clip_image006OUTSTANDING ITEMS AND FEES!  A table will be set up in the atrium each morning this week, for all those students with outstanding textbooks, library books, library fines, or other fees/fines owing.  The table will be in the atrium from 8:15 until the warning bell, for students to return any outstanding items.  New Semester 2 textbooks and report cards WILL BE HELD BACK until all outstanding items are cleared by the student. GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM: Attention all 7/8 girls.  Any 7/8 girl interested in trying out for the 7/8 girls basketball team are to sign up outside of Mr. Quinn's office by this Friday February 10th(TQ – Feb 10)

clip_image014RELAY SKATE CHALLENGE: Attention all grade 7/8 students.  Are you a fast skater, like skating on the canal, and enjoy competing against other schools?   If you answered YES, then this activity is for you.  Be a part of the first annual OCSB Intermediate Relay Skate Challenge on the Canal next Wednesday February 15

·          See Mr. Quinn if you are interested in this fun filled day on the Canal.  Mr. Quinn will be taking 20 participants to this event (10 girls and 10 boys), so don't hesitate to see him if you are interested, as spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.  There are only 3 requirements to participate in this event.  One...you need skates....Two...you need a helmet......and Three...you must be able to skate fast, or relatively fast!!!!  Please see me in person, AS YOU MAY NOT SIGN YOUR FRIENDS UP.  The deadline to register with Mr. Quinn is this Friday February 10th.

·          **NEW** Any student who recently signed up for the Winterfest Canal Relay Race are to show up this Friday February 10th with their helmet and skates at the beginning of lunch in front of Mr. Quinn's phys. ed. office.  We will be having a time trial on the outdoor rink to determine who the top 10 girl and top 10 boy skaters are.  Please be prompt, as time is short.  You must be at this event to qualify for next Wednesday's event.  Please inform Mr. Quinn if you cannot attend this time trial. HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

clip_image018ATTENTION – CHANGES TO ACCESS TO THE 3RD FLOOR: Students will no longer be allowed to eat lunch and wander the 3rd floor hallway during lunch time.  Students who are meeting with teachers during lunch will still be allowed to work in the classrooms.  Students with lockers on the 3rd floor, must get all of their belongings at the beginning of lunch, as they will no longer have access to their lockers during lunch. ROYGBIV will meet on Thursday in the chapel at lunch time.  Everyone must attend this important meeting. (MD –Feb 9)

M.T.S.A.I.D:  There will be an important MTSAID meeting at the beginning of lunch in room 326 on Thursday. (MK –Feb 9)

clip_image020SPIRIT RALLY!!:  We will be holding our first spirit rally of the year on Thursday, February 9th during period 4.  Each grade is asked to wear different colours to show their school spirit.  Grade 12 is BLACK, Grade 11 is WHITE, Grade 10 is RED and Grade 9 is BLUE.  Show your Titan spirit and be ready to have fun and recognize the amazing accomplishments of Mother Teresa students!! clip_image022HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITIVE REACH FOR THE TOP TEAM: For all the students who signed up for the Inter-school Reach for the Top team, there will be a meeting at the beginning of lunch in room 307 on Friday February 10th. The meeting is mandatory and will begin promptly at 11:35. (JS –Feb 10)

MANGA CLUB:  Manga Club will resume meetings this Friday at lunch in Rm 138. (JS –Feb 10)

clip_image024OSCAR NIGHT 2012:  Oscar Night tickets will be sold in the atrium at lunch beginning Wednesday, February 8th.  Tickets are $10 each.  Guests are welcomed, and guest tickets must be purchased at the same time as the MT student (last day for guest tickets is Friday). There will also be an opportunity to win VIP All-Access Passes.  See the ticket table for details. We must limit the number of attendees, so make sure to get your ticket early to avoid disappointment! (NR –Feb 10)

S.A.A.E (Students Against the Axis of Evil) are meeting on Friday during senior lunch in the chapel.  Everyone please show up on time! (MD –Feb 10)

