WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

clip_image002LOCKS FOR LOCKERS: Students are reminded that only combination locks are acceptable for use at Mother Teresa High School.  If you change your lock during the course of this school year, please notify the main office of your new combination.  In addition, students are to occupy only the locker assigned to them by their homeroom teacher.  Unauthorized occupation of another locker will result in your lock being cut and all contents of the locker removed. (KL –Sep 9)clip_image004ATTENTION ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS!  SIREN (Stop Immediately and Read Everything Now) continues at Mother Teresa H.S. for the 2010-2011 school year.  This silent reading time should occur at the beginning of EACH period and should last for 10 minutes. Please make sure to have reading material available to you for SIREN.  Teachers may ask students to read for pleasure or to read course-related work.  The library has SIREN boxes available for classes that need reading materials. Throughout the semester, our Principal, Mrs. McDonald will award prizes to lucky participants through her “Get Caught Reading by the Principal” campaign. Now is the time to get ready to read. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

7/8 GIRLS SOCCER TRYOUTS: Any 7/8 girls interested in trying out for the girls soccer team, please sign up in front of the 7 and 8 phys. ed. offices (this is by the cafeteria). There will be a Grade 7 girls tryout Thursday after school and one for the Grade 8 girls Friday after school. Any questions or concerns please see Mr. Nicoletti in the gym. (CN –Sep 10)

7/8 BOYS SOCCER: Any grade 7/8 boys interested in trying out for the boys soccer team, must sign up outside of Room 240 by Friday, September 10th.  Grade 7's will try out on Monday, Sept 13 from 3 - 4:30.  Grade 8's will try out on Tuesday, Sept 14th from 3 -4:30.  The team will be made and will practice on Wed and Thursday after school.  (MM –Sep 10)

7/8 GRADE LEVEL ASSEMBLIES:  7 & 8 grade level assemblies will take place as follows:

  • Monday Sept 13th – Thursday Sept 16th, Periods 1 – 6, Classroom Visits (NM –Sep 16)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

HIGH SCHOOL GRADE LEVEL ASSEMBLIES:  High school grade level assemblies will take place as follows:

  • Grade 12 ~ Wednesday Sept. 8, 9am – 10am, in the library

  • Grade 9 & 10 ~ Thursday Sept 9th – Friday Sept 10th, Period One, Classroom visits.

  • Grade 11 ~ Friday Sept. 10th , Period 4, in the Multipurpose Room (NM –Sep 10)

VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL: An important meeting will be held Thursday September 9 after school in room 137 for any girls interested in trying out for the Varsity Girls' basketball team.  Try-outs start early next week.  Please see Mrs. Rose if you have any questions. (MR –Sep 9)

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TRYOUTS: There is a mandatory football tryout for all interested high school students Wednesday and Thursday at 3:00 p.m on the field behind the school. Phys. Ed. clothing and cleats are recommended. (AC –Sep 9)

STAND UP TO BULLYING SQUAD: The Stand up to Bullying Squad will meet briefly in the Career Centre located beside Student Services on Thursday, Sept 9th.  New members are welcome. (TC – Sep 9)

clip_image006HIGH SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB: The first high school environmental club meeting will be this Thursday, September 9th in room 102 at 11:40.  New members are welcome. (SR –Sep 9)

VARSITY TENNIS TEAM: There will be a meeting Friday, September 10 in Room 311 at the start of HS lunch for any students interested in joining the Tennis team.  If you have any questions please see Mr. Banks, Mr. Miller, or Mr. Belisle. (MB –Sep 10)

INTRAMURALS: Any student in grades 9-12, interested in helping out with intramurals semester 1 during lunch are asked to see Mr. Prigent in Room 117.  Community Service Hours are available each lunch period. (DP –Sep 10)

