WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

MT LIVE: Attention all Titans! MT Live auditions are coming up! The talent show will be held on Friday December 3rd. Auditions run this Thursday and Friday (November 18th and 19th) and next Monday and Tuesday (November 22nd and 23rd) in the multipurpose room. Signup sheets are posted outside of room 305 and are filling up fast. Talents will be judged on creativity, skill and preparation. (EB –Nov 23)

YOGA: drop-in yoga classes, continue for the month of November. Classes take place from 3:05-4:05 pm on Monday afternoons in the dance studio. Cost is $5.00 per class. Beginners are welcome! (JR –Nov 29)

YEARBOOKS! Yearbooks go on sale today, Monday November 22^nd, priced at $45. The early bird special will be from 22^nd November – 3^rd December when the yearbook will be just $40. You can also personalize your yearbook with your name for just $5. Order forms should be distributed during homeroom on November 22^nd. You need to bring cash or a cheque with your order form to the school atrium during any lunchtime until December 17^th. Cheques should be made payable to Mother Teresa High School and the student’s name, grade and the word yearbook written in the memo portion. Remember pre-ordering is the only way to guarantee you get a yearbook and orders will not be accepted after the 17^th of December. (AP –Nov 30)

SKI CLUB: This year, we return to Camp Fortune for 6 sessions (Jan.12, Feb. 2,9,16,23 and March 2) Forms are available from Mr. Nearing (rm.111) and Ms. Stewart (rm.130). Completed forms are due back Friday Dec. 3rd. Space is limited so don't miss out. (KN –Dec 3)

ACTS (A Chance to Serve) meet in the chapel Tuesday during Jr. lunch. New members welcome. (MD –Nov 23)

READ-A-THON: Books, magazines, laptops, prizes, author Max Turner, food.......Read for an entire day in the library! It is not too late to sign up for the Read-a-Thon. All pledge money should be returned by Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Pick up pledge sheets in the library. On Wednesday morning, students taking part in the read-a-thon are to go to homeroom for attendance and then come down to the library after morning announcements. (CHV –Nov 23)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

DESI AND MSA MEETINGS: The DESI Group will meet in the CHAPEL on Thursday at lunch time. The MSA is meeting on Friday in the Chapel at lunchtime. (MD –Nov 26)

YOUTH MINISTRY: All Youth Ministry members are to gather in the Library Tuesday during 2nd period. Names will be posted on First Class for teachers. (MD –Nov 23)

HS MANGA: There will be a lunch meeting on Tuesday, November 23, in Rm 138. (JS –Nov 23)

WEIGHT ROOM: Students who are interested in working out or learning how to work out, are invited to the weight room after school. The gym is open from 3:00-4:00, Monday – Thursday. Come check it out. (GG –Nov 23)

ALPINE SKI TEAM: Do you love to ski, love speed and want to try a new challenge? Join the Titan's Alpine Ski Team. We have three full-day practices at Mt. Ste. Marie and Mt. Cascades before the two day race in February. Sign up outside room 201 or see Mrs. Brady/Mrs. Earle/Mr. Steinke. We will be starting dryland practices Monday November 29. (AB –Nov 26)

SAY IT OUT LOUD WRITING CONTEST: November competition is to write a sonnet. Final day to submit it to Rm 138 is November 30. October winner will be announced at the end of November. Please see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 with questions. (JS –Nov 29)

STUDENT SERVICES

QUILTS ANYONE? Are you interested in engaging in conversations, building relationships, being productive and doing work for a great cause? Look no further! Victoria's Quilts Canada is looking to set up a youth program at Mother Teresa High School. Students will meet after school in the library to tie quilts, preparing them for the final stage of binding. High School students have the opportunity to earn community service hours. All interested staff and students can sign up in Student Services with Mrs. Watkinson. (KW –Nov 23)

COUNSELLING RESOURCES AND SERVICES: On the Student Services Website, found at www.mths.ca - Departments - Student Services - General Info and Documents there are links to Counselling Services available as well as a link to Dr. Michael Cheng's website which is an excellent resource for information related to many issues facing adolescents including: Anxiety & Phobias, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Bullying, Depression, Stress, Panic Attacks, etc. (JH –Nov 23)

SHAD VALLEY EXPERIENCE: An opportunity for a grade 10,11 and 12 students to experience university life at a Canadian University for 4 weeks during the summer. Shad Valley is a well recognized program for high achievers that focusses on Science, Engineering, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Leadership. PROM COMMITTEE: There will be an important prom meeting Friday Nov 26th at 11:25 in Room 202. All volunteers helping with the grad video or the bake sale are asked to attend. See you there! (KP –Nov 26)

UNIVERSITY APPLICATION PINS HAVE ARRIVED: University bound students received their application passwords on Friday Nov 19. Students that were absent or who did not receive their envelope are asked to drop by Student Services. (JH –Nov 26)

ATTENTION ALL GRADE 12 STUDENTS – GRAD PHOTOS: Edge Imaging will be back December 13th, 14th, and 15th in our atrium. Please sign up for your appointment at www.bookmygrad.ca. Our school code is MTH. If you don't already have their leaflet, please pick one up in Student Services. All students must have their pictures taken for yearbook purposes. (KW –Nov 26)

GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES: In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June. As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa:

· PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance. The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by May 13^th, 2011.

GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 10, 2011.

Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Nov 26)

ATTENTION UNIVERSITY BOUND STUDENTS: On Wednesday, December 8th, 2010, the University of Ottawa will host an information evening for prospective university students and their parents. This is an ideal opportunity to find out about our admission process, scholarships and bursaries. English presentation is at 7:30pm, French presentation is at 6 pm and the Information Fair is from 5pm to 9pm at Jock Turcot University Centre (85 University Street).
