7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
ATTENTION 7/8 BOYS AND GIRLS INTERESTED IN PLAYING TCHOUKBALL: Tryouts for the CO-ED Tchoukball team will begin next week. Sign up outside Room 240 and stay tuned for specific tryout details. See Mr. MacCuaig if you have any questions. (MM –Jan 7)
HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
STRATFORD 2011: Students who are interested in plays and musicals and want to go on a school field trip to Stratford in October are asked to attend an information meeting on Friday, January 7 at lunch in Rm 138. If you can't make the meeting but want to come on the trip, please speak to Mrs. Simpson sometime this week. (JS –Jan 7)
SAY IT OUT LOUD WRITING CONTEST: December short stories must be handed in by Friday this week to be eligible for the December contest. Please give them to Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138. January's competition is post-card fiction. Write a short story in 150 words or less! Submissions are due at the end of the month. (JS –Jan 7)
ATTENTION ALL SEMESTER 1 CO-OP STUDENTS: Please see your Co-Op teacher this week to pick up an employer thank you gift and card. (MO –Jan 7)
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Nepean Raiders Hockey Tournament. If you are looking to fill your volunteer hours, you can help out at the Nepean Raiders Hockey tournament on Jan 14-16th. Please see Mrs. Parker in room 308 for more information. (KP –Jan 7)
DESI: All participants must attend a crucial planning meeting on Monday January 10 at lunch. Bring your lunch. All students who plan to be involved in the DESI DAY must attend this meeting. (MD –Jan 10)

STUDENT SERVICES
NIGHT SCHOOL – WINTER 2011: February 22nd to June 1st - from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Registration during the day from Monday, January 24 to Tuesday, February 15th at 440 Albert Street, Ottawa from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Evening registration is at the high school of your choice (Adult High School or Merivale High School) on Monday, February 14th (6pm - 7:30pm) and Tuesday, February 15th (6pm - 7:30pm). Registration deadline is February 15th. Registration forms are available in Student Services and must be approved by your counsellor and also signed by you and your parents.
- Make-up courses are offered at Merivale HS. Make-up Chemistry (SCH4U), English (ENG4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) and Advanced Functions (MHF4U) will be offered for students who were not successful in obtaining these credits or who passed but want to improve their marks. Students considering a make-up course should have a final mark of 35% or more. Students should have taken the course within the last year and been in regular attendance until the end of the course. In order to meet the minimum hours required these courses will run from February 28th to April 27th. (KW –Jan 21)

VOLUNTEER HOURS OPPORTUNITY FROM VICTORIA QUILTS CANADA: Two representatives will be coming to Mother Teresa High School on Monday, January 17th, at 3:30pm in the library to show anyone (students and staff) who is interested in learning about the quilting process and willing to work on quilts. As you may know, this non-profit organization’s goal is to make quilts to give to people with cancer in Canada. The hope is to form a group to meet once a week after school to work on these quilts. High school students can claim their hours as community service hours. For more information, please see Mrs. Watkinson in Student Services. (KW –Jan 17)

PROM COMMITTEE: There will be an important prom meeting on Friday Jan 7th at 11:35 in room 202. We will be planning the matchmaker and cake auction activities. Hope to see you all there! (KP –Jan 7)
GRAD PHOTOS: A reminder to those grads who have appointments on Monday, January 10th. Please bring your session/sitting fee at the time of your appointment. If you are only requesting a yearbook photo, you do not need to bring any money as a yearbook photo is free of charge. (KW –Jan 10)
UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES: A reminder to grade 12 students that the University application deadline is Wed January 12. The College deadline is Tuesday Feb 1. Any questions or concerns please see your Guidance Counsellor. (JH – Jan 12)
