ATTENTION GRADE 8 STUDENTS: The date of the 2012 Grade 8 Semi Formal is Friday, June 22nd from 6 - 9 PM. Mark your calendars! Assemblies will be held in the coming weeks for all grade 8 students regarding proper attire (dress code) and etiquette for this wonderful event. (AJ –Apr 5)
DANCE CLUB CANCELLED: GRADE 7/8 dance club will not take place Tuesday April 10 due to a staff meeting, however it will take place Wednesday April 11!
HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE SUMMER JOBS SERVICE (SJS) provides students with job search support and assistance with placement services from April 1st to August 31st.
• To be eligible, students must be returning to school in the fall, be between 15-30 years old and a resident of Ontario.

STUDENT SERVICES 

VICTORIA QUILTS: A reminder that the Victoria Quilts group will be meeting this Thursday, April 5th at 3PM in the Library (The Learning Commons). We need to complete 5 more quilts before the end of the school year. More volunteers are required to complete this task. All are welcome to join. It's easy, it's 1h30 a week, you get community service hours and you help out your community. See Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services for more information. (KW –Apr 5)
BABYSITTING COURSE: A babysitting course is being offered Saturday, April 18th at the Ruth E. Dickinson Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $50 which includes an information package and certificate. Bring a doll or a bear, a small blanket, a pencil, your lunch and healthy snacks. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Year End Dance. Friday, June 1st from 5pm to 9pm at St. Luke Elementary School. Volunteers are expected to show up at 4:30pm to help with set-up. Please see Mrs. Rundquist in Room 308 at our school for further information. (KW –Apr 20)
CN CYCLE FOR CHEO: Volunteer opportunities abound! Contact Mary Hawkeye at 613 738-4279, volunteers@cncycle.ca. The CN Cycle for CHEO is a fun, non-competitive event that offers a wide range of cycling and walking routes for people of all ages and abilities. All events begin and end at the Canadian War Museum with post-event activities taking place on the adjacent grounds at LeBreton Flats. Please join us on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 and help the staff at CHEO. Volunteer positions include bike parking assistant, bus supervisor, children's play area attendant, coffee service volunteers, food bbq, parking garage door attendant, registration assistant/ set up, rest stop volunteer, site clean up assistant, tear down volunteer, water assistant. Volunteer opportunities are either Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday. GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES: In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June. As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa:
· PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance. The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by Friday May 11th, 2012.
- GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 11, 2012.
Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Apr 13)
PROM TICKETS! Prom Tickets will be sold during lunch on April 11, 12, and 13. Tickets are $75. Cash or cheque will be accepted. Please make cheques payable to Mother Teresa High School. Please plan your tables in advance and purchase your tickets at the same time as the others at your table in order to secure your seats together. (SM –Apr 13)

OSTA CONSULTATION MEETINGS: The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority will be conducting public consultation on a number of proposed changes to transportation policies for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) and the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) in an effort to harmonize policies between the two school boards. There will be five sessions in total, occurring on the following dates:

April 3, 2012 – Confederation E.C. - 1645 Woodroffe Ave., Nepean

OFFICER’S NOTES – News and Information from our School Resource Officer
GET TO KNOW YOUR SRO… The School Resource Officer Program has been in effect in Ottawa Schools for over 17 years and was established for officers to provide support for school staff, students and parents. SRO’s may be involved in delivering lectures on various topics as well as dealing with incidents which take place at school during school hours or those that have an effect on the overall school environment. When an SRO becomes involved in dealing with an incident it may result in a conversation, mediation or a referral to an intervention or diversion program, or a charge. The School Resource Officer mandate is to build healthy, trusting relationships with youth of all ages by becoming a familiar presence in their schools.

What: A fund raiser that supports programs for Children living with cancer
When: Thursday April 26 during both lunch periods. *Pre registration is a must either on-line or in the Atrium on April 17, 18, 19
Where: MTHS Atrium
Who: Teams of six. Are you on a sports team or in a club? Why not put a team of six together or more teams of six and challenge other clubs or sports teams!
Each team needs to collect pledges of $300 (that's $50 each). All proceeds go directly to providing services for kids with cancer and beyond! (survivorship)
Why: Because our school cares! Because we can!
