H.S. REACH FOR THE TOP PLAYOFFS: The first round of the playoffs continues on Tuesday May 1st with Team Number Juan seeking to advance against TBA. Then, on Wednesday May 2nd, The Bananas will be taking on the formidable Uberspam. All the games start at 11:40 in room 307. Spectators welcome. (JS -May 1)
BLOOD DONOR CLINIC: The annual blood donor clinic will be running at MT on Friday May 4th.
· Canadian Blood Services will be at our school on Tues April 24th & Fri April 27th to run a "What's Your Type" activity in the atrium during lunch. Come by & find out what blood type you have. You can also get more information about the MT blood donor clinic (happening on May 4th) at this time. (DM –Apr 27)
· Grade 11 & 12 homeroom teachers have been given information about the clinic. Students may sign up through their homeroom teacher (minimum age is 17 years). Please see Mrs McLaughlin in room 130 if you do not have a homeroom but are interested in donating blood. (DM –May 3)

CN CYCLE FOR CHEO: Volunteer opportunities abound! Contact Mary Hawkeye at 613 738-4279, volunteers@cncycle.ca. The CN Cycle for CHEO is a fun, non-competitive event that offers a wide range of cycling and walking routes for people of all ages and abilities. All events begin and end at the Canadian War Museum with post-event activities taking place on the adjacent grounds at LeBreton Flats. Please join us on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 and help the staff at CHEO. Volunteer positions include bike parking assistant, bus supervisor, children's play area attendant, coffee service volunteers, food bbq, parking garage door attendant, registration assistant/ set up, rest stop volunteer, site clean up assistant, tear down volunteer, water assistant. Volunteer opportunities are either Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday. STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Patricia Lavergne, Store Manager at the Merivale Road Running Room, is looking to recruit student volunteers to help set up the water station and hand out water cups for marathon participants on Sunday, May 27th from 5:30 am to 2pm. More specific information (exact location of water station, contact info) will be sent to those who reply but here are a few details so students know what they are expected to do:
What students can do:
1. Send an e-mail to merivaleroad@runningroom.com and include "NCM Water Station Volunteer" in the subject line
2. Arrive at the Tunney's Pasture water station location on time ready to help from5:30 am until 2:00 pm.
3. Bring hockey sticks to flick water cups off the road!
4. Bring volunteer hours forms to be signed upon completion of volunteer hours.
5. Sunscreen and comfortable shoes~no rest on marathon day! (KW –May 11)
SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION: Forms are available in Student Services and they must be signed by a Guidance Counsellor
1) OTTAWA CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 25th. Pre-register from May 1st up until June 22nd, 2012 in Student Services. After June 22nd, registration takes place at summer school locations on Tuesday, July 3rd, 9am to 2pm.
2) OTTAWA CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD. SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 27th. Registration May 1st - June 8th. Daytime registration is from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Albert Street Education Centre, 440 Albert Street. Evening registration at the high school of your course choice; May 15th (6pm to 7:30pm) at Sir Robert Borden and Longfields Davidson Heights Secondary School; Final Registration for Make-Up courses only is Wed June 27, 9:00am - 4:30pm or Thurs June 28, 9:00 - 7:00pm at 440 Albert Street (JH –Jun 8)
GRADE 12’s / GRADS 
ALL GRADE 12 STUDENTS WITH PERIOD 2 SPARE please come to student services on Thursday, April 26th or Friday, April 27th during your spare to fill out an order form for your Grad Day food. Grad day is May 17th. Please see the Student Services website for full details. (ss.mths.ca). All grade 12 period 2 classes will be visited in the next few days to inform the students about Grad Day and to fill out your food order forms. If you are not in a grade 12 period 2 class, please come to student services to fill in your form. (TC –Apr 27)
GRADUATION INFO: The MT Graduation Ceremony for the class of 2012 will be held at Mother Teresa on Thursday June 28 at 1:00 pm. Each student will be given 2 tickets for guests. Students will be able to request extra tickets starting in May and will be informed whether they will get extra tickets, in early June. (JH –Apr 27)
ALL PROM DECOR PEOPLE WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK! We must finish the flowers (both small -50 and big -19). We must start the favor boxes (150 - we must make by folding, stamping and adding gems and 150 - just folding). Plus we have candy signs we must make. I will be in room 320 on Friday-April 27, Monday-April 30...(away Tuesday-May 1 and Wednesday-May 2)....back on Thursday-May 3...away Friday-May 4. I would like to be done by May 7 and allow you all 2 weeks to prepare yourself for Prom 2012. If you want me to sign off on any hour sheets please do it before May 7, 2012. (JR -Apr 30)
ATTENTION GRADUATES WHO WILL BE ATTENDING ALGONQUIN COLLEGE NEXT YEAR: Applications for the Sens Foundation Scholarship are now available in Student Services. This is a $1000 scholarship and it will be awarded to three graduates in our school board. Those of you who are enrolled in a full time program at Algonquin College are encouraged to apply. THE MOTHER TERESA SCHOOL LETTER: Each year at the Graduation Mass School Letters are awarded to a number of grade 12 students. The application is due to Student Services no later than noon on Tuesday May 1. Criteria and the application can be found on the Student Services website at ss.mths.ca under Grade 12 Information. GRADE 12 STUDENTS: Looking to finish community service hours with a lunchtime/after-school activity here at Mother Teresa High School? The Destination Employability Pathways (DEP) team is looking for students to help make jewellery to raise money for women’s charities. We will start with earrings and will make as many as possible so that we will be ready to sell them next Fall. Please see Mrs. O’Sullivan or Mrs. Rennick in room 320 to sign up for certain dates. Over the next 2 weeks, we will make jewellery in the Career Centre at lunch on the following dates: Tuesday May 1, Thursday May 2, Tuesday May 8 and Thursday May 10. (MO –May 3)
GRAD FEES: A reminder of the $75 grad fee to be submitted to Mrs McLaughlin in room 130 between April 23rd & May 3rd. This fee is for all costs associated with grad day & commencement (eg. buses, breakfast, lunch, games, prizes, invitations, programs, decorations, school letters, school pins, diplomas, caps & gowns etc). Your height will be measured for your gown when you pay the $75 fee in room 130. (DM –May 3)
GRADE 12 STUDENTS ATTENDING CARLETON UNIVERSITY NEXT YEAR IN THE BA PROGRAM: ArtsOne is a specialized program at Carleton that offers students a chance to cluster courses together by a common theme. OFFICER’S NOTES – News and Information from our School Resource Officer
GET TO KNOW YOUR SRO… The School Resource Officer Program has been in effect in Ottawa Schools for over 17 years and was established for officers to provide support for school staff, students and parents. SRO’s may be involved in delivering lectures on various topics as well as dealing with incidents which take place at school during school hours or those that have an effect on the overall school environment. When an SRO becomes involved in dealing with an incident it may result in a conversation, mediation or a referral to an intervention or diversion program, or a charge. The School Resource Officer mandate is to build healthy, trusting relationships with youth of all ages by becoming a familiar presence in their schools.
FREE MENTAL HEALTH INFO EVENING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 17: In partnership with the Youth Services Bureau and Le Centre Psychosocial, Ottawa Public Health is providing Parent Information Sessions on Mental Health throughout the community. A public health nurse will provide information about healthy adolescent development, warning signs of mental health problems and give practical advice to parents around communication, role modeling and resolving conflicts.