ATTENTION ALL DEBATE CLUB MEMBERS: Next week's meeting has been moved to Monday February 13th 3:00-4:00pm. Additionally, members planning on participating in the upcoming regional tournament are holding an informal meeting in the library on Thursday February 9th during lunch. See Mme. clip_image032VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER: ANY grade 9-12 girl interested in playing for the Mother Teresa High School Varsity Girls Soccer Team  are ask to practice with the team on the following dates... January, 26th, February 1st, 8th, 16th and 23rd. clip_image036NIGHT SCHOOL - WINTER 2012 (FEBRUARY 21ST TO MAY 30TH) from the Ottawa-Carleton Public School Board. Registration during the day is from Monday, January 23rd to Tuesday, February 14th at 440 Albert Street from 9:00 am to 3:30pm.  Evening registration is at the high school of your course’s choice (Adult High School or Merivale HS) on Monday, February 13th (6pm-7:30pm) and Tuesday, February 14th (6pm-7:30pm). Early registration is recommended as space is limited.  Registration forms are available in Student Services. These forms require a signature from a parent/guardian, the student and a counsellor from our school.  Once the form is completed, the original is returned to the student to take to the registration site of his/her choice for processing. ARE YOU LOOKING TO EARN COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?  You can volunteer at the CEFO musical, "Cinderella".  February 16-19 and February 23-25.  Opportunities exist for working backstage crew, or front of house selling programs, ushering, greeting, working with the choirs, selling at the canteen. VOLUNTEER OTTAWA PRESENTS:  Get off your Apathy - youth engagement conference.  Ten organizations will be present to inspire and inform you about how you can take action on issues that are important to you.  This is an all day, free conference, open to youth aged 14 - 24, consisting of three workshops of your choice and much more.  Circle this date on your calendar:  Thursday, February 16th.  Sign in begins at 9:15 am and the day wraps up at 3:50pm at the Ottawa Arts Court.  To register visit:  www.volunteerottawa.ca/youth.  For more information email Damien Martin @ youth@volunteerottawa.ca. clip_image038CAMP LAU-REN: A children's residential summer camp located on the shores of the Ottawa River, 10km west of Deep River is currently looking for applicants for employment for the summer of 2012.  Positions to be filled include head cook, assistant cook, counsellor, caretaker, and waterfront staff.  Application forms for 2012 are available at www.lau-ren.com  See more info in Student Services. clip_image040IT'S HERE!  DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM REGISTRATION FORM!  Visit your Student Services Office for registration forms. Registration runs from January 16th - February 17th.  In-class lessons will be Wednesdays at Mother Teresa High School for 8 weeks starting February 29th from 3:15pm - 6:00pm.  Students must bring a copy (front and back) of their G1 to the first calss, plus a copy of the MTO Driver's Handbook.  This Driver's Ed program combines in-class, at-home and in-car instruction.  Successful completion of this program allows a reduction of the G1 license driving period and a possible insurance discount (check with your insurance company). clip_image042VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  The Volunteer Resources Department at the Queensway Carleton Hospital is looking for students to join their 2012 summer program which runs July and August.  Get your community service hours! Students are required to attend a Volunteer Information Session to obtain an application package and learn about the program. If the student is interested in applying they will receive an application package which must be completed and submitted to the Volunteer Resources Office no later than April 30, 2012.  Students need to be 15 years of age by December 31st 2012 and have completed grade 9 by this summer.  Information Session Dates are: January 31st @ 6pm, February 17th @ 6pm, February 21st @ 6pm, March 6th @ 6pm, March 13th @ 2pm, March 15th @ 2pm and March 19th @ 6pm.  Students may sign up on-line at www.qch.on.ca using the "volunteer" tab on the left or phone the office at 613-721-4709.  See Student Services for more information. clip_image048GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by Friday May 11th, 2012.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 11, 2012.

On Friday, February 17th, the School of Mathematics and Statistics will be hosting the Fourth Annual Mathematics Day; a one day event for senior high school students who want to know more about the power of mathematics and statistics. Registration is free of charge, and lunch and snacks will be provided.  Student participants will also be entered into a draw for prizes, including a $250 gift card from Best Buy.  Please register online no later than February 13, 2012.  See poster in Student Services for more information.
