7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
CONGRATULATIONS! On Tuesday February 21st the grade 7/8 badminton team competed in the West Division tournament at St. Joseph's Catholic High School. Mother Teresa's grade 7/8's dominated the tournament winning the grade 7 girls singles, grade 8 girls doubles, grade 7 boys doubles, grade 8 boys doubles and grade 8 mixed doubles competitions. Mother Teresa finished in first place with 41 points over 22 other teams. Our winning teams advanced to the City Wide Finals at Ashbury on Friday February 24th. Our grade 8 boys doubles team of Colman Chan and Kevin Bui, beat a strong Ashbury team and our grade 8 mixed doubles team of Elsie Ao and Feng Du, easily beat Notre Dame to win their divisions. Congratulations to all of the players. Mrs. Jewitt and Mme Kinloch were so impressed with the skill level, respect and sportsmanship demonstrated by all of the players. (JK –Mar 1)
GIRLS HOCKEY: All 7/8 girls who signed up for hockey, are asked to meet Mr Pelletier in room 340 at lunch on Thursday. It will be a brief meeting so bring your lunch and coats to go outside. (MP –Mar 1)
DANCE CLUB DATE CHANGE: A warm reminder that the 7/8 Dance Club for next week has been changed to MONDAY MARCH 5, from 3-4pm due to a scheduled staff meeting! I apologize for the inconvenience! The 7/8 Dance Club will resume on Tuesdays from 3-4 as usually starting after the March Break! (CD –Mar 5)
STRATFORD TRIP: Students in grade 8 who are interested in going to Stratford next fall are asked to see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 either before or after school on Tuesday, March 6. (JS –Mar 6)

STRATFORD 2012: If any students in grades 8-11 are interested in going on a trip to Stratford, Ontario in the fall of 2012, please see Mrs. Simpson on Tuesday, March 6 in Rm 138 at lunch. Students in grade 8 can see Mrs. Simpson after school. Plays have not been chosen yet, so get in on the decision-making process! (JS –Mar 6)
VARSITY GIRLS FUTSAL: Members of the Mother Teresa Varsity Girls Futsal Team are reminded of the following practice dates... March 6th & 20th. Please be dressed and ready to practice from 3-4:30pm in the wood floor gym. If you are unable to attend or have any questions, please see Ms. McSwiggan. THE POWER OF MOVEMENT 2012: Canada's largest yoga fundraiser in support of Arthritis Research, is looking for volunteers and/or teams to participate in an event which takes place Sunday March 4. For more information how to get involved see Mr. Hallarn in Student Services. (JH –Mar 2)
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: www.volunteerottawa.ca/youth is a new website geared towards students volunteering in the Ottawa area and accumulating their 40 hours. Click the GO! Volunteer tab to search for Volunteer opportunities. There are numerous volunteer opportunities during the school year. At times, there are too many to post in the written announcements. We ask that you make it a habit to stop in to Student Services and check out what is available. (JH –Mar 2)
FORENSIC SCIENCE CAMP: Trent University (campus in Peterborough) is having a Forensic Science Camp this summer for campers ages 13-17 with a keen interest in science. Campers will hear first-hand from practitioners in fields such as Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Forensic Entomology, Osteology/Anthropology, Wildlife Genetics, DNA Forensics… For online registration and more information visit forensiccamp.nrdpfc.ca. JOB FAIR: The Kanaa Employment Resource Centre is hosting a student job fair for ACE OF BLADES landscaping company to be held on Saturday March 3rd 2012 from 1pm to 4pm. The job fair will be held at our centre that is located at 145 Roland Michener Drive in the Kanata Centrum. Students must call to register at (613) 591-0667 as spaces are limited. PROM COMMITTEE MEETING: There will be a Prom Committee meeting for any grads who are interested in helping pick a theme for prom. If you are interested, please come to room 309 at lunch on Thursday, March 1st. (NR –Mar 1)
· PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance. The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by Friday May 11th, 2012.
- GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 11, 2012.
