lavergne, Store Manager at the Merivale Road Running Room, is looking to recruit student volunteers to help set up the water station and hand out water cups for marathon participants on Sunday, May 27th from 5:30 am to 2pm. More specific information (exact location of water station, contact info) will be sent to those who reply but here are a few details so students know what they are expected to do:
What students can do:
1. Send an e-mail to merivaleroad@runningroom.com and include "NCM Water Station Volunteer" in the subject line
2. Arrive at the Tunney's Pasture water station location on time ready to help from5:30 am until 2:00 pm.
3. Bring hockey sticks to flick water cups off the road!
4. Bring volunteer hours forms to be signed upon completion of volunteer hours.
5. Sunscreen and comfortable shoes~no rest on marathon day! (KW –May 11)
SUMMER - DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM: Registration forms are now available in Student Services. Registration runs from May 1st until June 22nd. Locations include All Saints HS, Sacred Heart HS, St. Joseph HS, St. Peter HS and St. Pius X HS. The driver education program combines in-class, at-home and in-car instruction in preparation for the Ontario G2 Driver's Test. (KW –May 31)
SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION: Forms are available in Student Services and they must be signed by a Guidance Counsellor
1) OTTAWA CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 25th. Pre-register from May 1st up until June 22nd, 2012 in Student Services. After June 22nd, registration takes place at summer school locations on Tuesday, July 3rd, 9am to 2pm.
2) OTTAWA CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD. SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 27th. Registration May 1st - June 8th. Daytime registration is from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Albert Street Education Centre, 440 Albert Street. Evening registration at the high school of your course choice; May 15th (6pm to 7:30pm) at Sir Robert Borden and Longfields Davidson Heights Secondary School; Final Registration for Make-Up courses only is Wed June 27, 9:00am - 4:30pm or Thurs June 28, 9:00 - 7:00pm at 440 Albert Street (JH –Jun 8)
GRADE 12’s / GRADS 
GRADE 12 STUDENTS: Looking to finish community service hours with a lunchtime/after-school activity here at Mother Teresa High School? The Destination Employability Pathways (DEP) team is looking for students to help make jewellery to raise money for women’s charities. We will start with earrings and will make as many as possible so that we will be ready to sell them next Fall. Please see Mrs. O’Sullivan or Mrs. Rennick in room 320 to sign up for certain dates. Over the next 2 weeks, we will make jewellery in the Career Centre at lunch on the following dates: Tuesday May 1, Thursday May 3, Tuesday May 8 and Thursday May 10. (MO –May 3)
GRAD FEES: A reminder of the $75 grad fee to be submitted to Mrs McLaughlin in room 130 between April 23rd & May 3rd. This fee is for all costs associated with grad day & commencement (eg. buses, breakfast, lunch, games, prizes, invitations, programs, decorations, school letters, school pins, diplomas, caps & gowns etc). Your height will be measured for your gown when you pay the $75 fee in room 130. (DM –May 3)
GRADE 12 STUDENTS ATTENDING CARLETON UNIVERSITY NEXT YEAR IN THE BA PROGRAM: ArtsOne is a specialized program at Carleton that offers students a chance to cluster courses together by a common theme. ATTENTION GRADUATES WHO ARE PLANNING TO TAKE A POST-SECONDARY PROGRAM IN THE DESIGN/ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES FIELD: Applications for the Edward J. Cuhaci & Associates Award are now available in Student Services. This is a $1000 scholarship and it will be awarded to two graduates in our school board. (RB –May 9)
WHO DO YOU SEE AS PROM KING & QUEEN THIS YEAR? Get those wheels spinning, as you will have to vote for who you think will represent Mother Teresa the best this graduating year! GRADE 12: REQUESTS FOR EXTRA GRADUATION CEREMONY TICKETS: A reminder that if you require more than the allocated 2 Grad tickets that you must sign up in Student Services no later than Friday May 11. OFFICER’S NOTES – News and Information from our School Resource Officer
GET TO KNOW YOUR SRO… The School Resource Officer Program has been in effect in Ottawa Schools for over 17 years and was established for officers to provide support for school staff, students and parents. SRO’s may be involved in delivering lectures on various topics as well as dealing with incidents which take place at school during school hours or those that have an effect on the overall school environment. When an SRO becomes involved in dealing with an incident it may result in a conversation, mediation or a referral to an intervention or diversion program, or a charge. The School Resource Officer mandate is to build healthy, trusting relationships with youth of all ages by becoming a familiar presence in their schools.
FREE MENTAL HEALTH INFO EVENING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 17: In partnership with the Youth Services Bureau and Le Centre Psychosocial, Ottawa Public Health is providing Parent Information Sessions on Mental Health throughout the community. A public health nurse will provide information about healthy adolescent development, warning signs of mental health problems and give practical advice to parents around communication, role modeling and resolving conflicts.
