WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

clip_image002“GET CAUGHT READING BY THE PRINCIPAL” throughout the month of November. Attention all staff and students! Please make sure to have reading material available to you for SIREN. SIREN stands for Stop Immediately and Read Everything Now. This silent reading time should occur at the beginning of EACH period and should last for 10 minutes. The library has SIREN boxes available for classes that need reading materials.  Mrs. McDonald will award prizes to lucky participants through her “Get Caught Reading by the Principal” campaign. Now is the time to get ready to read. Look for READ promotional posters featuring MT "celebrities" to start appearing this week. (MO –Nov 19)

MT LIVE: Attention all Titans!  MT Live auditions are coming up! The talent show will be held on Friday December 3rd.  Auditions run this Thursday and Friday (November 18th and 19th) and next Monday and Tuesday (November 22nd and 23rd) in the multipurpose room.  Sign up sheets are posted outside of room 305 and are filling up fast.  Talents will be judged on creativity, skill and preparation. YOGA: drop-in yoga classes, continue for the month of November.  Classes take place from 3:05-4:05 pm on  Monday afternoons in the dance studio.  Cost is $5.00 per class. Beginners are welcome! (JR –Nov 29)

YEARBOOKS! Yearbooks go on sale today, Thursday the 18th November, priced at $45.  The early bird special will be from 18th November - 2nd December when the yearbook will be just $40.  You can also personalize your yearbook with your name for just $5. Order forms should be distributed during homeroom this morning. You need to bring cash or a cheque with your order form to the school atrium during any lunchtime until December 16th. Cheques should be made payable to Mother Teresa High School and the student’s name, grade and the word yearbook written in the memo portion. Remember pre-ordering is the only way to guarantee you get a yearbook and orders will not be accepted after the 16th of December. (AP –Nov 30)

clip_image006READ-A-THON: Books, magazines, laptops, prizes, author Max Turner, food.......Read for an entire day in the library!  It is not too late to sign up for the Read-a-Thon. All pledge money should be returned by Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Pick up pledge sheets in the library. (CHV –Nov 23)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: There will be apractice this Friday after school, Gym C and more practices next week on Wed and Friday. Please be prepared with proper shoes and shin pads. (SS –Nov 19)

INTRAMURALS:  Schlockey Round Robin takes place this Wednesday and Friday. All those who signed up should be ready to compete on those days during lunch. Games begin at 11:45. (DP –Nov 19)

See Mr. Prigent in the Woodfloor Gym for a Team Sign Up sheet - Remember: at least one male and one female on each team and on the floor at all times. Cost is $1 per player. CAPPIES:  All Cappies please come to an after-school meeting in Rm 138 on Monday, November 22.  We will be looking at your recent reviews.  Please see Mrs. Simpson if you cannot attend. (JS –Nov 22)

clip_image012SAY IT OUT LOUD WRITING CONTEST: November competition is to write a sonnet.  Final day to submit it to Rm 138 is November 30.  October winner will be announced at the end of November.  Please see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 with questions. (JS –Nov 29)

·         selling and delivering daffodils during the Daffodil Days

Are you interested in engaging in conversations, building relationships, being productive and doing work for a great cause?  Look no further!  Victoria's Quilts Canada is looking to set up a youth program at Mother Teresa High School.  Students will meet after school in the library to tie quilts, preparing them for the final stage of binding.  High School students have the opportunity to earn community service hours.  All interested staff and students can sign up in Student Services with Mrs. Watkinson. COUNSELLING RESOURCES AND SERVICES: On the Student Services Website, found at www.mths.ca - Departments - Student Services - General Info and Documents there are links to Counselling Services available as well as a link to Dr. Michael Cheng's website which is an excellent resource for information related to many issues facing adolescents including: Anxiety & Phobias, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Bullying, Depression, Stress, Panic Attacks, etc. (JH –Nov 23)

SHAD VALLEY EXPERIENCE: An opportunity for a grade 10,11 and 12 students to experience university life at a Canadian University for 4 weeks during the summer. Shad Valley is a well recognized program for high achievers that focusses on Science, Engineering, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Leadership. clip_image024ATTENTION ALL GRADE 12 STUDENTS – GRAD PHOTOS: Edge Imaging will be back December 13th, 14th, and 15th in our atrium. Please sign up for your appointment at www.bookmygrad.ca.  Our school code is MTH.  If you don't already have their leaflet, please pick one up in Student Services.  All students must have their pictures taken for yearbook purposes.  (KW –Nov 19)

UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS: The passwords and PINs have not yet arrived. Grade 12 students should be doing their research. Please visit the Student Services Website for relevant information. clip_image026GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES:  In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June.  As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa: 

·          PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance.  The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by May 13th, 2011.

  • GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 10, 2011.

Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Nov 26)

ATTENTION UNIVERSITY BOUND STUDENTS:  On Wednesday, December 8th, 2010, the University of Ottawa will host an information evening for prospective university students and their parents.  This is an ideal opportunity to find out about our admission process, scholarships and bursaries.  English presentation is at 7:30pm, French presentation is at 6 pm and the Information Fair is from 5pm to 9pm at Jock Turcot University Centre (85 University Street).  Ottawa U will be broadcasting the presentations live on the Internet also.  Event and webcast details can be found in the Events section of their website at:  uOttawa.ca/admission.