INTRAMURAL DODGEBALL: Start thinking about getting your teams together for MT's first Intramural Activity. Teams consist of at least one male and one female and a total of 8 players.  Forms will be available Friday outside of Room 117. Cost is $1/player. (DP –Sep 10)

clip_image008THE BIG PULL: Mother Teresa Titans are the defending champions in the High School Division. This Tug of War competition takes place Saturday September 25 from 9 am to 3 pm. The cost is $25 and includes a t-shirt and lunch and fundraises for the Ottawa Mission.  10 Hours of Community Service are available for those wishing to sign up.  Grade 11 and 12 students only. HS GIRLS VARSITY HOCKEY: Try-outs will begin this Friday, Sept 10th, and Monday Sept. 13th at Walter Baker A from 3 – 5 pm.  Try-out schedules will be handed out at the rink on Friday.  All girls, especially our Grade 9 girls from our intermediate team last year, are welcome to attend.  Full equipment is needed.  If you have any questions, please see Mr. Gervasi in Room 133.  (MG –Sep 13)

9 RUN RUN: Mother Teresa's Emergency Response Focus Program is Supporting this Charity Run in Stittsville (from Sacred Heart High School) on Saturday October 23, 2010. STRATFORD 2010: Please see Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 for information regarding the October Stratford trip.  Deadline is September 15. (JH – Sep 15)

CAPPIES: Do you like writing?  Do you like school plays?  There will be a Cappies information meeting in Rm 138 at lunch on Thursday, September 16.  Find out how to have your student review published in the Ottawa Citizen! (JS –Sep 16)

HS CROSS COUNTRY: Sign-up for the High School Cross Country team will take place at lunch, all week in room 305. We accept runners at all levels, so throw on a pair of running shoes and get running! Running will take place Thursday and Friday after school. There is also a mandatory meeting for all those interested in Cross Country on Monday September 13 at lunch in room 305.  Practice schedules and contract forms will be handed out. (MG –Sep 17)

SAY IT OUT LOUD: MT's writing contest is accepting opinion essays for the month of September.  Submissions are due to Rm 138 by September 30.  See Mrs. Simpson for details. (JS –Sep 17)

clip_image012TIMETABLE REPLACEMENTS: Students who have lost their timetable/schedule can have a second copy printed in Student Services at a cost of $0.50. (KW –Sep 10)

COURSE CHANGES: Students requiring course changes are asked to drop by Student Services in between classes or at lunch to sign the form. Do not sit and wait in Student Services as you will not be seen. (JH –Sep 10)

NIGHT SCHOOL: The Catholic Board is not running any night school courses this term. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has its Fall Night School Program from Sept 20th to Dec 15th, with a limited number of courses. Registration starts on Sept 7, and the deadline is Wednesday, Sept 15th. Registrations during the day are done at Continuing Education, 440 Albert Street, Tuesday, Sept 7th to Wednesday, Sept 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. OR evening at the school offering the course choice (Adult High School or Merivale High School) on Tuesday, Sept 14th (6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) or Wednesday, Sept 15th (6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.). Registration forms are available in Student Services and must be signed by one of our counsellors before you register with the Public Board. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY – ELECTION HELP: Get some serious volunteer hours in with the Step-Up-Campaign.  Joe King is running in Barrhaven (Ward 3).  Help is needed in the following areas:  Barrhaven Day (Oct 3), ongoing website maintenance, sign assembly, posting of signs etc..  Contact the team at 613-825-9497, joe@joeking.ca, or though the website www.joeking.ca.  (KW –Sep 17)

EMERGENCY INFO SHEETS: Staff Emergency Contact information sheets can be found in your mailbox.  Please fill out and return to Sharleen in the main office as soon as possible. It is VERY important we have the most current information for you. (SD –Sep 9)

VOICEMAIL: Every staff member is provided with a Voicemail box to collect phone messages.  If you have not already done so, please set up your voicemail so that it will properly reflect as your mailbox. (Instructions can be found in your mailbox).  Please make sure to check your voicemail box often, to pick up those messages, so you may respond to them in a timely manner.  If you have any questions, please contact the main office for help.
