clip_image008POETRY CONTEST: Calling all poets.  April is poetry month! Take part in the TLC poetry contest.  Poems must be original and can be any length and in any poetic style. Submit your poem at the TLC by Monday, April 23. One entry per student.    Prizes will be awarded in each panel. (CHV –Apr 23)

HUNTSMAN BIOLOGY FIELD TRIP PARTICIPANTS: Quick meeting at lunch in room 202 this Friday April 20 concerning fundraising change in plans. Come right at the beginning of lunch. (SS –Apr 20)

clip_image014H.S. REACH FOR THE TOP PLAYOFFS: The first round of the playoffs start this Monday April 23 with the Raging Rhinoceroses battling the underdog Flying Taco Muppet Riderz. Then, on Wednesday April 25, the top ranked Pierre Bouchard Experience will be taking on the humble Jai Ho. All the games start at 11:40 in room 307. Spectators welcome. (JS –Apr 23)

clip_image016GUITAR SHOWCASE: There will be a guitar show on Friday, April 20 during high school lunch in the Learning Commons. Bring your lunch, sit back, and enjoy music performed by some of M.T's talented musicians. (AC –Apr 20)

clip_image020BLOOD DONOR CLINIC: The annual blood donor clinic will be running at MT on Friday May 4th. Grade 11 & 12 homeroom teachers have been given information about the clinic. Students may sign up through their homeroom teacher (minimum age is 17y). Please see Mrs McLaughlin in room 130 if you do not have a homeroom but are interested in donating blood. (DM –May 3)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Year End Dance. Friday, June 1st from 5pm to 9pm at St. Luke Elementary School. Volunteers are expected to show up at 4:30pm to help with set-up. Please see Mrs. Rundquist in Room 308 at our school for further information. (KW –Apr 20)

clip_image030CN CYCLE FOR CHEO: Volunteer opportunities abound!  Contact Mary Hawkeye at 613 738-4279, volunteers@cncycle.ca.  The CN Cycle for CHEO is a fun, non-competitive event that offers a wide range of cycling and walking routes for people of all ages and abilities. All events begin and end at the Canadian War Museum with post-event activities taking place on the adjacent grounds at LeBreton Flats.  Please join us on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 and help the staff at CHEO.  Volunteer positions include bike parking assistant, bus supervisor, children's play area attendant, coffee service volunteers, food bbq, parking garage door attendant, registration assistant/ set up, rest stop volunteer, site clean up assistant, tear down volunteer, water assistant. 1) OTTAWA CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 25th. Pre-register from May 1st up until June 22nd, 2012 in Student Services. After June 22nd, registration takes place at summer school locations on  Tuesday, July 3rd, 9am to 2pm.

2) OTTAWA CARLETON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD. SUMMER SCHOOL dates are from July 4th to July 27th. Registration May 1st - June 8th. Daytime registration is from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Albert Street Education Centre, 440 Albert Street. Evening registration at the high school of your course choice; May 15th (6pm to 7:30pm) at Sir Robert Borden and Longfields Davidson Heights Secondary School;  Final Registration for Make-Up courses only is Wed June 27, 9:00am - 4:30pm or Thurs June 28, 9:00 - 7:00pm at 440 Albert Street (JH –Jun 8)

clip_image038GRADE 12 STUDENTS: Looking to finish community service hours with a lunchtime/after-school activity here at Mother Teresa High School? The Destination Employability Pathways (DEP) team is looking for students to help make jewellery to raise money for women’s charities. We will start with earrings and will make as many as possible so that we will be ready to sell them next Fall. Please see Mrs. O’Sullivan or Mrs. Rennick in room 320 to sign up for certain dates. We will select 2 lunchtimes each week and one after-school session each week. Our first day will be Friday April 27 at lunch in the Coop office (room 320). (MO –Apr 26)

clip_image040GRADUATION INFO:  The MT Graduation Ceremony for the class of 2012 will be held at Mother Teresa on Thursday June 28 at 1:00 pm. Each student will be given 2 tickets for guests. Students will be able to request extra tickets starting in May and will be informed whether they will get extra tickets, in early June. (JH –Apr 27)

clip_image042THE MOTHER TERESA SCHOOL LETTER: Each year at the Graduation Mass School Letters are awarded to a number of grade 12 students. The application is due to Student Services no later than noon on Tuesday May 1. Criteria and the application can be found on the Student Services website at ss.mths.ca  under Grade 12 Information. (JH –May 1)

OFFICER’S NOTES – News and Information from our School Resource Officer

GET TO KNOW YOUR SRO… The School Resource Officer Program has been in effect in Ottawa Schools for over 17 years and was established for officers to provide support for school staff, students and parents. SRO’s may be involved in delivering lectures on various topics as well as dealing with incidents which take place at school during school hours or those that have an effect on the overall school environment. When an SRO becomes involved in dealing with an incident it may result in a conversation, mediation or a referral to an intervention or diversion program, or a charge. The School Resource Officer mandate is to build healthy, trusting relationships with youth of all ages by becoming a familiar presence in their schools.

FREE MENTAL HEALTH INFO EVENING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGED 10 TO 17: In partnership with the Youth Services Bureau and Le Centre Psychosocial, Ottawa Public Health is providing Parent Information Sessions on Mental Health throughout the community. A public health nurse will provide information about healthy adolescent development, warning signs of mental health problems and give practical advice to parents around communication, role modeling and resolving conflicts. What:  A fund raiser that supports programs for Children  living with cancer

When: Thursday April 26 during both lunch periods. *Pre registration is a must either on-line or in the Atrium on April 17, 18, 19

Where: MTHS Atrium

Who: Teams of six.  Are you on a sports team or in a club? Why not put a team of six together or more teams of six and challenge other clubs or   sports teams!

Each team needs to collect pledges of $300 (that's $50 each).  All proceeds go directly to  providing services for kids with cancer and beyond! (survivorship)

Why: Because our school cares!  Because we can!
