7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

AMBASSADORS: There will be an Ambassador meeting Wednesday, January 5 during lunch in the drama room (Rm. 220). (MP –Jan 5)

7/8 INTRAMURAL DODGEBALL: The 7/8 Intramural Dodgeball Playoff schedule is on the PE board. Please check to see if your team plays. (TF –Jan 5)

GRADE 7 SOCIAL NETWORK PRESENTATION: The grade 7s will be having a social network presentation on Wed. Jan 5th in the multi-purpose room.

LEGION CONTEST WINNERS: Would all winners of the Legion Poster and poetry contest, please come to see Mrs. B in room 306 regarding the awards ceremony this weekend. (JB –Jan 6)

ATTENTION 7/8 BOYS AND GIRLS INTERESTED IN PLAYING TCHOUKBALL: Tryouts for the CO-ED Tchoukball team will begin next week. Sign up outside Room 240 and stay tuned for specific tryout details. See Mr. MacCuaig if you have any questions. (MM –Jan 7)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

MATH ENRICHMENT: High School Math Enrichment sessions will take place today during lunch in the regular classrooms. (TS –Jan 5)

REACH FOR THE TOP: The tournament resumes today with Five Aces seeking to destroy The Mans Club. The next game is tomorrow (Thursday) with Uberspam Grappling Black, Brown, and Yellow For intellectual superiority. The postponed game between Team World Domination and The PB. Experience will be played on Wednesday, January 12. The games begin at 11:35 in room 307. BE THERE ON TIME! Spectators are welcome. (JS –Jan 5)

INTRAMURALS: High School intramural Floor Hockey will begin this week -- Schedule will be up on Wednesday - Games Start Thursday. Team captains are expected to go over rules with their teams in advance of their first game. Rules will be posted on Wednesday as well. (DP –Jan 5)

MANGA CLUB: Manga club will meet on Wednesday this week at lunch in rm 138. (JS –Jan 5)

DESI GROUP: The DESI Group is meeting on Wednesday this week in the chapel. All members please attend at the beginning of lunch. This is a crucial meeting to plan the DESI Day in February. (MD –Jan 5)

INDOOR GIRLS SOCCER: Any high school girls who are interested in playing in an indoor soccer tournament, are asked to please attend a mandatory meeting on Thursday January 6^th, at 11:30 in room 212. (SM –Jan 6)

ALPINE SKI TEAM: Could all members of the Alpine Ski Team please see Mrs. Brady in room 201 by Wed. Jan. 5 so that the order for the Alpine team wear can be sent? Also, be sure to be at the school promptly at 7 a.m. on Friday for the bus for Mt. Cascades. (AB –Jan 6)

STRATFORD 2011: Students who are interested in plays and musicals and want to go on a school field trip to Stratford in October are asked to attend an information meeting on Friday, January 7 at lunch in Rm 138. If you can't make the meeting but want to come on the trip, please speak to Mrs. Simpson sometime this week. (JS –Jan 7)

SAY IT OUT LOUD WRITING CONTEST: December short stories must be handed in by Friday this week to be eligible for the December contest. Please give them to Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138. January's competition is post-card fiction. Write a short story in 150 words or less! Submissions are due at the end of the month. (JS –Jan 7)

ATTENTION ALL SEMESTER 1 CO-OP STUDENTS: Please see your Co-Op teacher this week to pick up an employer thank you gift and card. (MO –Jan 7)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Nepean Raiders Hockey Tournament. If you are looking to fill your volunteer hours, you can help out at the Nepean Raiders Hockey tournament on Jan 14-16th. Please see Mrs. Parker in room 308 for more information. (KP –Jan 7)

STUDENT SERVICES

NIGHT SCHOOL – WINTER 2011: February 22nd to June 1st - from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Registration during the day from Monday, January 24 to Tuesday, February 15th at 440 Albert Street, Ottawa from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Evening registration is at the high school of your choice (Adult High School or Merivale High School) on Monday, February 14th (6pm - 7:30pm) and Tuesday, February 15th (6pm - 7:30pm). Registration deadline is February 15th. Registration forms are available in Student Services and must be approved by your counsellor and also signed by you and your parents.

Make-up courses are offered at Merivale HS. Make-up Chemistry (SCH4U), English (ENG4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) and Advanced Functions (MHF4U) will be offered for students who were not successful in obtaining these credits or who passed but want to improve their marks. Students considering a make-up course should have a final mark of 35% or more. Students should have taken the course within the last year and been in regular attendance until the end of the course. In order to meet the minimum hours required these courses will run from February 28th to April 27th. (KW –Jan 21)

PROM COMMITTEE: There will be an important prom meeting on Friday Jan 7th at 11:35 in room 202. We will be planning the matchmaker and cake auction activities. Hope to see you all there! (KP –Jan 7)
