Collection for the annual canned food drive will run from Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011 until Friday, April 1st. Our school goal is to raise 7500 canned goods by having each student bring in at least 5 cans. Friendly challenges between homerooms are also encouraged! Any homeroom wishing to make a challenge may write it up and place it in the SUGGESTION BOX in the front office. Homerooms will be notified within the day. Donations will be going to the Shepherds of Good Hope, and prizes will be awarded to the homerooms that collect the greatest number of cans per student. LEND A HAND, GIVE SOME CANS! (NR –Apr 1)

  • Say it Out Loud: Submissions for March's dialogue or monologue writing contest (500 words) will be accepted until Monday, April 4th (Rm 138). 

  • Write the Wrong: Maclean's Magazine is hosting an essay contest around the topic -- What is the single largest problem that we face today and what do youth need to do to fix it?  Please see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 for all the details. Essay judges are Canadian news celebrities.  The winning essay will be published and the winning author in 2010 won a Blackberry Smartphone.  Who knows how fabulous the prize is this year?  (JS –Apr 1)

ATTENTION FRENCH IMMERSION GRADE 11 AND 12 STUDENTS: There will be an important meeting during lunch on Monday April 4th in room 314 regarding the Ottawa and Carleton Universities French competition. Over 300 volunteers help to make the Festival a success in the following areas: pre-event and post-even set up, silent auction, main tent, docks and staging, team services, site safety/maintenance, children's area, media tent, VIP area, welcoming crew, alternates/floaters, stage/entertainment.   Interested?  Visit their website at http://www.dragonboat.net and fill out the online application.  Volunteers receive training and orientation, meal vouchers, water, parking passes, a volunteer T-shirt, a volunteer handbook, and an invite to the volunteer party.  Questions?  Email: volunteer@dragonboat.net. LEAD. CHANGE. HELP.  A Youth Leadership Opportunity. Volunteer Ottawa is looking for volunteers (aged 16-24) to be part of a Youth Leadership Team.  The team will meet monthly. clip_image037GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by May 13th, 2011.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 10th, 2011.

Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Apr 1)

clip_image039GRAD FEES DUE: Graduates are reminded to bring a $75 cheque made payable to "Mother Teresa High School" to room 132 by April 12th for your commencement fees.  You will be measured for your gown at this time. (DM –Apr 12)

clip_image041GRADUATION CEREMONY: The Grad Ceremony will be held Wednesday June 29th  at 1:00pm at Mother Teresa HS. Each graduate will be given 2 tickets for their guests. Students that require more than 2 tickets must request the number of extra tickets by signing up in Student Services between Monday May 2nd and Friday May 6th. Signing up does not guarantee you will receive the number requested. Students should drop by Student Services the following week to find out how many extra tickets they will receive. (JH –May 6)

clip_image024ELEMENTARY BASKETBALL REFEREES NEEDED: Referees are needed to assist with the Elementary Basketball tournaments taking place at St. Andrew Elementary on Wednesday, April 13th (girls tournament) and Tuesday, April 19th (boys tournament).  Four (4) referees are required for each day, from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm.
